Well I briefly owned a 80GB MGS4 PS3 before I got rid of it, and now I picked up a new Slim. I already own both a 360 and a Wii, so I figured I might as well complete my set.

Anyways, out of the PS3 exclusive shooters (don't mention multiplatform because I probably already have them on 360), what's good? What's best out of Socom Confrontation, Killzone 2, or Resistance 2? Anything better than these?

Killzone 2 is probably the best. Resistance 1 & 2 are both fun but are about your normal FPS. Killzone 2 is pretty typical too but it just does everything perfect.

Well I have a bunch of shooters, but I typically stick to playing Halo 3 and Gears 2. I have Modern Warfare 2 on preorder, so I'll be playing that when it comes out.

I loved Resistance 2 until KZ2 came out. Though some will disagree, I think KZ2 is amazing.

Kz2 hands down or resistance 1/2 are good, I'd recommend against getting Socom although some may like it the majority of people Ive know that have played it dislike it, I'd totally regret purchasing it myself were it not for the headset included in the bundle.

Does Uncharted count? :p

I would have to say Killzone 2. Personally I wasn't impressed at all with either of the Resistance games, to me they are pretty generic and overrated.

I'd have to say they are all competent, and I'll throw Warhawk in there too as it's still going strong.

My vote would be for Resistance 2 though.

Based on those I'd guess Killzone is the safe bet. SOCOM is good too, though, if you like a shooter that's a bit less arcadey and more team oriented.

you better save up your money for uncharted 2. if you have call of duty 4 or halo 3 killzone 2 is not worth buying. its and overrated ps3 exclusive. ive tried it so i warn you.
uncharted 2 is really awesome i tried the beta and its just the best ps3 exclusive(lbp also)

So would it be better to wait a bit until either Uncharted 2 or MAG comes out? I believe that MAG is actually being developed by Zipper (the original devs of Socom 1/2/3, which I enjoyed).

Halo 3 isn't worth buying. Call of Duty as a series is debatable, but Killzone 2 is the one that actually does stand out simply by being unique.

Killzone 2 is awesome, easily one of the best shooters this generation. If you're looking for something kind of Halo-ish, it's the one to get.

SOCOM is also super-hot if you like slower, tactical gameplay...don't let the haters misguide you. It's really addictive.

I'm also a big fan of Resistance, but R2 didn't have the staying power for me. Once KZ2 came out I pretty much stopped playing it. Still very good though.

I know, I'm not much help. But I would rank them KZ2 then R2, and SOCOM if that's your flavor.

At least silks gives reasons. Dont let the Socom haters put you off, the game is the best shooter out now on any system. Ive played them all and nothing comes close. You can get it with Headset for around $20 at Target

R2 was alright but the competitive MP is subpar. Killzone is average

Another for KZ2 here, the game is proably the best shooter this gen so far on any system. If you want a cheap get me over until MW check out Warhawk, its a blast to play and can be found for very cheap.

way to be a fanboy

I prefer R2 to KZ2 myself.

When KZ2 I thought it was better, but R2 is the game that had me going back to it. The online is just...better IMO. Also I hate that KZ2 doesn't have a party system...or at least it didn't last time I played it.

How is he being a fanboy?

Anyways, I'm not a huge fan of FPS games in general but Killzone 2 was amazing. It's one of my top 3 favorite games on the PS3. I haven't played Resistance 2 yet (I'm gonna start playing this weekend) but I played the first one, and since I'm assuming they're relatively similar, it's gonna be fun and intense but probably not on the same level as KZ2. I haven't played Socom but it's completely online (which I'm not a fan of) and I've heard most of the hardcore players (which are most of the people online) are douchebags.

Overall... I think that Killzone 2 is the best. It had a great single player campaign, and the online features are excellent. Setting up clans, scheduling fights, etc... top notch of any game. Its hard just to choose just one. R2 could have been number 1 because I enjoyed it the same. I didn't pick COD4 which was also great because the online system is terrib

The person who said "Killzone 2 > Resistance 2> STAY AWAY FROM SOCOM" hit the nail in the head. Socom is still broken (but playable now), but its incredibly unfriendly to new players and its PSN, so you won't be talking to anyone and be kicked from lobbies.

Killzone 2 is by far the best, its quite unique in its style of play, so if you expect Halo, Gears or CoD style of gameplay, think again, but its definitely worth it. Resistence is ok, but if your gonna play co-op (the best feature), you need buddies with mics, and as I said, the PSN is quiet town.

LOL Both of these idiots have no idea what they are talking about. Just because you cant get any kills doesn't mean Socom is broken.:roll::roll:

Your last sentence is totally asinine. WHat do you mean by "Its PSN"? You sir are ridiculous because EVERY PS3 GAME IS PSN!! "Wont be talking to anyone"--Have you ever even played Socom?? EVERY single person has a mic. IF you dont, you will most likely be kicked from the room. "Be kicked from lobbies"--Once again, another prime example of someone never playing socom but talking shit. YOU CANT EVEN BE KICKED FROM LOBBIES. Put the game in your disk drive, boot it up, find a room, and tell me if you can get booted from the lobby. Matter of fact look at all the Mic icons too. Guaranteed every player on both sides has one.

You ask for the best shooter, and no other game comes close to Socom in terms of Gunplay. How many gunfights do you really get in KZ2 maybe 2or3 a game? I get in 2 or 3 gunfights Per Round on Socom. Where is the recoil in KZ2? There is barely none. Get your gun game up and stop playing baby boy shooters

That damn hostage escort in SOCOM has to be one of the best multiplayer modes ever! SOCOM got lost in the shuffle for me.. I never had that much interest in playing, I only bought it for headset and I have to admit that I haven't given the game a fair shake. (in terms of play time) I did enjoy what I played thus far, it was difficult, but definitely satisfying.

Hahaha, this guy attacked me when all I talked about was what I heard. Judging from this guy's response though, he backs up what I heard about most Socom players being douchebags.
So many people praising KZ2 but I've never seen any of them at the game nights
pretty harsh call out.
So many people praising KZ2 but I've never seen any of them at the game nights
I platinumed it awhile ago and moved on to other games.

Out of the three I would say KZ2, if you game at night there's only about one or two active rooms. Which is pretty sad, it's a good game but it's pretty much dead. I'm currently renting that game, the lack of online multiplayer is holding me back from buying it. If you're buying it for the multiplayer you may be disappointed.

I also have socom confrontation and R2, these rooms seem to always have people. I would suggest playing Resistance 1 over Resistance 2 first. It has a very fun campaign + multiplayer (the rooms may be a bit dead too, but it's cheap now!)

What's with the new socom patch?
I heard the game sucks
And I have to chime in with warhawk. It's unique and addicting.
KZ2 other than that.

So have you actually played SOCOM? Or are you just going off of hearsay?
So have you actually played SOCOM? Or are you just going off of hearsay?
Well, considering I said "what I heard," I think it's pretty obvious I'm going off of hearsay.

Killzone 2 easily-
Resistance 2 is a broken piece of garbage!
Had it been a multi-platform title R2 would have been ripped to pieces.

I have not played the newest SOCOM so I can't say, but I have always felt the franchise paled in comparison to the Clancy tactical shooters.

Resistance 2 online Co-op is where it's at. For online competitive experience, I'd say Killzone. SOCOM isn't for everyone IMO. If you're looking for respawn type matches, go with KZ. If you're looking for tatical matches (not sure if this has been mentioned but respawn rooms in SOCOM are unranked), go with SOCOM.

I just jumped aboard the PS3 bandwagon with the slim last week.

So far I like the system alot, with one exception.

I simply cannot play a FPS with the dualshock controller.

I downloaded Resistence 2 and Killzone 2, so I could experience PS3 only shooters and see if they were worth a purchase.

I find these games to be unplayable on Sony's controller.

I know some of this is me, and I need to get used to it, just like I got used to the 360 controller after years of mouse + kb.

But compared to the 360 controller, the DS3 just feels light and cheap, like a toy.

Not trying to hate cos as I said, I love the PS3 so far for racing games and PSN games. It's just shooters I have an issue with.

I completely agree that the DS3 is outdated. I love my 360 controller and before that I used a PS2 DS2 for years...but man, I need to find a controller that is shaped and functions like a 360 controller...just for the PS3.

Yes sir, sixaxis and DS3 are fail.
I do like the low set analogs for racing but, even casual games like LBP are annoying with the dated and uncomfortable analog sticks' layout. I wish Sony would quit wasting time with motion controllers and create a new controller design.

Back on topic: get KZ2 and pass on the rest.

Oh yeah... sixaxis... I dl'd the Uncharted demo and using sixaxis to cross the log/bridge annoyed the shit out of me. I stopped and just stood on the log and tried out the sixaxis controls. I could not figure out how my tilting the controller affected the onscreen leaning of the character. This forced sixaxis control frustrated the hell out of me.

To try and get back on topic. Both Resistence 2 and Killzone 2 looked good, but I'd pay money to be able to use a 360 pad on the PS3.

only one I have played is Killzone 2 and I enjoy that game a lot. The single player was a little typical and straight-foward, and I also was not a fan of the ending but still worth a play through. The graphics are fantastic and I like the more "realistic" feel of KZ2 over games like Halo, etc.

The multiplayer i feel is really on point. You have a different set of game modes and maps and the ranking system makes you learn a little of the different weapons and devices as you go along. The squad option is really cool when trying to coordinate within your side on objectives and just staying alive.

I know Call of Duty has way more players, but KZ2 still has a strong community and you can pickup a game anytime of day.
