Which kind of gamer are you?

CAGiversary!
In my mind there's two schools of gamers: those who, like me, focus on one game like the Terminator until it's done and those who have "now playing" lists that are 15-20 games long. I can't understand the latter type (I've been known to take an action game break if I find myself getting burnt out by an 80 hour long RPG, but they're always games I've finished before, I won't jump into a different storyline in the middle of another one) but I'm interested to see if there's a majority on one side or the other. Which are you?

Well, I have always been the former and wouldn't even break from RPG's, but since I started college last year I have been transitioning towards the latter. I play 2 sports and work so there isn't much time to play games. Seeing as I still buy the same # of games, I now find myself starting more games and finishing less :( Guess I'm turning into a slut...

Edit...voted for the scary stalker type cuz its my true nature

I prefer to only play one game at a time for the same reason, I don't want to get the storylines confused. Sometimes I play two, one of them is usually a gameboy game.

I used to only play one game at a time, but college has also hit me, so I am scattered around. It is rare for me to actually get to sit down and beat a game without playing some other game during the process.

What I do is stick to one game for a week or two, but then I usually switch to another.

I was hooked on FF2 for a while. Then I switched to playing Crimson Skies for a month or two. Now, I'm playing Banjo Kazooie - great, great game!

Ever finish em?

I'm in the middle...right now FFX-2 has been in my PS2 for the past 12 gaming hours, excepting a brief 45-min co-op jaunt down Norrath Lane with the spouse...But before that, I was hopping between FFX, Arc the Lad, Ratchet and Clank, Dynasty Tactics 2, and occassionally a game or two of Summer Heat Beach Volleyball.
When I started buying games for the PS2, I told myself I would not let myself do what I did with the PS1--play a game for a couple weeks, then play something else and never finish it. There's only like 6 PS1 games that I finished.
But it depends on what mood I'm in, and how long I have to play. I might put something else in tonight just for a break from FFX2, maybe SImpsons Hit and Run, Arc the Lad, or maybe even GTA III [which I'm stuck on--another problem.]
In general, though, I'm a dilettante, which sounds much better than your poll options.

Same here, college kinda makes you a gaming whore. I have so many RPGs/Action games that I haven't started, because I don't want to get too hooked on them. So I play my sports games the most and switch between them. Plus they only require maybe an hour of time to complete a game.

Depends on the game...If it's a meaty RPG I'll generally stick to it and not play much else. But in between said games I hop from action game to action game like a cat in heat for a week or two...So I guess I'm a mixture of the two.
mmm gaming stds. Are those what metroids are?
Also, Nintendo Gamecrabs and Sega Genesis Warts.

I don't like to look at it like I am a gaming whore. I like say I multi task I don't think it's hard to keep the stories straight. I don't have 15-20 games started, but I do have about 5 going right now, not counting sports games cause those are pick up and play for 30 minutes type games. Most games you can't do that with. I try not to have more than one going at a time from each major category.

The problem I have is that my gaming skill might not be as profound as alot of you so I will get to mission that I get stuck on and if I try it multiple times with little progress, I get frustrated and put it aside for a little whiile and start something else. Then I come back to it once I've cooled off. That's why I like having multiple games going at once.

I kind of have a main game and one or two that I will fall back on if I get bored or feel like something different.

Main: Jak II
Secondary: Final Fantasy X (story is burned in my mind, I just need to level up and go beat Sin), Genma Onimusha (stuck on a boss) and Mega Man Zero (incredibly difficult, im on the final Neo Arcadia missions)

lately (mostly because of this site), I've been playing 2-3 games at a time. Now that I have a break from school, I finally beat Splinter Cell: PT. Now I WILL beat Ninja Gaiden, damn it! Also want to get through Freedom Fighters and Panzer Dragoon.

I usually play 2-4 games at one time. I never really just play one unless I am completely addicted to it, but that usually doesn't last more than a few days before I want to dabble in something else to mix it up again. And I almost never get into 5+ at once. Just too many plots/control schemes to keep straight for me.

I probably try to keep it at 2 story type games at one time and throw in a sports or other non-story game for spice. (Like Midway Arcade, or Madden)

I do try to stay disciplined and finish the few games I'm currently playing before moving onto the next one.

Woo man Genma Onimusha is a difficult game, IMO. I had to drop down to Easy difficulty and then I was able to complete it. (Don't know what difficulty you are trying, but unfortunately you have to start over to change difficulty levels.)

Which boss are you stuck at?

Well, I used to have this fixation on one game at a time...but then I started developing a huge backlog due to college work (over 30 excellent games)...so I've been flying around from game to game. However, now I'm out to sell a lot of my games...I have to study for the GRE General test, and the GRE Math and GRE Physics subject tests...as well as a possible girlfriend looming in my sights, gaming seems so secondary now...but I'm about to take up learning/re-learning French, learning Korean (my nationality), and music arrangement, so I got enough other interests to keep me preoccupied...at least until Nintendo DS comes out this fall.

Back in the NES days I'd concentrate on one game at a time. Now I have more cheapass games than I can handle, but I try to keep it to about 2 or 3 games max, including GBA excluding multiplayer games.

Right now I'm playing Ninja Gaiden, and Advance Wars 2 when I don't have access to my XBox.

it's very hard to stay with one game and beat it before some other awesome game comes out and you just have to give it a shot. Before you know it, the original game is 5 games back.

Well actually it was the final boss, and I beat him just the other day. Normal difficulty, too. Woo for me.

I kind of go back and forth between the two. I do have quite a few games that I haven't completed or barely played, and that's mostly due to me finding them cheap and not letting the deal pass by and end up kicking myself in the ass later on for not jumping on it. But there are games that do hold onto my attention and play to the end. Burnout 2 and Project Gotham 2 are ones that I've poured over 40 hours into, each. I've finished games such as Metroid Prime, Star Fox Adventures, Silent Hill & SH2, and Metal Gear Solid Substance (which suprised me, since I didn't like the first MGS all that much), from beginning to end without taking much of a break. It just depends on how much I want to play the game each time I go to play it. Then there's the fact that when I buy new games, I tend to forget about the ones I already have. Plus, there's work and other things in life that need to be taken care of, so some of my games get tossed into the pile, hopefully to be played later.

I'm definately in the first category. I mainly play RGP's so I like to focus on one at a time, otherwise I forget where I am in the games and get them mixed up. I usually work on 1 console or PC RPG at a time and then Play various other games on my GBA. Right now I'm playing Kingdom Hearts on PS2 and Fire Emblem on GBA. It's not working too well though So I put Fire Emblem on hold until I'm Finished with Kingdom Hearts.
