Which MP3 player should I get ... Creative Zen Vision, iPod Classic, or iPod Touch?

The money isnt a concern. I just want something with a decent amount of storage (the 16gb touch is the lowest I'd go). Also important is the fact that it play video. This is where the Creative Zen Vision would seem to excel as its most versatile in the video formats it can handle. But I'm sorta leaning towards an iPod as I've had many mp3 players now and none of them are reliable or live up to my standards. I have rarely heard a negative comment about the iPods so I'm thinking they may be the way to go for me. Anyone have any advice?

iPod, definitely. I held out getting one because every rich kid on campus would flaunt theirs like it's some sort of status symbol. This was like four years ago. I caved 'cause my RioVolt mp3 cd player was too bulky and it was a pain in the but to burn CDs. So far, my fourth gen (last b&w one) has been very good to me and has not conked out. Not only that, but Apple makes some pretty reliable AND intuitive mp3 players that are seldom matched in user-friendliness. I can't comment on the newer video ones but I can vouch for the iPod as being the epitome of easy to use mp3 players.

Pictures or reading about the iPod touch do not do it justice, try to get your hands on one in person. I was able to look at the iPhone (same thing) for the first time in person today and within 10 seconds of handling it, going back to the iPod classic (or any other standard MP3 player) is like going back to black and white television.

I've also been going back and forth on getting the touch or the classic and read countless reviews on the touch but like I said, getting that hands on experience will really enhance your perspective. The thing is just awesome.

Edit - You also might want to look into the new Zune. It has a 3.2 inch screen (touch has a 3.5 inch screen) if videos are important since it comes with 80 GB of space. I'm also waiting on some reviews before jumping on the touch bandwagon.

Classics are good for cost/gigabyte and size, but the Vision Ms are better for video formats, have a built in radio, and are much less limited than the ipods, in terms of what you can do with the interface.

I have an iPod classic and some shuffles...I have played around with the Touch and think it is pretty cool but way to low on storage...

Here's a dark horse: Microsoft Zune! Please hear me out...You can get a 1st gen 30Gb, update the firmware to newest version (2.4) and it is GREAT. Built real solid, can wirelessly sync music/podcast/video/photos with pc via 802.11(no need to dock), the display is not as nice as the Touch BUT is significantly better than the classic.

And now it supports Podcasts very well (better than iTunes IMHO) There is an 80Gb out too...There have been some pretty low prices for the 30Gb...I got mine from Woot.com for $135 about two months ago. Buy.com has had them on and off sale for the past few weeks. Woot had the brown colored one for $99 a few weeks ago and refurbed black or white for $85...Great values...

Like I said, I have a 60Gb Ipod video too but since the latest firmware upgrade, i am really really impressed with the Zune and will be using it more than my iPod...And I am not a Microsoft lover either...I use my Powerbook alot more than my Dell desktop and think Vista is total poopage....

Good luck and no matter what you settle on, don't forget to download the CAGcast!!!!!!!

I have an iPod Classic, and it has been nothing but trouble since I got it. I have read that a lot of people have had problems as well.

I love my Zen Vision M. Utterly flawless. What everyone fails to mention about it is the DRAG AND DROP ability of media files. Treat it like an external HD. Hook it up to any computer, drag whatever you want off it or onto it and keep on moving.

The zen is seriously badass. Plus it has the best output quality compared to the other mentioned MP3 players. But it only matters if you're a true audiophile.

To the people suggesting zune's, the reason I created this thread was because I just purchased a zune and the audio is not great. The background volume (guitars in music, or sound effects/music in movies) is far louder than the foreground volume (vocals in music or dialogue in movies). I just updated to the new 2.2 software and unfortunately it doesnt fix it but I do love the new menu systems and wireless syncing. Unfortunately I just cant get past the audio problem. I imagine this is probably an independent problem with just my zune but I just dont trust getting another one now.

I'd go with the iPod classic since you say storage space is a big factor for you.

Depending on how important video performance vs. player size is to you, you could look at something like the Cowon A2 or one of the Archos players.

But if you are going to be using it mostly for music and just want video as a once in a while thing, yeah I'd go with the classic.

iPod classic if the space is such a big deal to you, I would personally suggest the Zune for about $99. that is a phenomenal deal on a great product.

I would say if money is no object, get the Touch. Looks nice, and reviews have generally been positive, although the Zen's drop and drag feature seems like a winner to me. If you want to get rid of that zune, pm me a price or maybe I can trade you something for it.:)
