My dad wants a Star Wars game for Christmas for the PS2. He really loves games like Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, the Legacy of Kain series and stuff like that. So no FPS games please. Mostly he likes third person action with puzzle elements and lots of freedom. Plus he said he wanted some flying too (since it is Star Wars and all). I don't know the SW games much at all, so I figured all you people out there could help me. ^_^

Battlefront 2 sounds like a pretty solid choice.. lots of freedom, but no puzzles there. Lego Star Wars would be fun, but it's fairly short, easy, and has no freedom.

Just avoid Revenge of the Sith.

Well there's Star Wars: Clone Wars which is primarily vehicular combat, with a few flying missions a a couple on foot mission.

There's Star Wars: Bounty Hunter which is a third person shooter focused on single player, you play as Jango Fett. I've only played it a bit but you have a variety of gadgets and such to help you solve some puzzles as you progress through the story mode.

Then there's Star Wars: Battlefront 2 , which basically takes the clone wars game, and switches the emphasis from vehicles to foot soldiers, 3rd person shooting combat. Single player is fairly good, but multiplayer is where it's at. Most of the maps have a few vehicles you can drive in. Some maps like Hoth have flying vehicles, then in Battlefront 2 they added Space battles which is a neat addition over Battlefront 1.

Truth be told, there isn't really a star wars game on the PS2 which fits completely within those guidelines, follow the 2 links and watch the gamespot video reviews to see if either of those sound like games he would enjoy.

either clone wars or bounty hunter would be good. battlefront 2 is kinda twichy even of the pc which i have right now. i really hate the changes they made from the original....guns now overheat within 3 seconds of firing!!?!? if you had an xbox i would say get knights of the old republic ...that game shines on the xbox as well as the pc (which i have)

pick him up a cheap ass game cube, they have some nice star wars games. rogue squadron, woooot!

i second that. Too bad factor 5 never released RS 2 and 3 for the PC even though they released RS1 for years ago.

they really need to relase the star wars trilogy arcade game on one of these systems..that game rocked in the arcade.... mame still has a long way to go before it becomes playable on a high end pc like mine.

Pick up Star Wars Starfighter and possibly Jedi Starfighter. They're pretty good SW space flight shooter games that do a good job of branching off from the prequels and being very fun.

Wow, you guys rock. Thanks for the help. It sounds like a battle between Bounty Hunter and Battlefront 2 right now, so I'll probably go check both of them out and see what comes of it. Our household has 2 GameCubes, but my dad's all about the PS2, but thanks for the 'Cube suggestions too.

Does the Bounty Hunter game have any space combat?

bounty hunter does NOT have any space combat. You jango fett pre-episode 2..and you got a bounty to collect.

battlefront 2 can fustrate you sometimes, and if you played the first one, expect only a few new level, rehash of the original bf 1 levels and jedi playable characters or heroes. Hero characters, mostly the force user ones are useless and seem to have a time limit on them so you dont dominate a level with the hero,bah...and the emperor playable chracter is a JOKE.

KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC I & II. They have everything you asked for: freedom, space fighting, puzzle solving. GEEZ......

The only problem with KOTOR is that they don't make a version for PS2, which is the system my dad owns and plays. How was the game for Clone Wars? Any good? (Though a friend basically told me Battlefront 2 was the best game, and seeing as most of you agree, I'll probably go for it.)

Clone wars is ok..bought it cheap at best buy for like 7 bucks on blackfriday of 2003 for the cube. It all depends, if he is into multiplayer mehem, go for battle front 2, if hes into playing the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, go with bounty hunter.

I think you mean the father of the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, though I guess technically he is both bounty hunters  damn you Lucas :bomb:

ok..now im gonna start a flame war here hehe :)

Jango HAS proven himself to be the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Yes his death was tragic, but he faught bravely to the end, unlike his clone son who became lunchmeat for a sand pit monster :p

i have bounty hunter and its fun but can be extremely frustrating at times u spend most of your time looking through a stupid scope looking for bountys instead of fighting

BATTLE FRONT II IS THE BEST STARWARS GAME EVER MADE

what?? are you drunk? BF2 is BF1 with a few new levels and a bit higher graphics, ai, and units. This all could have been done as an expansion. bah

I don't know about Battlefront. It's a FPS (with third person perspective). At least in the first one, it was all capture the flag type of gameplay and there were weak cutscenes to string all the battles together (poorly I might add).

I haven't played either of these two games but from your description it looks like Bounty Hunter or lego star wars would be the best option.

Best on PS2, probably. Ever made...probably not, I had a hell of a lot of fun with the Star Wars SNES platformers, Jedi Outcast is pretty good, the Kotor's, rogue squadrons, X-wing vs. Tie Figther...etc.
