The Journey for the Cure Foundation run by Tareq and Michaele Salahi spent more money on office supplies in 2008 than charitable donations according to documents the foundation filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia and obtained by CBS News.
...
The charity reported taking in $19,098.91 in donations in 2008 and giving $690 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and $20 to the US Navy Memorial Fund. But the foundation reported it spent $819 on office supplies.
In 2008, the foundation spent $7,200 for “professional fees”, $5,300 for “travel” and $5,823 on “Fundraising and Meals” according to records filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia. The couple’s non-profit also spent over $1200 on “bank fees” for their small charity.

Raised more then 19 grand and only $710 was given to charity. Lifestyles of the rich and shameless.

This is why I'd rather just give a buck to a hobo on the street. Or, this time of year, a sweater or jacket or blanket or something.

At least we've got Child's Play still.

Wonder which political party they affiliate themselves with...

I wonder how outraged people would be if they know how little of their donation to almost any other charity actually made it into the hands of the designated recipients.

Something is really shady here, even more shady then hinted in that first article. Here's more info on their take on the previous year, 2007

...So, the America's Polo Cup - it's is supposed to donate all of its funds to Journey for the Cure, which in turn donates to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
What apparently happened is that there was a lot of money raised by America's Polo Cup - more than half a million dollars, at least, in the 2007 event. And what was reported more than a year and a half later to the state of Virginia was that perhaps $15,000 was donated by Journey for the Cure to the multiple sclerosis and lymphoma societies. So, if you put on a half-million-dollar event to donate $15,000 to charity, that seems odd.

By my math that's 0.3% of the charity events revenue going directly to charity.

Yes, these people are idiots worthy of scorn. But the real inquisition should be how it was even possible they got in without being invited. They could easily have assassinated the president and vice president. One little vial of anthrax in the guy's pocket.

Yes, but that is a very fixable problem. I don't anticipate any more incidents similar to this one in Obama's tenure.

You do know that after Obama and Biden, the speaker of the House would become president?

Oh god we worked so hard to slap down Hillary and Sarah. It would be an awful day if all that were for naught and we ended up with a female president anyway. Despite being a loyal Democrat, I desperately hope they lose control of the house next year so that women will not be second in line to the Presidency, and also Democrats must lose badly for Obama to win a second term. It's the same strategy employed by Clinton and Reagan.

Er, you got me?

these people are trash and they are loving the publicity they are getting. This should just be a private matter that the secret service takes care of. That way I would never see a picture of those two douches.

They set up a charity, to raise money for one of their events, which in turn gives money to other charities? They are scammers or morons. The only reason it could exist is to create another layer to take money off of, through "expenses".

According to the right, the rich are the backbone of this great nation. We should just shut up and let them use the money however they want to.
