Just got back from walmart with 4 new elmos in hand. Am going to ebay 2 of them here in a minute. Hold onto the other 2 and see what happens.

Not sure if I should do a 1 day or 3 day auction though.

As soon as I heard the reports of people buyin em, I ran to Wal Mart and got the last two. I'm selling one and holding onto the other till close to christmas.

Although I see a couple of these upto $100 atm on ebay, the site is absolutely flooded with like over 600 of them, most don't have bids and I see many for like $40 BIN. Might be worth hanging on to them all till X-Mas IMO...

=)
Elmos? You mean those little kid toys?
Dude, I'm about a year older than you and I remember when the originals were hot shit. You seriously need to just stop posting...

The funny thing is that people buy these but just to resell them at a higher price.
well there are the people out there that really want them, for presents or to collect. In the big cities people are lining up outside of stores by the hundreds to buy them.

And ya I put 2 up on ebay. Will hold onto the other 2 until it's closer to christmas and the market isn't flooded.

if I sell one for $100 now, I can buy Okami and Samurai Warriors 2 :) If I sell my second one for 200-300 I can buy lots of Wii games or whatever
I have heard they may even reach up to $200-300 come christmas time.
Damn, and it's only $39.99.

I remember when they were hot shit... for little kids and the occasional girl.

Some reason I dont think they wil lbe going for $1000 this time around though. If you think about it though when then did was right around when the PS2 released, and with the PS3 around the corner maybe it will happen again.

It's not ok to hoard video games, but it's ok to hoard children's toys?

Awesome. Double standards on CAG for the win.

Well my Wal-Mart had a whole pallet of about 25-30. Being the money making SOB that I am I grabbed 5 of these. Thanks for the heads up Ryles!

I think this is code for "I went to Walmart and they were sold out already."

Nah, I had school all morning, and before that I was too busy at EB trading in some games. I could care less about some Elmo's... didn't even find out about it until I got home.

But you know if this was a thread on some rare video game, it would be 20 pages long and the community would be going apeshit.

Very true, that's why I never tell anyone when I hoard.

On the other hand....Elmos....I bought 12 of them. ;)

What concerns me is past Elmo toys like the Hokey Pokey one and maybe a few others broke very easily and did not work. In the event that some (more than a normal amount of any toy) are defective, I don't want to deal with chargebacks or having people saying it doesn't work and want to send it back or someone being dishonest and trying to scam with chargeback.

That's exactly why I'm not even considering buy a PS3 to sell as well. I don't want to risk losing $600 by getting scammed.

Umm, this is all media "hype" paid for by Mattel, owners of Fisher-Price. Most of the toy business is in bad shape, and Mattel needs this "excitement" to help pull up earnings for the year.

The original TME scarcity was the combination of saturation advertising, low production runs, and the emerging (at the time) internet creating rumors.

Eventually Fisher Price flooded the market with TME, so much so that TRU was giving them free with like a $50-100 purchase.

Will this new one ever go for as much as the original did back in the day? Maybe for the first week. But remember this, 10 years ago nobody heard of eBay. Expect a TON of these things to be returned on 12/19, the date most retailers' return period ends.

If there was such a "frenzy" for these things, why did I just see full endcap at the local KMart at lunch?

Ebay is flooded with them. Maybe i should buy one or two and wait til december to throw them on ebay. When is furby going to be a hot item again?
So when is the best time to unload these?
Probably closer to Black Friday...Walmart.com is now OOS and they're reporting sales of 5-6 units per minute in all thier stores.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jolanda Stewart said T.M.X. Elmo was selling at the rate of 5 to 6 units per minute in its stores.
"We've been extremely pleased with the customer response to Elmo," she said."Crowds were at Secaucus ( N.J.) Wal-Mart ready to pick up the the lil' guy early this morning and the response to the furry loveable guy was overwhelming. Our online pre-sales of Elmo have exceeded our sales forecast by 150 percent."
Toys "R" Us' flagship location in midtown Manhattan was already sold out of T.M.X. Elmo two hours after the store opened.
KB Toys' chief marketing officer, Ernie Speranza, told CNNMoney.com that sales of T.M.X. were surpassing sales expectations at the retailer's stores nationwide.
"We usually don't see this kind of hype for a new toy until mid-October when we're closer to the holiday season. It's great for the toy industry," Speranza said, adding that KB Toys opened an hour early to let shoppers buy their Elmo.

Thats a lot of hoarders!

Wait, what? How do we go through an Elmo craze AGAIN all these years later? It's fucking ELMO. Did people learn NOTHING from the tickle-me-Elmo fiasco?
Dude, I'm about a year older than you and I remember when the originals were hot shit. You seriously need to just stop posting...
Sorry, I am normaly not into ripping people off on Ebay right before X-mas for some talking shit doll. :p

I don't think eBay was around (or popular at least) during the last craze, was it?

Boo! Stop hoarding kid toys so you can make money! :shame:

Honestly, do it all you want with $10 clearance games or rare Atlus titles, but someone please think about the children!

(Actually, do whatever you want, I could care less)

Its times like this that I wish you had a uterus

Screw putting up A PS3 I'd make more putting up an Elmo that will be flooding the market in 2 years  I realize that every year this crap happens. We saw it begin with Cabbage patch and has continued with Furby, Original TME, etc. Sure some kids want them real bad, but it is mainly due to the overhyped publicity. When the first TME came out I was shocked, as usual the craze fades and 2 years later I scored a brand new one for around $10. Save your money people to by other things for your kids this holiday season and if they still want one next year you'll save $$$$.

Also what is so special about this new Elmo? Will he watch my kids, balance my checkbook or does his dumb ass just sit there and laugh at me?

Had to edit because I caught this on Amazon:

fucking Insane

I hope you hoarders lose your receipts and are stuck with these little bastards

It was around, though not nearly as popular.

Not sure if this is a compliment or... I actually don't know what to think.

Wow.. just wow.

I hope that Mattel floods the market with these things around Christmas so all of those FatWalleters who bought them and are saving them until Christmas time get the old screwgie.

I fail to see a difference between hoarding these and hoarding rare games. If anything, this is much worse because these are for little kids.

ditto.

why are people buying them from ebay already? can't they just wait for the next shipment to roll in?

That's just sad. They're infant/toddler toys. How any of you guys can buy these just for profit is a disgrace. Let the kids have them.
Are you kidding me? The Elmos again? Whats this, the 90's?
Yes, it is! Now where are the N64's i can hoard and sell for $400 a pop?!!

Yeah, but this isn't an Elmo forum. It's a video game forum. I bet if there actually was an Elmo forum, and you mentioned video game hoarding, nobody would care.
