Who else is insanely excited about the Wii Zapper?

This thing got me so pumped. I always have a blast playing light-gun games with my friends and family. Umbrella Chronicles and Ghost Squad are going to be AMAZING with the Wii Zapper. It even got me interested in playing Medal of Honor all over again.

This will be so much fun to play with my family and friends, taking turns blasting zombies.

I was excited, then disappointed, then excited again about this zapper. See when I first saw it I liked it. Then I saw how you had to press the front trigger with UC and I got disappointed. Then I heard that Ghost Squad has the C button as the trigger and I got excited again. I only hope that everyone follows Sega's lead in using the C or Z buttons as the main firing buttons.

Also, a lot of places are saying that UC sucks balls and is like a D effort from Capcom. Maybe it's because they don't like shooters, but a lot of people are saying it's mediocre. From the Video I saw it looks like RE3. Pretty sad.

Am I missing something? Isn't the Wii Zapper a plastic shell you just put the Wiimote and Nanchuk into? Why is there so much hype about it?
Am I missing something? Isn't the Wii Zapper a plastic shell you just put the Wiimote and Nanchuk into? Why is there so much hype about it?
Because shooting people with a gun > shooting people with a remote

And there isn't that much hype about it. There needs to be more so we can get all the HOTD games on Wii.

^ Pretty much. Shooting with a gun is more fun and more immersive than pointing the remote at the screen.

I've said it before, but I LOVE the final design of the Zapper. Just imagining holding it after watching the initial demo reel during the media briefing, then watching the show-floor demonstrations of it, it looks really comfortable, especially when imagining securing it towards his mid-torso region, rather than a traditional light gun feels when you'd be trying to actually point it directly at an object on the screen (since that 1:1 recognition obviously won't work with Wii).

I see. I disagree with the hype thing though. Many blogs and forums are talking about it, but I don't see the appeal in a plastic shell. Same thing with the Wii wheel.

I don't see how you people couldn't see the appeal in a plastic shell.

Why the hell would you want to hold a remote to the screen and shoot with it when you can hold a lightgun to the screen???

Also, as been mentioned, using the "B" button on the remote is a terrible idea. I shoot with my right hand, not my left.

Anybody know if there is a molded plastic trigger for the "C" button?

If it's packed in a game, count me in

If not, count me out (reminds me of the classic controller they are trying to sell..)
(since that 1:1 recognition obviously won't work with Wii).
I've read that's not true. Apparently, some upcoming games will "calibrate" the wiimote so as to make the zapper shell function exactly like a light gun -- shooting where you're pointing with no reticle on-screen.

How can you guys not be excited about the potential of the Wii Zapper + WiiFit pressure board implemented into game play such as: Metroid Prime 3, Time Crisis (and any light gun game), Resident Evil?

The possibilities of the immersiveness of this console are amazing. If we don't see this kind of stuff implemented into software for the Wii, lynch the developers.

I wonder how game play would be using the Zapper in a game like RE4. I know some parts would not work with the zapper, but I can imagine it would work really well especially in the little farming town at the beginning of the game.

The zapper is a novelty, just a shell that adds a couple grips. You could easily position your arms and have a free imaginary one. I'll gladly pay extra for an actual gun controller. I'm still buying a zapper since it comes with a game. I'll probably end up with two for multiplayer.

You obviously haven't seen all the Wii zapper videos.

LOL. Yeah, you go ahead and do that.

While I'm not sold on the zapper yet, have you used the Classic Controller? It's amazing. I highly recommend it for VC games.

It looks awkward and unnecessary to me. I'd rather just hold the wiimote and nunchuck in those positions without the accessory.

It'll be sweet if there are good games for it. RE:UC looked so slow in the video I saw. Ghost Squad looks like a half-ass port.

The best game for it will probably be whatever Nintendo packages with it.

If they release duck hunt either via VC or a pack in game I will buy the shell. Otherwise I will not buy it until Ghost Squad hits $20 (because I don't want to pay $50 for that). RE UC doesn't look as promising as I hoped but we will see.

Here is a vid of the zapper being correctly used for Ghost Squad (The second guy. The first guy holds it like he's never played a light gun game before). I think a lot of the negativity for the Zapper comes from the UC video and the way Capcom made little effort to set the gun up properly.

I'm gonna make me a custom stock so I can hold it to my shoulder.
Don't really care about the Zapper, but I just wanted to point out that the Zapper would not work with a good deal of games, Prime 3 included - you need to be able to move the nunchuk. That limits the Zapper to a great degree going forward.
I didn't mean that it will work with any specific game; what I do mean is that the possibilities for games such as those listed designed around the zapper + pressure board are amazingly immersive.

those two guys in that gametrailer.com videos dont look to excited plus it doesnt make the game anymore realistic. Looks like just a waste of cheap plastic to me
those two guys in that gametrailer.com videos dont look to excited
Why would they be?

When's the last time you saw someone demoing a game for their job laughing their ass off and having a blast?

I'll probably get one when it hits the shelves, but after watching that video I see what they were talking about over at gizmodo about the comfort of it. The two grip points definitely need to be farther apart

I'm not insanely excited, but I'm interested. You can't buy much with $20.00, even being a CAG. Getting some pack-in game, plus the Wii Zapper is a good deal to me.

I don't know why people are complaining since every other shell on the market is $20, doesn't bring a game and is of questionable quality.

I remember attending a game survery using a prototype of the wii zapper while playing a new metal of honor game. I suppose it is kinda cool, albeit when I think about it it just seems like a waste of money. I don't know anymore. I prefer the shotgun instead of this >_>

WTF? You can get a lot with $20. Most of the games I bought last generation cost me under $5, so I could get around 4 games for $20.

It's backwards as far as how you really hold a gun. If the trigger was on the back and I got to steady the front ala a shotgun I'd be more excited, but as is, it doesn't look very appealing to hold. But for $20 and a free novelty pack in game I'd be willing to give it a shot as long as the novelty game isn't complete garbage.

Good for you, I believe the average I spent on games last generation was around $15.00 - $20.00, and sometimes although rarely around $8.00 at clearances. The value of the Zapper is just going to differ based on the person, I personally think it's a terrific value for what we will supposedly get.
It looks very stupid.
qft.

Now if they made a real Wii Zapper a la the Time Crisis gun and not some lame cheapass slap-on bullshit then I'd be very excited.

Unfortuntately, this is Nintendo, not some wacky crazy alternate universe where they do stuff like that.

But man, that would be cool wouldn't it?

If we got a legit looking Guncon? Hell yeah, I'd buy one.

Link's Crossbow Training™
Format: Wii™
Launch Date: 11/19/07
ESRB: T (Teen): Fantasy Violence
Game Type: Shooting
Accessories: Wii Zapper™ – included (requires Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™)
Players: 1-4 (turn-based)
Developer: EAD

Link returns from The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess to pick up the Wii Zapper and take aim at a host of targets in this shooting-gallery-style game.

* Anyone can pick up the Wii Zapper and become a master marksman in the quick-play shooting galleries of Link's Crossbow Training. Dozens of fast-paced stages offer a wide variety of game play, from shooting stationary targets to defending a supply wagon from onrushing hordes of enemies. Multiplayer modes let players and their friends share a Wii Zapper to shoot for the high score.

* Link's Crossbow Training comes bundled with the Wii Zapper. After a few rounds of Link's Crossbow Training, players will be more than ready to pick up any of the future Wii Zapper titles, like Medal of Honor Heroes™ 2, Ghost Squad™ and Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles.

Using the Wii Zapper: The Wii Zapper requires the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, housing both in a comfortable and intuitive frame. The control stick on the Nunchuk controls player movement (on stages that allow player movement), while simply aiming the Wii Zapper moves the targeting reticule on the screen. Pulling the trigger fires Link's crossbow. By aiming off screen, players can turn Link to face in a new direction (again, on stages that allow this).

Link's Crossbow Training contains three basic game styles: target shooting, defender and ranger. There are 27 stages in total, and these categories represent only generally how each individual stage operates. Each stage's goal is to earn the highest score possible within the time limit. All rounds can be played with multiple players: Players pass the Wii Zapper around and then play one at a time and compete for the high score.

Target Shooting: In target-shooting rounds, players shoot bull's-eyes as they pop up on the screen. In early stages, targets are stationary. As the game difficulty increases in later levels, the targets move. Hitting the center of the bull's-eye nets more points, and hitting targets in succession without missing earns combo multipliers. Link can aim anywhere on the screen.

Defender: In defender rounds, players remain stationary but can look and aim in all directions - sometimes even in a full 360 degrees - by aiming off screen. Hordes of enemies assault Link, and he must fight them off. These battles have a great deal of variety, from fighting off skeletons in a desert to defending a wagon from boar-riding Bokoblins.

Ranger: In ranger rounds, players can move throughout the level using the control stick and aim anywhere they want by aiming the Wii Zapper wherever they want to look. In these missions, Link storms enemy encampments, fights his way through a forest and seeks out his foes while exploring the environments.

Dang, just saw the release date. Coming the week after Mario Galaxy, so I'll probably hold off on it.

They really should have put this out in Oct, I'd have bought it just to knock the dust off the Wii before Mario (now that I'm done with Metroid) and they could have double marketed it with the DS Zelda game coming out.

I havent heard much about the zapper just demos of it in action, but what are the details on it? Whens it due? Will it come supplied with a lame game or a great game?

I dig shooters and will be buying 2 total so to save on that I want to get the game that itll come with.

1) it comes with Link's Crossbow Training
2) sometime '07 (probably nov.)
3) :whistle2:s

Ahhh, I forgot about that game! I havent seen a thing on that. All I keep hearing about is Resident Evil UC or that Ghost Squad, I figured it would come with one of those. I thought the Zelda was going to be the first $20 game though, that price includes the zapper?

Yes, it includes the zapper.

Might I suggest Google or even Wikipedia to search on these matters before creating threads. There's even a Zapper thread in this forum about it.

Didnt see a thread on this, maybe I scrolled too fast.

While Im here, will the zapper be sold seperatley as well? How much?

Bump incase anyone has an answer for me, wiki and online sites didnt say. I need 2 guns and dont want to have to buy zelda twice!

since it's a first party accessory, i'd imagine you'll be able to buy it separately online from nintendo's store. that's what they've done with other things like this in the past (bongos, dance mats, etc).

it's not like guitar hero or DDR, where the accessories are third party and now unavailable to purchase alone.

but i'm curious to see if nintendo thinks they're including the game "for free" and will charge $20 for the zapper shell with or without the game. if so, they might not offer a non-game version on the site, as it's part of the package.
