I'm thinking that's what I have right now. One of my daughters ran a slight fever earlier this week, and now I feel like shit. I love the cold weather, can withstand some pretty good temps, but I'm freezing. I woke up this morning amazed that I could still breathe with the way my throat was swollen.

No real use calling the doctor, as I wouldn't get in until at least Monday. Any tips to feel better?

Like don't leave the house to play football, or don't leave the bed?

I first read this thread as 'Who has bad mono?' and thought, damn that's a pretty random question.

I had it a while back. You typically get tender lymph nodes on the sides of your neck and of course get really tired easily. If you have those symptoms you probably have it. I had both with mine. I'd go ahead and call your doc and set up an appointment. Best to get advice on what to do from a pro.

For me I was actually really relieved when I found out I had mono. All I knew was I walked up 4 flights of steps and felt like I was about to die. I literally had to slouch down on the ground for a few minutes to recover. (And this is something I had been doing pretty much every day for years with no problem.)

I got it in highschool. I missed a decent chunk of class and just layed on the couch all day the first week because I could barely move without getting light headed. Good times.....

As far as having to pee alot, no. I really didn't drink to much during the severity of it.

I just got over mono. It sucks ass. Sore throat, high fever, no energy for two or three weeks, loss of appetite. It's no fun :(

You could get lucky though. Strep throat and mono both present in the same way. Pus on tonsils sore throat and all the other fun stuff. But strep is bacterial and can be easily treated with penicillin where as mono is viral and you have to just let it run its course.

If you have a major sore throat and happen to have some apple-cider vinegar lying around (particular flavor of vinegar, I usually buy mine from Trader Joes, not sure if you have one where you are) then gargle a mouthful for about 30 seconds, spit, and then pour yourself a little more (maybe two shots worth) and drink it straight down.

WARNING: This stuff is SO STRONG and will most likely make you gag/feel nautious/tear up. Iit's highly acidic and will both kill the bacteria in the back of your throat (the gargle) and work the pH levels in your body.

I googled upon this when I had strep throat and could not so much as drink water without intense pain. I was so desperate I tried it, within 5 minutes I could drink no problem. It was amazing. Continues to work to this day (I take it the instant i feel some kind of soreness in my throat).

edit: as to whether or not you have mono - will probably not manifest itself until you get some bloodwork done... but if you don't feel outrageously tired, that is a good sign.

Hit the doctor. They will likely do throat swab for strep. If that comes back negative they will do a blood test for mono. Likely the mono test will come back negative so you'll probably end up with two or three blood tests till it comes back positive.

[quote name='anotherjeff']I thought I had mono once. It turns out I was just really bored.
