Who owns just ONE current-gen console?

Xbox, PS2 and GC. 6 more days and I'll have the 360.

I could ditch the Cube completely. I haven't touched it in 3 months and only then because my Xbox needed a replacement DVD so I didn't have it for a week.

The PS2 isn't that far behind in uselessness to me. I have boatloads of PS2 games I've played maybe once and a library of PSone games that's just too good to sell.

Despite owning, and will own, every console released in North America I will freely admit I'm an Xbox gamer first and foremost. Xbox Live PWNS me.

i have a ps2 thats been fixed by sony twice, right now i havent seen a DRE in almost a year (knock on wood)

my friends have been trying to talk me into buying an XBox, but im just too much of a cheapass. Obviously ill have to buy a game or two to go with it, and is that really worth buying a +$100 piece of hardware?

PS2 is best for me: i like japanese games, a lot of variety, and prefer quantity over quality (so that singles out gamecube)

and for handhelds, a good ol' game boy advance (not SP), although DS is becoming more and more tempting...

PS2 here. I am really into PC and old-school gaming. 'New' consoles still cost more than I would pay. I will buy them in the next couple of years for sure. I paid $100 for my PS2 about 2 years ago so I got a good deal.

I own a Gamecube only. I bought a PS2 last year but I sold it because there was only two games that I wanted to play on the PS2 (ESPN NFL and NHL).
I primarily play Madden or NHL, Viewtiful Joe, and Eternal Darkness. I am also a fan of Mario Sunshine. You could say I'm a fanboy because I enjoy Nintendo's first-party games, like Mario, etc.

I do own a GBA SP and play Super Mario World a lot. In fact I play that more than my GCN.
Why would you want to do this?

Miss Ratchet and Clank on PS2, Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, and/or Mario Sunshine, er, Windwaker, er, Metroid Prime . . .?
ratchet and clank is just too effin long... it takes like 15 hours to beat.

you cannot beat the final boss unless you have that super gun, for which you need to farm bolts, which takes hours.

It's a pain in the ass.

And Metroid Prime doesn't take 15 hours? (You did say you have a Cube right?) I played R&C 1, and I enjoyed it a heck of a lot more than Metroid's "stand in one spot & stare at the wall, trying to find hidden energy tanks" approach.

R&C reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie, but with less realism & more looney-tunes. A heck of a lot of fun!

I hate portables. Worthless things with screens too small to see, and sound that sucks. I'd rather spend my valuable time playing on my 57" full-sized console screen.
or you just don't enjoy playing games while you travel or commute, which is the big reason why I have a ds, and two sp's.
How am I supposed to play a game while I'm traveling? My hands are on the wheel & my eyes on the road. If you can show me how I can Drive My Car & Play Games at the same time - without wrecking - I'll buy a DS right now.

Otherwise, I simply have no spare time for a portable.

A lot of people travel so that they have more than one driver, or use means of transportation that don't require your constant attention (bus, train, airplane, well-trained horses, kite in a really strong wind, etc.) Using something like that to get around would free up the availability to play games.

If you've got time to play set-top consoles, pick up a GBA or a DS and play them. Some of the best games out there are in the handheld realm.

True. You're 100% correct that some people just RIDE to work & can play their portables. A GBA or DS is perfect for them. But I'm not one of those people, and I was talking about *myself* not other people.

When I'm home, I don't want to waste time with a portable. I want to play my 57" TV consoles like Atari, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, or Playstation, while listening to Cable on the other TV.

Perhaps if portables had more original games worth playing, but I find most of them are simply re-hashes of the full-sized consoles, and I'd rather play the console versions.

And so we've come full-circle to my original statement: "I hate portables. Worthless things with screens too small to see, and sound that sucks. I'd rather spend my valuable time playing on my 57" full-sized console screen.

"Yep I'm biased."

I agreed with almost everything you said except the above comment. Now a days portable games are more original than the console games, at least on the gba and ds. Actually the PSP is getting some interesting original titles (Infected, Luminies, etc.)

I will admit I get more joy out of playing a console game than a portable game however I can not hide the fact that I have been inside my house playing Mario Kart and Castlevania on my ds for the past couple weeks.

Portable games are *becoming* more original. Like the Mario & Luigi RPG.

But for the most part, the Portable libraries are still dominated by ports of older super nintendo, n64, or ps2 games, that I already own.

If it wasn't for portable systems I would only get to play video games for an hour a week. Thankfully, I get almost 3 hours a day on the train to and from work. I would pay top dollar for portable games even if they were exact copies of their console counterparts because it's really the only way I can play at all. This doesn't mean that I think consoles are worthless though just because I don't have time for them - that's just crazytalk.

I currently only have a ps2 right now. I'm a full time student without a job right now, so I don't have a lot of money. When I've had enough money to buy a xbox or gamecube, I ended up spending the money on something else. Like how this summer I picked up almost every major console released in the last 20 years at garage sales. :) If I hadn't gotten a NES, 2 SNES, a Master System, Atari 2600, Saturn, and a JVC X'Eye, I would have had the money to get a new system.

I plan on picking up a xbox as soon as I'm able. I've gotten a ton of good xbox because of this site and none of them are compatible with the 360. I'll get a gamecube too.

Quoted for truth.

I only have a PS2. It plays all of the console games I would want to play. I had an Xbox, but there were only 6 games I wanted and owned. One day, I made a list off the top of my head of PS2 games I wanted to play and came up with around 20. I sold my Xbox collection, bought a PS2 and never looked back.

Or is it a case where you *choose* to do something else? (Like go party.)

My situation is not a choice. I literally have NO time away from home, to play portables. It's not an option.

I've only got the 'Cube this gen. Last go around I just had a PS One which didn't really do much for me. Fortunately I got to play the N64 a good bit with friends at their places.

Save for a few titles, the PS2 and Xbox really haven't appealed to me. I'll probably be going with the Rev exlusively next gen.
