Who thought that God of War wasn't as good as everyone said?

After hearing about how amazing God of War was, I decided to go out and buy it b/c it hit $19.99. I buy it, and play it. About 1/3 of the way through, it stared to get REALLY repetitive. I just gave up after the first God challenge in Pandora's Temple because it got so boring and tedious. It's just walk, slice, walk, slice, jump, climb, slice repeat.

Does anyone else agree with me?

I thought the game's style masked weak gameplay.

Its obviously a high class piece of software, but it just got a little repetitive.

But what the hell do I know? I really disliked Resident Evil 4.
 
Me., but I don't like "Rygar style" games. GOW was good, but I played it once and was only left with "Well, that wasn't bad" feeling. Only 3 "boss" monsters really hurt the game(again, at least to me). It seemed like instead of programming some more epic fights, they just threw extra Minotaurs in there for you to square square triangle over and over again. However, you gave up before getting to one of the bosses, and this particular boss is pretty sweet.

God of war, Tis' a noble effort, but hardly a Pot of Skooma,
you need to consult your Phamily Physiscion and try again.
 
I liked it.. there were some button mashing elements though. I want to get it again now that its $20
 
It was ok...even though I got bored with the combat and ended up using the sword to just get through enemies as fast as possible. The first boss battle was pretty epic and exciting...as was the last boss. I had no incentive to replay it so I sold it...I might buy it again one day, but probably not anytime soon.

Seriously, though, it was a good game. Sure, it got repetitive, and certainly didn't deserve perfect scores, but it was better than most stuff today.
 
GoW was a good game. Everyone who says it got repetitive sure it does but does it not mean it's still fun? RE4 for example.....Kill Zomie's...kill zombie's...solve a simple puzzle...kill zombie's...kill another mutated monster.....solve simple puzzle. WOW now thats NOT repetitive but RE4 is still one of the best games from 05.

GoW2 is gonna be another hit game. You better believe it :)
 
I'm going to be frank. This game is great because of the boobies.

Seriously though I like this game, but I really wish there were more boss battles in it. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I'm 3 and a half hours into it and only one boss seems like so little, especially when compared to all the bosses in DMC3. All in all though the game is still worth the 20$ I paid for it.
 
It makes me sad that more people liked GOW than DMC3 which was a superior game... GOW did get really repetitive and it's not the kind of game you'd ever play again.
 
i agree, i was 'meh' about this game too

the style is great...but i would prefer a bit more...meat...i guess...like something other than constant hack hack hack hack

I'm actullay gonna buy it again. The things I liked about it are: Controls and the action button timing thing. Good Stuff there.
 
The hydra fight was cool. The minotaur boss was amazing. The fight with Ares was bullshit.

The story was pretty compelling for a mindless slughterfest. The ogre penis was funny (unused models section).

I liked the boobs for more than the simple fact they were boobs. Its a game about tearing demons heads off, stabing monsters in naughty parts and getting stabbed in the chest with a stake the size of a Buick. I'm glad the didn't get scared about showing a little nipple.
 
I purchased it at $20 and beat Normal and God Mode (mini cerberuses, centaurs, and gorgons be highly annoying). I agree, everything other than the combat is exceptional, the combat is good, but does get a little repetitive and isn't as good as Devil May Cry 3's combat system. Normal was a bit too easy, but God mode got really boring with how many times you had to hit enemies (but I did find myself using more of the features like block, dodge, and magic).

Knowing what I know now, I would have jumped directly into Spartan mode (very hard) as I think that would have been the best balance between how many hits it takes to kill enemies, and taking enough damage that one needs to rely a bit more on magic, block, and dodge.
 
This game was bad ass all the way through for me (uh..except the part where you are in the underworld). I guess it was repetitive but it didn't bother me since I'm into a lot of old school games that are the same way.

I dunno about Game of the year but its probably my favorite action on ps2 (after Shinobi).

Oh lord, I remember the first time I went through I was stuck on climbing those rotating spikes for like 30 minutes, thank goodness I knew exactly what I needed to do when I did it later in God mode. Though the "rain" in the background was really cool.
 
im glad that there changing the gameplay in those styles of games there adding puzzles and so on.

God of war is a good game but only because all the other games that are like it have u fighting the same broom man 50 times in a row 'devil may cry'.

God of war is making alot of fans happy but overall its an average to above average game not worth the hype.
