Myself I don't care who wins. THe contest may have brought new people to the site that had never heard of, after signing up, liked the site and will turn into regular contributors. That 200 would be a cheap deal on advertising.
But then we have elitist people who sit and worry about something as trivial as FREAKING POST COUNTS!! As if anyone but you cares about how many posts you have. I don't anyone sits and thinks man I wish I had as many posts as user x. I post when I have a good deal, a brag, or looking to make some trades. If it was up to me we wouldn't even keep track of post counts, then we wouldn't have this discussion, Oh wait yes we would people would just talk about when they joined next. Geez just move on, it is a contest like 1000's of others on the net. This one just happens to be on a site we frequent.
This isn't directed at any one person (though a couple came close), its just its a way of Cheapy D saying thanks, and getting a buttload of new people to see the site, plus it works for vgd as well.
Co-sign that... people seem to be forgeting the purpose of the contest is to celebrate the growth of CAG and be all inclusive. CheapyD is smart, he knew that he'd get people coming here and signing up just because of this contest. I meant that's part of the purpose of having it on the front page and making a big deal of it.
Whoever compared it to painting a house has a valid point... if that scenario applied in any way to this contest. It doesn't. If it was gauging who has contributed the most, embodies the spirit of CAG or helped make CAG what it is today... then you'd have a point. But the purpose of this contest was to celebrate a milestone for this site and give away a token of appreciation by extending a gift to anyone who cared to post what CAG meant to them. This was meant to be a celebration, not an arguement. It's random for a reason... let's just accept that and put this all behind us.
