Just the fact people were willing to try kind of means they aren't closed minded, IMO. Why should anyone play a game where the controls are so fundamentally screwed up that it ruins the experience? Some people are willing to overlook it and some people aren't which I completely understand.
Hey, not everyone likes Metroid Prime solely based on the controls and to me it's the best console game ever made. I wish people would look past it but I understand when they can't.
Controls should not be something that you eventually get used to from playing for 5 hours - they should be intuitive and you should get used to them in 5 minutes. Besides, there are already way too many great games out there and we can't play them all.
How do the controls ruin the experience? IMO, they've always added to the experience and atmosphere. If it were an action/adventure game, I'd understand, but it's not. It's survival horror. I think some people have always wanted it to be action/adventure, which is how we ended up with RE4. And what pisses me off the most are the people that say "RE4 best game ever made, all the other REs were complete and utter crap, this of course being based off my 10 minute experiences with the older REs", when RE4 and the older REs aren't really even in the same genre, and, imo, shouldn't be compared as they give different gameplay and experiences.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing RE4, it's one of my favorite of this gen. I just wish people would stop bashing the older REs for starting a new genre instead of conforming to an existing one.
