was it all b/c of RE4 being ported to the PS2? seems kinda emo...i mean, who wouldn't want to sell more copies of their masterpiece game rather than leave it on a dead system (face it n-fanboys, the cube is dead! or rather, in a persistent vegetative state and about to be mercy killed by the bc Revolution)

anyway, there must have been other factors. more importantly, where is he now?

He's supposed to be working for Clover, which is a subsidiary of Capcom.

Some people live by principles. He said that if someone was going to port RE4, it wasnt going to be him and his team. Which is why they didnt, and Capcom had to bring in other people to do it.

I dont know whether or not his transferring had already been decided though.

I think it was mainly personal reasons tied into work. I think he took the more creative route than the business route which I applaude every step of the way.

He's a creative guy, he didn't want to do a port when he could be doing something else. That and like DR Mario Kart said he didn't want to port a game to an inferior system. In his mind of course. Also if you haven't played the gamecube game in 480P on a nice set. You haven't played the game. You got to see it in motion, the cube version blows the ps2 one away graphically.

Also the gamecube version is still ahead of the ps2 one. And with the new systems coming out I don't think it will catch up.

I think Capcom just needs to accept that Resident Evil is no longer the hit it once was. It will no longer sell 4 million plus copies.

Look, that was for the best ok. He lives by honor... it was either switch teams to commit Seppuku.

Seriously, I think it was due to creative reasons. I'm guessing something along the lines of him being tired of the RE series, hence he went to that magical Clover studio.

 i guess that means someone else is making RE5...hmmm. yeah, it would be nigh impossible to top 4 anyway.

good thing he's with clover...that team has a shitload of talent.

yes, i'm well aware that the cube version blows away the ps2 version graphically. I owned a cube for a minute just to play re4 and killer 7...

some of it was pretty fugly on the ps2 and it was really obvious where they cut corners, but seperate ways seems like it's worth the graphical cut so far.

The funny thing is they really didn't sell many copies on the PS2. They really fcked up by releasing it 6 months or so after the GC version.

As for the dead system comment, when RE 4 came out on GC I saw alot of people at my work just buy a Gamecube for that game. So everyone who wanted to play it already had, unless. A, they were a sony/ms fanboy who would refer to it as "kiddy cube" or B, they didn't have the cash for a GC.

Well they did make him look like a chump as stated before. Also can I get a link? Going by a forum member's word isn't very credible.
As of December 2005 (source)

Resident Evil 4 (GC)

- Japan - .22 million
- America - .71 million
- Others - .38 million
- Total - 1.31 million

Resident Evil 4 (PS2)

- Japan - .45 million
- America - .43 million
- Others - .42 million
- Total - 1.30 million
I asked the etoychest guy, after struggling to get anything meaningful out of google.

Wow... only 2.6 million total?! I think it's fair to say that RE4 was unappreciated even it's only... what, the best game of this generation?:whistle2:(

I guess you could look at those numbers and say they fucked up because the cube version sold more or you could say they doubled their sales...either way, vinny's right-- it should have sold more. of course, I'm assuming Mikami would have left anyway and that he wasn't just leaving because of the ps2 port...

Well i'm sure when the dust settles the cube version will be more. I mean the price drop too twenty dollars happened after those numbers, in 2006. And I know a ton of people who were waiting for that. Anyway it really doesn't matter to me. I'm probably going to rent the ps2 version as well. Or wait for a $10 sale around ps3 launch for the ps2 version.

Why did Mikami leave Capcom?

Maybe he didnt want his next 5 games to be:

Resident Evil 4 X Masters Cut (Xbox)
Resident Evil 4 Prologue Special Package( PSP)
Resident Evil 4 Dust Strikers (DS)
Resident Evil 4 Complete Collection (Rev)
Resident Evil 4 Online (multi system)
