why didn't game developers do this for ps2?

remember how ps1 had a whole bunch of their games on more than one disc? The graphics for those games were better than n64 games. why arent ps2 games being made with 4 discs because the graphics would be even better than xbox.

Graphics are only as good as the processor's ability to compute and the memory size

PS1 had a bunch of games on multiple discs due to format (read:size) limitations. DVD's hold much more info than regular CD's, and there is little need for multiple disc DVD games.

Last time I checked, the number of discs does not equate into better graphics ;) As a matter of fact, they don't even have anything to do with each other. Some of the most beautiful games made fit on a single DVD, or even a single CD for that matter. Increasing the number of discs is not going to do anything to increase the graphics or graphical processing power on the PS2.

you have to admit that the ps1 games that had one disc had crapier graphics than those that had four because they had to cut down on graphics in order to fo\it it on one disc.

Like someone said before, it only matters on the processor and ram. It is not a space issue anymore. Also, ps2 can use dual layered dvds instead of making 2 dvds for one game if it is a big enough file...

A CD only can hold 650 or 700 Mega Bytes. A DVD holds 4.5 Gigabytes of data. The need for a second DVD is pretty rare unless they decide to put many hours of video in the game.

The graphics processor and CPU of the PS2 are not as powerful as the Xbox or the Game Cube.

ugh:

The design of the game and skill of a player makes a game have a certain length. Look at Disgaea. Due to it's design, it takes forever to even come close to beating, and it fits on a single DVD.

Another example:
Far Cry fits on multipe cd roms, yet can be beaten in a few hours.

Having multiple discs for a game does not increase the length of the game nor increase the graphics of a game.

werd N64 graphics 95% of the time OWN ps1 graphics

Multiple disks are the result, not the cause of a games length. You dont set out to make a game how ever many disks long, it only happens because they have no choice.

With DVD media you could put all of FF7 on one disk and probably half of FF8 along with it.
I am talking only those ps1 games that are on 4 discs like final fantasy
Those are pre-rendered.

Thus the "better" graphics and more disc space needed.

you make ah me laugh, monkey-boy...

eh, I don't know about this ps1/n64 deal. Am I the only person to see the lack of detail on top of the draw distance? But, that's what you get outta cartridge based 3d games.

Not taking away from n64 cred, though. Love it.

Does this kid even concieve of throughput and/or hardware limitations ?

Maybe if Halo was on 500 floppy disks you could play it on my IBM XT.

You're thinking of the pre-rendered cinemas, which ate up a ton of disc space... thus the requirement of more discs for pretty movies.

Oh, and Vagrant Story and Threads of Fate both had some seriously nice graphics, that I don't think the N64 matched... I could be wrong though, I haven't played those games for a while.

As I recall, the N64 had texture Perspective correction and antialiasing (most people just say they blurred the texture) while the PS didn't but the PS had higher Polygon counts.

Also I think the multi disk question has been answered enough by now, no need to further beat it into the ground.
