Why do all the Wii game discs look so damn cheap?
Sometimes I'll stare at my PS3 discs for 20-30 minutes before playing it, so obviously this is a very important feature me. Something the Wii is lacking.
Thats great. hahaha

The Wii discs are certainly uglier than the 360 ones. I'm not upset, though... it's something different, right? Right?
Well Wii is considerably cheaper to develop for compared to PS3 or Xbox 360. I read somewhere(forgot where but if you're interested look it up) that Wii's development cost are half of Xbox 360 or PS3.
Yeah, I know, but the discs that feature full color are on other platforms that have the usual MSRP of $59.99 which is what he's comparing it too.
None of the cases have the Wii logo inside or the SD card holders (I didn't even know what they were for until I saw that pic).
Those are clips for an insert used for a second disk. For some reason, that's standard for all Wii boxes, I don't know why.
I'm discussing the fact that I think this is a ridiculous thing to be bothered by. I will admit that box art is more understandable as you actually have to look at that from time to time. However, if you'd like to preach to me more, go right on ahead. It's sort of cute.
It doesn't bothered me, its just an observation that the disc looks cheap.

I never notices that the gamecube disc is the same, maybe because the disc is small compared to the wii discs.

Wow, I'm glad someone brought this up because I actually know exactly why Nintendo does this. It's really quite simple, but I'll go ahead and explain this so all baes are covered and no one can argue.

The story starts when Satoru Iwata is a kid. See, he's from Japan. If you aren't aware, Japan is home to the world's oddest things. When he was a kid, he had a bootleg laser light shined in his eyes. At first, his eyes just had a slight pain, but thought it would go away because it was just a light. But things got worse. And worse.

He ended up seeing an eye doctor about this problem. The doctor told him the most shocking thing he would ever hear in his life. This laser light actually left a hole in each of his lens' in his eyes! He could barely see, but he had no options at all for this problem. He was prescribed some glasses, which allowed him to see, but his vision was very blurry. He still wears the same kind of glasses, but that's not important.

Let's move forward for a bit. Satoru Iwata starts to lose some of his vision, even with the glasses. He is told that he needs laser eye surgery, but he couldn't afford it. He didn't know what to do. The glasses were good enough until he could afford the surgery, but he couldn't live off just the glasses all of his life and he knows this.

When Satoru Iwata could afford the laser eye surgery, he gets it right away. He could see clearly now. But, there was one problem because he waited so long to get his eyes fixed. He became colorblind.

Nintendo loves Satoru Iwata, so as a tribute to his greatness, they only use two colors on the discs. Satoru Iwata has been quoted to say "I am flattered." Nintendo thought it would be the best way to repay Iwata.

So don't complain. Think about it. If you're complaining about the discs only having two colors, you're not just dissing Nintendo. You're making fun of a colorblind genius. Satoru Iwata.
I think boxart is a little more understandable than this. I remember what boxart looks like because I tend to look at it more often where as I can't remember any disc cover art save for what has been brought to my attention in this thread.
Really? I'd imagine that you'd see the disc art more than box art since you're handling the disc (putting in and pulling it out of the console) more often than the case.
Really? I'd imagine that you'd see the disc art more than box art since you're handling the disc (putting in and pulling it out of the console) more often than the case.
Videogames are one of the few things I'm neat about, so I make sure everything goes back into its (proper) case. I pay a fair bit of attention to box art. And man, is that Monkey Ball one ever wretched.

I would imagine you would still be seeing the box art more than the disc art.

You see the box art everytime you see the disc art. If you're pulling discs in and out, you're putting them back in the case.

However, you're also seeing the box art whether or not the disc is in use, and you never see the disc art WHILE it is in use. Only in these brief transitions. I pass by the table that has my copy of Mario Galaxy sitting on it many times every day. While I dont switch games much, I still dont see how I could be seeing the disc a lot more than that.

what the helll? i think the wii discs look great. they look way nicer then a ps2 disc. and wtf?!?!? who complains about how a disc looks? and nintendo makes there games 49.99. thats better then having to pay 60 for a game thats not even worth it for the shitty PS3! WII rules and you just complain.
