Why do we continue to go to EB?

CAGiversary!
I have three stores in my city that are soley about games. EB, GameXChange, and Game Quest. I've never been to Game Quest, but I've been to the other two. Now, GameXChange more about old used games, and has an awesome swapping system. Plus, I'm pretty sure they give a little bit more than EB for your games. So, if I need rare games then I'll go to GameXChange. But, I know EB will always have the new stuff, so that's where I go for the new stuff. I always looked at EB's perspective on how much your game is worth warped. But, I thought, hey, it's the only nation-wide gaming shop I got. Well, I spent $100 in the past month. I just got $15 two days ago for Valentine's day. I was SO happy cuz I knew I wasn't gonna have money for awhile. Then, I went to EB, and traded in two games and spent the $15. I got home, and got on here, then I saw that same game for less, and saw another game I wanted for less, and figured out I could've gotten both of them. Before, when I was surfing these forums, I was like, man, if I had some money, I'd take advantage of ALOT of these deals. Now, look what happened, I got ripped off at EB when I should've done more research on here. I don't know who to be mad at, myself or EB. But, my question remains, why do people go to EB?

XBM- It was really yourself that ripped you off, if you really need to stretch your dollars, you need to do your research, and not impulse buy.

I personally live in an area that is over-saturated with EB Stores, and normally I only go in to look at some of the used stuff that they get in (like when I picked up a PS2 multi-tap used that was still new in box, for $15), but if I'm buying new, I usually go to one of the box stores, (now mainly circuit city) or of course the online places.

EB.com has tons of great deals, hence why I "go" there, and the stores can sometimes have deals on preowned stuff, and you can tell the condition of it.

I have only bought at an EB B&M once, and that is cause I was desperate to get a certain game I couldn't find at any other b&m store.

Apart for the great deals that CAGers find on their website I don't look in their direction.

Since I work in a LameShot(excuse me, GameStop), the only real reason I go into Eb is when my douchebag boss sends me in for a little retail espionage. Personally, I don't know why ANYONE visits these stores. They suck big time. Usually there's nothing real rare, and the bigger stores end up closing out games at cheaper prices, so you're not really getting a huge price break. The ONLY reason to go to an EB or a GameStop is if it's your only option; go independent at any juncture otherwise. Not only do these places treat their employees like shit while rewarding managers for the sales THEY make; the prices vary to minute degrees. You're better off on websites, but for a brick and mortar store the little guy always wins my vote. I often times find myself going into a small independent outlet near where I live even though I get 20% off at GameStop.

There is an independent gamestore like a block down from my house yet I still prefer to go to EB or Gamestop. That one store rips you like crazy... for instance they still charge $30+ for DC games. I'm not saying EB and such are that great either, but they do have good deals occasionally.

And if you're truly a cheapass you gotta keep your options open =P

EB is the WalMart of the game industry they are putting indy retailers out of business, every notice they will have a million copies of major promoted games like Matrix..but try to find a copy of a MotoGP2. Also buying used games at only 5 bucks off the new price is not my idea of a deal. Once they put the indy's out of business you won't have crap for variety, its the Big Business model. Won't to buy games and support the economy and jobs don't by anything from a BIG Box store! I live in SO Cali and GAMEPLAY ( indy)is the only place I shop. I understand that some of you don't have the luxury of having an indy in your neighborhood, but if you do buy from a Mom & Pop store!!

eb b&m owns. For instance, I bought some games last month for the buy 2 get 1 free thing...and then got an additional 10% off...then I sent them to ebgames.com for the ninja gaiden deal. 8)

EB may not have many deals, but they always keep their prices right. As soon as a game drops in price, it's dropped there. That's why I like it.

I almost never buy anything at EB B&M anymore. Now, you can pretty much find any new release for $40 the week it comes out at Circuit City and Best Buy. The only downside is you may have to wait an extra day or two for these games to come out since EB usually gets them on Tuesday nights. The two day wait is no big deal, especially when you can just price match any game if it goes on sale 30 days later at BB or CC. IMO, it's not worth going to EB unless that is your only option.

XBM - I don't know what the beginning of your story had to do with being ripped off. Are you saying you could have gotten what you got at the other places for cheaper?

Yeah, they are pretty good about this. Wal-Mart is the worst, which is why you get so many people doing the return scam. Target has long since cut the XSN games to $29.99 though, no place else has yet.

I really only go to EB if there is a deal on a new release (ESPN rebate) or to take advantage of a killer sale (like day after Xmas).

yeah BB & CC have most new games the week they come out for 40 bucks, I hardly buy from EB. The web site has better deals it seems. But for most games Frys has the best prices. Frys has deals at least every week, sometimes more then once a week.

EB gave me hassles over a 15 dollar game that was defective so I have sworn them off. I really wanted the pre-played SP deal last weekend but held off. Its not that I hate EB, I hate EB in the town I live in though.

Personally I spend more money at Gamestop, Circuit city and Best Buy now because they are closer to me and they have better deals.

also the best buy near me gets new releases the night they ship, unlike EB who makes me wait

We go there because we are stupid and hate ourselves... actually we go because we like to walk into a store that is all about what we like to do.

However, some of us have learned that the only thing EBG "was" good for was finding copies of "Intelligent Qube" for $19 and then selling them for $50 on eBay.

I never, ever buy new games there. I ordered Space Channel 5 from them reluctantly, because it was the cheapest price anywhere--fortunately for me it as factory sealed.

If u have a credit card or PayPal account, you should be doing ALL of your buying on ebay.

EB B&M comes up with pretty good deals now and then, but I'd have to agree with the other dude in saying that you probably screwed yourself there with the impulse buys.

EBGames.com is even better, they actually have CAG caliber deals every so often.

I'd say the only major problem with EB is their pre-played quality control. There are some really messed up pre-played games there.
