Why do you guys think people unlock their iphones to use Tmobile etc.

Because they have to, the signal the iPhone uses is unique to AT&T & T Mobile, it won't work with other providers

Perhaps they're on a contract with T-Mobile, and don't feel like paying the early termination fee.

T-Mobile has a dirt cheap pay as you go plan... but that's if you don't use a lot of minutes.

I pay 100 or so a year for 1000 minutes, it's all I need.

I think Apple makes more money from subsidies and exclusivity payments from AT&T than they would from potential T-Mobile customers that might buy one if it were sold unlocked.

Not to mention the shared marketing dollars they get from AT&T.

This way they have it both ways because they get the AT&T money AND they get the people that want to buy one and unlock it illegally.

I'd call that having a clue.
