Why Don't People Ship Properly
It's too bad ebay's feedback system sucks.

Write down the guy's username and the item number and neg him on the last day to leave feedback.
There is a grace period after the 90 days that will let them slam you right back if they know what they are doing.

It happens though. I have had people ship me dvds worth hundreds in large boxes without packing material. Nothing like picking up that priority mail box and hearing discs flopping around.

I make it a point to ask every seller to pack my items well with lots of packing material. Even then they don't always listen. Recently I had someone mail me about 400.00 worth of sailor moon boxsets without even some newspaper to cushion them. All the artbox corners were torn up and most of the discs were scratched up from being free in the box. Her compensation? A bootleg dvd

Only real experience I've had with Ebay was a BB employee who used to hoard the guides when they dropped. So, instead of getting ONE guide for a cent, I ended up paying about 50% of normal retail after their inflated shipping costs($5-6 shipping).

So, once I got the item and they left their positive feedback, I left a negative saying they overcharged for shipping.

You mean he didn't combine shipping when he said he would or what?

Or do you mean his listed shipping prices were high? If so, it's not right to neg him for that...I mean, if you saw the prices and that's what he charged. If they were astronomically high, you coulda reported him but sometimes it's the price you pay.

I just negged her because she was a hoarding bastard who didn't even let us regular people get a single copy of the guide(s) she snagged at work before putting them up on Ebay. Both she and the one guy(who I bs with regularly when I hit the BB's here for the newest drops) used to do it, but I only ran into her on Ebay.

Thing is, she lived close enough I could've easily come down and picked it up and would've been willing to pay $5 out of pocket without having to deal with Ebay.

I just did it so she might stop being a hoarding bastard.

Wow! This is why no seller feels comfortable leaving feedback first anymore. I remember a happy time when I could leave someone feedback right when I shipped the item and not worry. I hope he had the good sense to ban you from future auctions

I think his gripe in the feedback was that the shipping was 6 bucks for what seemed like an easy car ride away. I could certainly see the merit in such a gripe.

Oh and on a side note, I totally understand frustration with bad shipping. I work at ups loading packages into trailers and vans and you would not believe some of the crap I see. My personal favorites are the 60 pound industrial screws or rods that are sent in a cardboard rectangular prism that is about as thick as two sheets of paper, I had one break open and the rods fell on my foot. Ive also seen people wrap stuff in like one layer of saran wrap and send it. ugh!

First of all, it was a girl who worked for Best Buy and second, it was because she upped the shipping to get around paying Ebay her fair share. She charged about .99 to $1.99 for the item with a BIN and tacked on the $5 shipping.

THAT was why it was so hard around here to get guides for .01 for a while at BB, because the employees were hoarding the damned things and overcharging on Ebay for them.

LOL That reminds me of at least one guide swap I had on here, when I was still naive about how to properly ship them. I sent mine in a mailer with 'do not bend' on it and bubble wrap around the guide. When I got the return package from the CAG I traded with, it was in a mailer(an oversized one) with the guides flopping around inside it.

Of course, the other person had a gripe with my guide too(a crease or two which I 'did not disclose' and sticker residue which was still on the guide).

Thing is, if I can remove the residue easily and without damaging the cover, I'll do it, but I felt that the residue would take off some of the cover, so I figured THEY would do it when they got it.

Since then, I try to be as descriptive as is possible with the guides I send out and most times, I'm lucky to make $1 per single guide after shipping/DC/etc.

I feel your pain, I've bought quite a few gba games recently and half the time, they come smashed in an envelope. I got a game recently that was listed as mint, but came with the box taped up. I just decided not to leave feedback.

Well the seller responded with

"ill give you $5 not to leave a negative if you want to do that? and you can keep the set. let me know if that works."

Seems fine to me, i'm just affraid that "IF" I leave postive he'll leave a neg, just to be an fucking asshole

I'd report the auction to eBay for incorrect shipping, and I'd also file a dispute with Paypal. Neg feedback is a given in this case.

take whatever he is offering at the moment and then follow Shrike's advice...

the guy acts like he is doing you a favor when there shouldnt have been an issue at all if he just did it right in the first place

If he takes what the guy is offering, he shouldn't follow Shrike's advice since there is a paper trail showing he was reimbursed for the shipping discrepancy. If he wants to do anything about it, he should not take the $5, and then do as Shrike says.

Agreed. He can't have both.

At the very least, the auction should be reported for fraudulent shipping charges, as Shrike has said.

the only thing he couldnt do would be file a paypal dispute...he can take the $5 and still leave him a negative and report his auction for shipping charges cant he?

If she shipped the way she said she would, I don't think it was right of you to neg her. IMO $5 is a fair shipping price to charge for shipping + packaging + handling for a guide. Not the same thing at all as charging $9.95 for Priority with insurance, then sending media for $2.88.

If you didn't like the price then you should not have have bid on it, who cares what she paid. It's not your job to police whether or not she's a "hoarder" and that's not what the feedback system is for.

I may just take the money and leave no fb.. during this time, I figured he wouldn't do anything so i've been trying to mold the box back, and it's looking decent now.. still not to my 100% liking, but better then before

it's not even that, I didn't mind the shipping price, but when it says priority for 9.95 and they ship Media then I'm mad

I can sympathize. I bought an iPod, new and sealed on ebay...they sent it in one of those white, bag-like envelopes (the kind you get medication refills or whatever in)..............that's it...no peanuts, no nothing. The retail box did get bent out of shape pretty decently. Wasn't a big deal since it was new and sealed like they said, and I got it for about $50 off the retail price, but still - with such a high priced/hard drive-based item, you'd think a seller would be smarter.

I remember I bought a slim silver PS2, and it came in a cookie shipping box, no protection what so ever. Smelled like rasin bran too. This is why I try to advoid ebay at times.
