Why don't we just tax the ciggerrets again?

I mean these things are not good to begin with why no tjust tax the living daylights out of it. I see people smoking 24/7 hours a day. Every hospital I see at least one worker smoking next to children or even a paitence who is on the verge of death.

I mean these smokers have no life at all in most cases and cigars is the only way to go then why not?

From Most threads: "TAX??? THATS COMMUNIST!"

From the "why not tax gas..." thread: "It won't work because I think it won't work. Also you'll kill the economy! And b/c people won't change or inconvenience themselves. Oh, and there is no proof that smoking is bad for you, it's up for debate!"
Don't they already tax the shit out of cigarettes?
Not enough - theres still a fair amount of shit in them

O! Good one!

True true! I never understood why anyone would start smoking - it never ends well and I've never met someone who smokes who doesn't want to quit or plan to quit at some point.

Taxes vary by state, here in Alaska, a pack will run around 8 dollars, give or take fifty cents. People still smoke like there is no tomorrow, they could be 15 dollars and people would still buy them.

Indeed. At least he stopped ending his posts with a big Pepsi logo to make his identity too obvious.

Nothing alike. Trying to relate the two only underscores your ignorance.

Gas is a societal habit that we will soon be forced to kick -- a costly, inevitable process.

Smoking is a personal habit that we will not be forced to kick -- and even if we were, it's a free process.

GTFO with your flamebait.

Somewhat intentional to rouse people up and somewhat due to frustration with certain vs. mode posters.

Stop regurgitating what your professor said in class.

It's actually getting cheaper to smoke now than it is to fill up your car...
O! Good one!
lool, seconded!
lol, ehh... yeah, it just kills another semi important body organ. xD
Not that I have anything to back it up, but I would think it would be safer to put a drink or 2 into your body a day than ciggarettes.
Ban booze while you're at it?
Yeah, look what happened last time we tired that.

Anyway, I think we are getting close to a cigarette ban. We now have quite a few states debating banning smoking in public places. (Luckily, Illinois already decided to. :applause:) Pretty soon we'll see the prices going up, with more and more people quitting. In the next 50 years or so we'll see a ban.

What bothers me the most about smokers isn't the smoking, it's the littering.

Smokers must go to designated smoking shelters (they're sort of like a bus stop -- a bench or two with a small covering) to smoke on my campus. Yet, 25% of the grounds keepers' time is spent picking up cigarette butts from near the smoking shelters. That's not just some number I made up, that's the school's official word. It's pretty ridiculous, considering all the other grounds keeping that must be done.

People elsewhere constantly litter butts too. The most common is probably out of their cars.

Yep. Your body can filter alcohol whereas you don't really have any filter to deal with cigarettes.

Nevertheless, i'm all in favor of having cigarettes around. Just do it in your own damn house or car and not outside my classroom! I don't think we should ban anything outright in this country even if it does cause harm to yourself. It's like trying to ban McD's. Just let it be and the stupid will kill themselves off and eventually people will learn. If they don't then we make good profits.

Also every health care plan should have a clause banning smokers from partaking in their service (if we get nationalized healthcare or otherwise).

I totally agree with this. The smokers I know act so picked on, but I always point out to them that smokers, in general, are huge litter bugs which gives them all a bad name.

The thing that annoys me about smokers is the ones that do it around children/pets that don't have a choice but to sit there and breathe it.

100% agreed.

It annoys me when i hear someone say they have the right to smoke, i still haven't found that amendment yet. Considering how sensitive i am to air pollution, it wouldn't bother me if they were banned. I hate when i have friends or family smoking near me, i can't even stand near them and talk because they won't put that shit out.
