They're going for AT LEAST $155, and that doesn't even include the shipping!! Are people that eager to get their hands on one rather than waiting for stores to stock up?

One auction even said that the DS will be out of stock soon and cost $300!

My local Eb claims that nintendo told them no more units til Feb. Expect to see them selling much much higher if that is true.

Because its ebay and people always pay to much on aucitons when they get caught up in the moment. On ebay so many buyer have cash to burn and really $100 isn't that much to them. They are sort of like my father who will just blow hundreds on electronic he never uses.

Hope this is true, I have three. I'm just trying to decide if I should return them to Walmart for my money back or sell them on EBAY.

I guess they're harder to get in some places, but I visited 2 Circuit City locations and a Best Buy yesterday in the NYC area and saw no less than 10 Nintendo DS units at each location. Circuit City was particularly bad, they had at least 30 units on the shelves and dozens of copies of each game. :?

Alot of people seem to think just because it's on ebay they're getting a good deal. Like the morons who paid 100+ for pre-ordering halo 2 LE.
psp > ds
way to stay on topic there, chief.

Most stores in my area are still filling preorders and won't have any systems available until January.

To answer the original poster I believe the answer to your question would be artificial inflation.

Go over to Chubby Wallet. Click on forums, then on left side click on Online Auctions. Right at the top (for the past couple weeks) will be a Nintendo DS thread. Have fun.

People over their are buying as many as they can. 10, 20, 30, 50 and some will admit to more. Many of the people are buying out complete stocks from the retailers all at once. All with the intention of selling them on eBay for profit.

None of these people are going to keep them and play them. They, imo, are ruining it for some. Too bad Wal-Mart and many retailers don't have a limit of 1 per customer.

If anyone wants one REALLY BAD, I have a store downtown that has about 2 dozen. Put them out on Launch day and last time I was their they had sold a grand total of 2. And that was to me. First one had a couple Dead Pixels so I exchanged it. Keep in mind though that Shipping and Tax will make the price closer to $170-$175.

Actually alot of the high prices are do to people importing it. Dont forget it isnt available in europe yet and its region free and in englsih
Maybe the shortages are because people are hording them..right iceman :)
No maybe about it. There are tons of people hoarding those things. Those no good.... oh wait me, no my Walmart still has at least 20 left so I don't think I'm causing them any shortage.
I wouldn't either, especially because Paypal offers no protection for sellers on overseas shipments.
I don't understand what's to loose when you already have received the payment? I assume you ship after payment... what can happen? My shipping address could not be correct and you could have to pay something when it returns or something. But who is gonna pay 200$ for such a joke? :p

The buyer can do a backcharge through thier credit card company and you loose all the funds while they gain a new item for free? Assuming of course they aren't paying you with a stolen credit card already. There are plenty of scammers on ebay.
psp > ds
So how long have you had your PSP?

Fricken fanboys. No place for them on a real gaming site.

looking at ebay right now, they have 3451 DS systems up for auction and it's the asshats that are buying them all up and shouting RARE?!!@%$# in their titles who are the reason.

Aren't they in the US as well then? :?

I have no clue what your asking, your auction could have canadians in it if you don't block out international offers.

I meant that now I know that you can back charge, I still don't see the difference. A US bidder can bach charge his bid as well, can he?

Go PSP :D . The only reason DS will sell more than PSP ( in Japan ) is because sony can't make enough PSP.... 200,000 lunch and 300,000 more after. Some DS fanboy already claim that DS already win by the sale number...
btw I'm not sony fanboy nor nintendo fanboy...... i'm your homeboy ^^; , just my thought...

Nintendo just said they'd have 700,000 units shipped by the end of the year, so that's another 200,000 on route, before Xmas if they're smart. I find it pretty nuts that there's so many DS's selling high, mostly because there's literally thousands of DS's on eBay every day. People are going nuts for Christmas, though, I guess.

I'm glad to see you really researched the topic. The DS has a significant lead and is doing as well as the GBA and GBA SP did at their respective launches, so things aren't looking so down, as you claim they should be. PSP had 300,000 units shipped in Japan, the DS had 500,000, and both are sold out. Not too surprising. I also tend to think that while the PSP is a great piece of hardware that it's not the ideal portable.

i wish i import one and sell it on ebay. Oh well, when PSP lunch in US, I'll buy 3 or 4 PSP(s) and sell it. :D hope i can get 300-400 per PSP....
Come on Sony just lunch with only 200,000 PSP(s) in the US. Create the hype... ( low supply and high demand = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

I don't know if many of you realize this, but in many towns (including mine) the only way to get a DS is through a site like ebay. All of the stores around me are completely wiped out of DS's and many say (as aforementioned) that no more units will come until January 2005.

It's the whole supply & demand thing.

Also, since it's Xmas, parents do NOT want to disappoint their kids....so some will pay more to make their kids happy.

Yes, it sucks....but it's life. It was done with other toys in the past...well, just about every year.

Tickle Me Elmo
Furby
PS2

I mean the list can go on and on.....people just have to deal with it OR wait.

155 is not too awful a deal, Say shipping is a fair $12 you would pay 167.
Now if you bought one in the store and say your sales tax is 8% you would pay 162. There is not a huge gap there.

On a side note i have a $20 off of a $150 purchase or up at my tax free BX and I'm half thinking of getting a DS to trade.

I read that "thread" at the auction forum at FW.ALl I can say is I am disgusted by the sheer audacity of those people there.

Its Christmas time, good will towards men,etc...I would pay moneyn for someone to hack the HELL out of the FW site.

What's to lose? Your money. All of it. If PayPal has any evidence that te money they was used to pay you was in any way fraudulent/stolen (for example, stolen credit card). They will immediately take it right back.

Chris

Ok, I understand now you could not allow payments to be made with Paypal. But I still don't get what it's got to do with someone being an American or a European. You probably won't fly to the Netherlands to get your item back, of course. But I think you won't go to LA if you live in NY either if someone screwed you.
