Why is it too easy to delete stuff on the Wii?

I've only had the Wii for a few months, but in that time he's managed to wipe the whole console once (which I then locked things down) and now he's managed twice to wipe out my save on Little King's Story.

With my PS2, you really have to work at it to delete a saved game, but all it takes on the Wii is a couple careless button presses. For goodness sakes, the confirmation for delete defaults to "Yes" in Little King's Story.

Why is it so hard to pay attention?

Why are marbles and nostrils the same size? Sometimes fate is a cruel mistress...

(You might want to clarify who "he" is - I'm assuming a child, which begs the question why "he" is allowed to play with your Wii games unsupervised. The good news is that it's also incredibly easy to create backups of your save file - much easier than previous systems.)

I've never deleted anything on the Wii, are you talking about some younger child?

Sorry, you are right I didn't specify who I was talking about. My 4 year old son. It was my wife who set him up with the game while she was doing some chores. I came home in the evening and found the save gone. Again. It means I'll be playing some other games since I have a limited amount of hours I can play games anymore and I don't want to risk hours of work.

The problem I have with the way Wii does save files is that it is basically one save file per game, which means you are at the mercy of the game vendor for managing saves within a game. At least with the PS2, you'd have to boot it up in the console menu and delete it from in there.

Are you talking about deleting a save game from within the game? Or the save data from the internal storage? If it's the former, I don't think the Wii handles that any differently than any other console (since it's determined by the developer), and for the latter, that takes a lot more than a few careless button presses - closer to "I would like to delete dad's save data."

op-
I agree with the solution to back up saves to an sd card. some games stupidly cannot be saved onto sd, but little king can.
personally, i think most options in the wii menu are buried too deep (wiiconnect 24 is a terrible offender), but I don't have any little ones at home carelessly pressing buttons.

also, at a site like gamefaqs, you can often grab save game files for some that might have been previously deleted.

Actually, PS2 games are saved individually. I know because I've had to clean out my memory cards a few times.

The problem with them all in the same file and backing them up onto SD is if you have more than one person playing the same game. If one of the saves gets messed up, either by deletion or someone saving in a slot they aren't supposed to save, the backup could be out of sync with the rest of the saves. That's why I wish you could back up a specific save rather than all the saves for a game.

I've noticed it's not that easy (or at least easy to forget how) to delete channels I don't use. Anyone care to remind me how to do so?

As long as you don't delete game saves of WFC games, you can just download a save from the internet, put it on an SD card and transfer it over. Of course, you may or may not jump ahead depending on where in the game the save is at.
