Why isn't the Wii getting Rock Band?

Not sure if there has been an official statement on this from the publisher, but given the success of the Wii, why isn't Rock Band making its way to it? With downloadable content being such a selling point of the game, is the lack of a HDD the reason?

My guess is the lack of the Wii having established online play would be the biggest issue. The lack of downloadable content and means of cashing in on downloadable content is probably the other issue. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Rock Band eventually.

There has been mention that "Something is in the works" with Rock Band and the Wii. Come on, though. There was speculation that we wouldn't see PS3 Rock Band this year. It takes a lot of coordination to manage to produce and distribute 3 new peripherals per console.

Also, Wii isn't supporting downloaded game expansions (that we know of at least) thus Rock Band for Wii won't become EA's personal bank account like it will for the micro-transaction PS3 and 360 editions, at least not right now. It'd be foolish for the game not to come at all, but I wouldn't expect it for a while.

I don't understand the hype for it really. You're going to have to take a huge financial hit to play the game with new albums constantly being released. Why is it that $200 buys you a half-hearted game experience?

how would you enter a friend code with drums? and there is no established way for them to microrape you with new songs on wii.

Morse code?
I really do think its because the whole business model of the game is based on DLC rape.
Which is disappointing. I may not be as big of a gamer as the next guy, but I don't want to re-buy my music collection for one game. Think about how foolish it is to invest so much money into one game on a system that will be replaced in 5 years.

I thought they were rumblings about there being a Wii version at some point later. I really did want to play this, but since I dont own either of the systems currently involved, thats an obscene cost for just one game.
I thought Downloadable Content was confirmed for Guitar Hero III Wii...?
So did I. :whistle2:k

its not coming to wii cuz they figured that soccer moms and school teachers wouldn't be that interested. why are you complaining? you get wii fitness, dude!

Unless said soccer mom is younger than 30 or a total prude, chances are high they lived through the greatest eras in rock music.

So yeah. Nice try.

As for the topic, there's confusing reports on Rock Band. At one point it was all but confirmed, and at another, seemed out of the picture. Jury is still out.

Guitar Hero III has said on a few occasions to support downloadable content, primarily new songs. Whether or not that comes to fruition I'd wager lies entirely on Nintendo's shoulders and if they get that infrastructure in place to allow for such things. The framework is there, but it lacks substance. Personally I'm not expecting it to be major or I expect it to not exist, but there's no way to know until it comes out.

Even if you did own one of the systems, the $200 price tag is outrageous.

Correct. Though technically I dont have to buy all the accessories. I wouldnt care much for the singing, for example. I'd probably just get drums.

As long as the base songs on the disc rival Guitar Hero in quantity, quality and price, then I dont have a significant problem with it.

The general business model is a real turn off though.

In which case they're waiting for the sequel game, "Rock Groupie".
As cool as this game sounds, the high price tag could cause it to bomb hard a la Steel Battalion.
Im not sure how Steel Battalion "bombed hard"

It sold fairly well when it came out (well enough to make new copies nearly impossible to find only a few months after release) and spawned a decent selling sequel.

Halo 2 it may not have been.. but I don't think it "bombed"

I don't understand all the $200 talk. That is for everything - game, guitar, and drums. Most of the people interested in Rock Band played Guitar Hero - so they have a guitar already (which works with Rock Band). So most of us would be paying $140 for the game if we wanted to play drums. $60 if we just wanted to play it like Guitar Hero.

This $200 talk is reminding me of all the bullshit price arguments over the price of each console.

Your anti-Wii trolling is very amusing. Something so tiny makes such a big manly man like yourself so upset.

i'm going to go ahead and say that i don't think this game will be all that big. good? maybe. but i just think it will cost too much. obviously you don't need to buy all the instruments. but then why not just buy guitar hero. which i have to assume, as a guitar game, is better then rock band.

and i don't buy that enough people will get together with 3 other friends enough to make this worth while. i feel like i'm doing a good job if i get together with my friends once a week to play games. and i like to play many games. not just one. but with this style of game, you need to play every day to get really good.

and as a final thought. these types of games eat your soul. you'll never be satisfied. you'll never win. the game will always be incomplete. and it takes too much time.

Yeah, just like Guitar Hero III.

Personally I think the Wii will get Rock Band once the Wii has a place where you can download content. Think about all the content that is supposed to be released via albums and stuff even within the first week. I don't think EA would want to release a game where they are pushing download content when you can't download it.

I think if it's successful enough, we'll eventually see some form of Rock Band on Wii. Maybe not the uber super awesome Rock Band the 360/PS3 owners are getting, but a form of it. Like Rock Band Lite.

I'm thinking that the lack of a good online structure played a role in it seeing as how multiplayer is definitely an important part of the game.
Matt Casamassina said Rock Band is coming to the Wii in 2008
He also keeps insisting that Halo DS exists and the last time he said we'd be surprised about it at the end of E3

So we all know DLC is expensive and if you buy it all that can take up a good amount of HD space on the 360 and PS3.

My main concern (besides price) is that the Wii won't have enough storage and so you'll have to buy more Memory Cards which will only drive the price up more.

Now I don't have a Wii so someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the Wii having small storage amounts. I thought it relies on small SD/MCs of ~512MB-1 GB and from prior experience the DLC on the 360 is usually anywhere from 100MB-1GB/download.

Maybe the developers would get around this by making smaller DLC packs and only choose a couple/few songs from the bigger album packs that the 360/PS3 are getting.

Umm it does exist.

I'd say DLC is the issue. Full album downloads (i.e. like Nirvana Nevermind which was announced to be one today) will be tough to do on a system with no hard drive options right now.

It has 512 internal, but a good chunk of that is taken by the OS, channels that can't be deleted etc. Not to mention VC games etc.

SD cards up to 2GB can be used, but currently only for backing up stuff. You can't even load game saves directly off them--must copy them to the internal memory first.

So, as of now, the SD slot is mainly for pictures and music, and backing up save files, vc games etc.

Excite Truck lets you play songs from SD cards, so I would assume that the SD card can at least be accessed by software. Not sure if you can download stuff directly to an SD card, but technically, you should be able to download content to the system mem and then transfer it to an SD card and have it be used by the game. Although I'm not sure how the DRM for downloaded songs would work (could I copy a downloaded song to an SD card and use it on a different Wii?), so they may not allow you to do this.

For GHII songs on the 360, can you transfer songs from your HD to a mem card or something and then use them on a different 360?

I think Rock Band isn't coming out on the Wii because the Wii already has 897509857439 plastic accessories made for it. That many accessories + 3 more for the Rock Band instruments is just 3 too many.
