Why must you mock me, Oblivion?!?!
Better then stealing other people stuff, asshole ^__^;
It's amazing that their brain cannot fathom that this is stealing... there's no way to sugar coat it... no way to sob story it... no way to justify it as "getting back at the man for $60 games" or "saving one for the little guy"...
It's plain old larceny... and it's not only immoral, but illegal.

He has money for a 360 and the game... yet he can't be bothered to investigate the possibility of a disc exchange legitimately through the manufacturer or Microsoft... stealing it from a rental store is the first thing he could come up with?

Talk about morally bankrupt. Amazing. Just when you thought it couldn't get any lower... All stealing from rental places does is make the next guy pay... not the company, not Microsoft, not the evil corporate hoods who conspired to scratch his disc... the next unsuspecting person who had the unfortunate idea to try oblivion for himself before buying....

Jeez. Ah well... I'm done. I think the supporters of stealing get the point. They just won't admit it.

Good, you're done. That was a "touching" post, but PLEASE leave.
Damn, I didn't mean to encite a flame war... Just wanted to mock the thief.
I was willing to let it slide, until we got more morons chiming in how they didn't see a problem with it.

Obviously, their moral compasses are pointed south for some reason. ;)

But you were perfectly right... mocking him put a spotlight on his absent moral fiber regarding this. Whether or not he's a good fellow elsewhere in life, missing the boat on this subject (theft) is pretty fundamental...

It doesn't get any more simple than this. The fact that some people can't see that is baffling and saddening.
I am a nice guy, its just that I barely have enough money to afford any games. I can't just go wasting $60 anytime I need to, I can't afford it. (only reason I have a 360 in the first place is because I used all of the money in my bank account, knowing that my mother would pay me back once she got her share of the money from my grandmother's home, but it turns out I'm only getting $200-$300 back...)
Oh you cant afford 60 dollars for a game?!@?@?@?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY HAST THOU BEEN FORSAKEN?!!?!?!? YOU CANT AFFORD A VIDEO GAME!

Be a man and get a job, I pray for you if you ever run into any actual trouble, like not having money for food, bills, or a lawyer.

I don't know what's worse. Someone defending illegal actions as legal. Or someone acknowledge illegal actions as illegal and saying they're going to do it anyway. I'm leaning towards the latter. At least the former can just be chalked up to stupidiy or ignorance.

As much as it pains me to say it, the disc warranties are there for a reason. And if your machine is scartaching your discs up, then your system warranty is there for a reason. Not saying the issue at hand is your fault, but how you deal with it certainly will be to your fault or credit, depending on how you go through with it.

Don't steal another store's stuff. That just makes this suck more for the rest of us who play by the rules. And if you can't handle the rules, stop playing the game. Believe it or not, being able to buy video games is not an unalienable right.

You're not screwing over the video store, you're screwing over the potential fellow CAG who rents Oblivion and gets a borked copy. No bueno.
My god, I've stumbled into a thread full of morons.
What took you so long? Welcome, fellow moron! :D :D

LOL don't know why this is so difficult. Trade your game in (maybe keep the manual if you want), get a decent TIV, buy it back used again, and you're only out 10 dollars or so.
Your book sucks.

What the OP is suggesting is not simply immoral... it's ILLEGAL. Can I go to the car dealer and swap out my car when I blow an engine? Sure... IF I PAY FOR IT. But doing what he is suggesting with his damaged copy of Oblivion is the same as if I replaced my car (w/blown engine) with a new one under cover of night with a new one... it's just like it, after all... and one car won't bankrupt Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler... it's not like they can't send it back and get it fixed right? No harm, no foul. JUST ONE CAR... c'mon...

So he can swap it out, no problem... if HE PAYS FOR IT.

simply purchasing a game does not entitle you to unlimited copies and returns to the store... what makes one think that it is?

No wonder ethics courses have to be taught ALL THE TIME. People are generally too stupid to get it on their own... or have a sense of personal and moral responsibility enough to realize right from wrong... no, scratch that. They know better... they just don't CARE.

It's great living in the decline of western civilization... And before you get back on your book writing tour, remember cost is NOT the issue. It's a moral obligation not to screw someone else over... the game company/rental store/whatever.

So, I hope you wrote your book in pencil... because it's going to need some serious revisions when you grow up and learn what it's like to live in the grown-up world.
Who in the BLUE HELL are you?

I just have something against hoarders, which the other poster is and much more intents far worst. Hootie is a decent guy with the wrong idea. A hoarder is always the lowest of the low on CAG and have been harassed since this site has been conceived and I gladly took my pot shot at that. I never once said that Hootie was right, I simply slammed the hoarder who decided to point fingers at Hootie when he is the worst scum on CAG.

So while I'm on my book writing tour I'll make sweet mention of your name in the special thanks category for defending the hoarders of CAG (It's only fair considering your stating the same of me with hootie) and telling me to grow up when I'm a ripely matured married man. Of course to some that may be inmature ;)
The thing is, Oblivion is the only game of mine that has been scratched, all others are flawless, and work fine. I've never touched the bottom of my discs, so it's definitely not me.

Strange...

And people, please just bring your fighting and flaming to a different topic, I don't need it in here. Thanks.
I just had this same exact problem a few weeks ago. I don't what it is about Oblivion, but my 360 hated it since I purchased the game. I was able to get the disc resurfaced for a few dollars and it works fine now. Just check with rental businesses, and used game stores, most will do it for less than $5.

As for calling MS on the shitty drive, that's your call. I tried it and representative that I got flat refused to acknowledge the problem. He also insisted that I must have done something to cause the machine to scratch the disc. So you may have to fight with them to get it sent back.

Mack,

I'll respectfully have to disagree with you. Now, both are immoral acts, but hoarding is one thing, stealing is just wrong.

Is there any way to justify stealing (outside of feeding your family). Sure, people do it, and they tell themselves whatever they want. But, would you "swap" out your friends copy of the game if he could "afford' another copy eaiser than you? If you wouldn't steal from them, is it easier to steal from a corporation because you don't have to look in their eyes, you don't see the pepple you hurt.

Come on, hoarding is wrong, but it isn't illegal. Yes, they should be chastised, but that's like saying jaywalkers are annoying, and they are worse than murders (way over the top example, but same point). One is wrong but one is really wrong, let's keep our heads on straight here.
Oh, so you can just waltz in here and tell me it's the "End of discussion"? No thanks, buddy.
Actually, I can.

As this thread has turned into a flame-fest, I don't think we need to keep it open.

OP, "swapping" the game discs from a store you didn't buy it from is theft. If your 360 scratched the discs, go take it up with Microsoft for repairing the drive. For replacing the discs, go buy a new copy of it, or see about getting it resurfaced.

Theft isn't condoned on CAG. That's why you're getting so much crap on it.
