Why the PS2 Will Not Kill the Dreamcast

Why, because the DC was already run into the ground? The DC/PS2 debate was prevalent until the PS2 released and the DC vanished into obscurity. The system had a lot of potential, and a bunch of great games (with good frame rates), but people put it on a pedestal it doesn't really deserve.

I'd say the system on the pedestal was the Playstation 2. It had rampant hardware failures, subpar launch games (compared to gems like Soul Calibur), and outright lies about the PS2 being able to render scenes like the CG stuff from Final Fantasy VIII in real-time. I didn't have any good PS2 games until Twisted Metal Black came out.

Definitely a terrible launch... but at this point launch software doesn't matter. That's actually my point, people still talk about the DC as if it just came out. Now that the dust has settled, the DC is nothing compared to the PS2. Most DC games have even been ported to the PS2. DC was good during its heyday, but now it's nothing more than a obsession for those dedicated to it.

The PS2 should be regarded highly. You can play tons of games from many consoles on it, while still enjoying great exclusives on a budget. The PS2 is the essential video game machine for everyone interested in the hobby.
