is there a new policy that clearly said that we cant exchange games unless we have a receipt? i thought it was legal to do those sort of things. all we need is to present our ID to them, right? i have done many exchanges at toysrus, but this lady said that shes not allowed to do the exchange.

Been that way with video games for a while. Toys and other stuff is another story. They will take those back with a vaild driver's license.

It used to be that TRU would only take an open game in exchange for the SAME game and only with the receipt. For a sealed game all you could get was CREDIT.... Try taking it to a different TRU if you can.

It could have been worse for you, but Always keep your receipt just in case!

All the Toys R Us stores in my area haven't taken back games without a receipt in years. I once got Extreme G 3 for PS2 as a gift, tried to exchange it for the Gamecube version and they wouldn't even do that and the game was sealed.

yup the ones around my area stoped doing easy exchanges years ago probably close to 7 years or so.

no receipt = your screwed.

KB Toys will do this if its unopened... But you need to get a game right there. We won't give out a store credit.

Here's what I found from that link
* Electronics/Radio Control/Trading Card/Collectibles Return Guidelines
We will accept returns within 45 days of the purchase date on the following products: Video games / accessories / systems, computer software, VHS, DVD, music, electronics, radio control, trading cards and collectibles. The original receipt is required for a refund or exchange and the item must be returned in it’s unopened, factory sealed package. If the item has been opened, it can only be exchanged for an identical item. [/b]

They'll take it during just after christmas, but other wise, you need a receipt. I was able to exchange a game at walmart before w/o a receipt.

It was a few years ago they switched this. They claimed the main reason was due to the sheer number of people buying at other stores/returning at TRU for more, and due to the fact that it's so easy to rewrap games(but if you have a TRU receipt you can still rewrap and return it). The official policy is that you have 45 days with a receipt to return it. No receipt than you are screwed. And once you open it and if you don't like it, all you get is the same game, but they open it when they give you the new copy. After Christmas, until mid-January they are lenient as it's the big exchange time of the year.

It is up to managers though as many will allow you to exchange it still for store credit, but they'll let you know that it is against store policy and now that you know you better not try it again. It just depends how nice you are and how the people feel who are working returns that day.

If that's their reasoning, I don't get why the rule only applies to games/electronics when people can buy a cheap toy at another store and returning it for full price at TRU. Like with that policy, you can't return a game you bought for $5 somewhere else for $50 at TRU bbut if someone tried to return a KNEX Rollercoaster that Target had for $20, and TRU sells for $80, they would take that back with no receipt which seems worse. (Note- I'm not trying to encourage that type of stuff, just mentioning it as an example)

I second what tubtub said. When I worked at TRU a couple years ago, that was the policy we had to go by. I did after Christmas returns, and we did nothing at all in regards to video games without receipts, sealed or not.

Their policy makes sense these days as you can buy games so cheap and return them for more money. Some stores choose to allow returns without reciept probably to give the appearance they are offering "better customer service." You really can't complain on returning items if you don't have the receipt IMO.

I must ask did you actually purchase it at ToysRus?

I dont get it why bother even taking the game if they're just going to give you a new copy with a broken seal?

If I didn't like the game and want to return it just tell me tough titty and send me up my way! I swear this caused me to boycot TRU for a good 6 years, I only started shopping there when I heard they'd give credit for games you returned... They're greedy once they get your money they dont want to give it up. (hence the "jeffery dollars")

You know what? I think I'm going to boycott them again.

I returned a few a week or so ago. The guy joked and asked if I was a "Secret Shopper", but did it. Even offered to peel off the label off some other store's game... saw the security sticker and said "we use these too" and scanned it too. I haven't tried to do anymore. I had changed my mind about a couple of titles and was asking if he could do a return even though they didn't come from TRU. I don't know if the whole staff is that lenient, I don't intend to bring anything else back for exchange. I don't want to abuse the system.

You won't believe the amount of people who bring a game back that they just don't like, so they try returning it and TRU says no because it's already been opened. Then they'll say the game doesn't work thinking that they'll get a brand new sealed copy of the game. TRU opens the new copy so that they can't return the new one either.

Bingo. This is the policy at just about every videogame store. It is like that just for that reason; so you can't return the game later as being 'unopened'.
