So my bud and I run out and buy DS Lites and copies of Mario Kart. We both log onto WFC and get our first tastes of sweet sweet Mario Kart online (actually, we are pwn3d by snakers). We then both generate friends codes and exchange them, doing all the necessary logging out and back in. Now when we're both online, we can see the little blue friend icon thingy, but we can't get in a game together. If we both start a "Friends match" it just idles forever and never makes a game. Doing a standard regional match just puts us in games with other people, but not each other.
Are we missing some step in the process? Is there some magic port opening that must be done on the router (this seems unlikely to me, since we can play fine with other people). Any help would be appreciated.
