Wii 2007: Slim Pickins?
Its a lie.

Nintendo is a company, they don't have arms, they have tentacles
Even Better, wait, wouldn't that be Sony, Seeing as how the Sucktion?...:lol::lol::lol::lol:Get it Suction?, Tentacles, haha. I am sooooooooooo funny
Ok, but personally I expect way more from a new console than better sound editing, a speaker on the controller, and adding rumble back in.
That's fine, but it's not like Nintendo lied and promised more than that and tricked you into buying a Wii by telling you it would have awesome graphics just like the 360 and PS3. They've said all along that it was just a slightly more powerful gamecube and wouldn't be near the PS3 or 360 in graphics capabilities.

If that's not what you expect from a new console, that's fine and dandy. You should have just passed on the Wii in that case.

It's kind of annoying to see so many people who apparently bought one coming and bitching about the graphics not being what they expect from a new console.

We all knew what we were getting, if that didn't appeal to one they should save their $250 to put toward a 360 or PS3 or games for them if they arleady have one rather than wasting it on a Wii.

I swear I think some buy it just to have a justification for coming to the Wii forum and bitching about the console. :D

I don't know why I have to keep saying this, but I'll try again. I never expected the Wii to have graphics as good as the 360 or the PS3. I did expect it to have better graphics than the last gen consoles, which is not unreasonable.

So far, everything has been by the DS-book with the Wii, from launch, to when the next set of Nintendo titles are coming. I'd expect it to be a fairly shallow year until about April-May, and then to pick up steam over the summer.

To be fair, the PS3 and 360 don't have extremely solid releases scheduled throughout 2007 yet. I can point to more top-tier Wii games that are in the pipeline for '07 than I can for either PS3 or 360.

In that case, just wait. It will have better graphics. Zelda is a GC game that they didn't make a single graphical tweak too (aside from changing Link to right handed and flipping the whole game) and the rest of the games are your typical, half asses rushed to make launch games.

But it won't be much better. Again they said it would be about 2x as powerful than the GC, or similarly, pretty much an X-box 1.5. That power upgrade isn't going to make much difference over last gen graphics even when developers start using the system to its fullest. It will just be slightly better textures etc.

I think they were still pretty clear that it wouldn't be much of a graphics leap from last gen, and that the controller, VC and online stuff would be the main incentives to buy.

I personally was just expecting a GC with maybe slightly better graphics, and was buying for the new controller and the VC. Which is why I was a bit miffed at the $250 price tag and probably would have passed for now if I hadn't been able to cobble up $300 in store credit to pay for it and Zelda.

In terms of graphics so far on the Wii, I am disappointed but not suprised. Disappointed that in most cases, it seems that developers didn't even try. Not suprised, because these are launch games, and devs have had very little time with the hardware.

On the topic of Zelda, it looks amazing due to its art direction. Technically speaking, it's on par with a late GC title, because it WAS a late GC title. The fact that Zelda in no way taxes or utilizes any extra power of the Wii, yet still looks this good, AND is a launch game only shows what potential the Wii has graphically. Though it may hit it's performance peak sooner than later.

In reply to the OP, don't forget about No More Heroes coming out in 2007. To me, the Wii's first year seems to be full with fun(hopefully) high profile games.

An Xbox 1.5 in terms of graphics is basically what I was hoping for. If Wii games have consistently better graphics than the first Xbox I won't be complaining.

You guys are starting to open your Launch Goggle eyes and see nothing great.

The Wii doesn't have jack! Now do you feel like a Dum-Dum That wants Gum-Gum?

Now why would you come in here and troll with this message? What's the matter too much time on your hands now that you've beaten the PS3's only game? Well at least there'll be a new one coming out... well now wait a sec, when does the next PS3 game come out?

The point COULD be that there's still not a lot of games in the pipeline. I bought my Wii thinking Nintendo was going to put forth some effort in and above what they did for the Cube. Somehow it seems like we're going to get more of the same, just with a new, snazzy control scheme, and not much more. I'd love for them to prove me wrong, but I havent seen a new game except Wario for the last 4 weeks.

Bring out the big guns like a DS demo channel, a suprise mega release, even maybe a minor release- just something to reassure me I didn't sink my money into another console by a company that dribbles out games on a quarterly basis instead of monthly.

Mario Galaxy and Metroid aren't coming until next fall ? If the Wii is just a Gamecube 2.0 then what the hell has Nintendo been doing the last 2 years of development when they were shitting out rehashed Mario releases for the cube? Shouldn't they have been working on these major games for release instead of just a Gamecube Zelda port?

DarkNessBear was just being a troll.

We can get into the same arguments that were on-going when this thread was active, but to put it simply, just as many people would find bitch if Mario, Metroid, and Smash were all released next month as there are who will bitch over unknown release dates. Since everyone who buys Nintendo consoles apparently decides to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy by only buying first-party games, if they released all their big guns at once, there would be nothing to buy the remaining life of the console.

A lot of it has to do with my sleepy state of being at the moment, but I laughed right out loud... at work. ;)

It still looks like Slim Pickin's for me.

I only buy games that I'm pretty sure will be personall AAA 9/10 or up games.

So far, Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario and Super Smash Bros are the only 4 slated for 2007 that fit that bill for me.

But honestly, 4 in the first year is more than I expected as 1st years of consoles generally suck balls. I really need to quit buying them at launch and wait for price drops and some decent games to be out.

Pretty much my point. If Nintendo dropped all their big titles at once, whats left?? Hopefully games like SSX Blur sell well so third parties jump on. Briefly looking at EBgames website I noticed a Resident Evil Wii title. Whats that all about? Is it a version of Resident Evil 5 or its own story or a basic port?

The Resident Evil game is not RE5. It's called (tentatively?) Umbrella Chronicles, and is pretty much a totally different game. If it's on store shelves in North America in the year 2007 A.D., I will take my Wiimote and...well, I'll be stunned, let's just say that.

I may have mistunderstood that, but that what I thought I heard. Someone feel free to correct me :)

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case, currently:

However, a more recent report from Japanese video game news site Quiter, indicates that the game will not be a spinoff but a full-fledge installment set between Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 4. The report also indicates that the title will feature plot ties to Resident Evil 5 and that there will be three main characters, with established heroine Jill Valentine counted among the trio.

that would be new and amazingly different information than what was even reported from TGS just a few months ago. Eitherway, RE4 style gameplay with Wii-mote controls = purchase from me.
