Does the Wii have a 90 day or 1 year warranty? When I bought mine from TRU they said 90 days and tried to persuade me of buying their service plan. When I was at a Game Crazy yesterday the store manager told a customer the 90 day warranty and tried to get her to buy their service plan. I was surprised two different stores said 90 days. They were either misinformed or simply trying to mislead.

From what I gather it's 1 year manufacturer's warranty, and you can get an extra 90 days by registering your Wii online. Right?

I believe that is what it is. I think that 90 days is only for some specific thing I saw in the manual, but basically everything is one year plus nintey extra days if you register it.

Nintendo systems carry a standard twelve-month warranty, which is one of the longest standard warranties in the video game industry. (The warranty for the Wii console can be extended an extra 90 days by registering it online. Click here for more information.) Games and accessories sold separately carry a three month warranty. The warranty covers any manufacturing or workmanship defects and these will be repaired at no charge.
It used to be a 90 day warranty.. when did they switch it?
It was never 90 day. The warranty's always been a year, with a 90 day extension if you registered it on Nintendo.com.

All of Nintendo's hardware has a 1 year warranty on it.

Yeah, it's one year + 3 months for the Wii

But just to be contrary, didn't the NES originally only have a 90 day warranty?

One year (base warranty) + 3 months (if you register online)

Nice setup for the Wii... although Nintendo hardware is generally pretty reliable nowadays. Certainly more than the 360, at least.

There is a lesson to be learned here: Don't believe what a retail clerk tells you when they say something and then try to sell you something afterwards. More specifically all retailers lie about warranties these days in order to sell you their extension.

The fact is that if you take your wii back to the a retail store you may get a new wii, but you will also lose all your points, VC games, etc.

That's a fact.
That's also what could happen if you send it to Nintendo.

Mine recentoly screwed up and they gave me 1 of 2 options.
1. get a new Wii sent to me, but lose everything.
2. get it fixed by them.

So off mine went. I wont have it back for a while. But i'm happy knowing that 12 months warranty was there. They were quick to get me a ups label to send and everything is free of charge.
