Has anyone hooked up their Wii to their wireless connection yet? I did and it works, but it went into "Updating Wii" ( I assume its software/firmware) and it is taking quite a long time. Anyone else done this yet?!

Has the update progress bar moved at all? Gamesport tried updating their Wii about a week ago and it eventually timed out after a couple minutes because it had problems communicating with the server.

My wii was updating and I came upstairs to check email and such because it was taking a while. When I had gone back, I noticed the Wii had gone into some kind of standby mode and the screen was a shade of grey. I was pushing buttons on the remote and nothing came back. I then tried to switch inputs and come back to the Wii and now I got a black screen.

Whats going on? I don't want to turn it off in case it hoses my Wii during the update. Any info?

Here's a question: Can I just run ethernet cable from my DSL modem to my Wii (which is literally 15 ft away), or do I need something special to do that? I'd rather not have to buy a US adapter or router.

The update does take a while.

Also, anyone else not able to get the weather or news channels? I have my Wii fully updated but when I access those channels it won't let me on.

I had trouble connecting ot the update server a couple times, but now it seems to be downloading. Hooray!

And RF, you need either the ethernet adapter or the Wi-Fi dongle to connect if you don't have wireless.

SO I I assume it's a special Nintendo ethernet adapter, and not something I can buy from like..Walmart? Bleh, all this setup. :oldman:

How long does this take to update? God DAMN!! Its only like 1/6th of the way with a perfect strength signal and been going for 30+ minutes!

Anyone?

I got my updates, but now I can't connect to the store.

I get "error code 22062." Can anyone confirm that it's down right now?

Second update is taking a while, but keep in mind the progress bar doesn't go all the way across. First update ended when it was probably halfway.

Definitely slow this morning.

Well, they have one, but you can certainly buy a wireless router or cheap wireless access point from any store.

Did mine this morning around 1:00 am CST...took a while, maybe around 20 minutes to run the update, then when I went to go into the VC area it wanted to run a second update, but that one was alot shorter

I just want it to finish so I can start playing Wii Sports. I put off any playing until I could get things updated. Second update hasn't really made any progress in the last ten minutes.

I'm getting that same error right now when I try to agree to the Terms of Use for the Wii Shopping channel. Must be a Nintendo error; my Wii passes the connection test every time but keeps showing that error when going to the terms.

Bummer, I was really hoping to check out some Virtual Console games this morning.

I am in queue with Nintendo Support.. I am afraid that if I turn my console off it will not boot back up.. I wonder what would happen though if I just disconnect my internet connection.. hmmm

Any thoughts?

Gah, I finally got the thing to start updating and then I get a 23002 Error code. I tried checking it on the Nintendo site but then I just get error page (>_>).

I know GameSpot or IGN turned theirs off in a lagged update, and it worked, but who knows if they're the same scenarios.

I had trouble setting up the wireless, but eventually got it working. It updated a couple times actually. Took about 5 minutes to update each time.

I will have to buy one of these myself because I don't have wireless and won't have it for a while so this is the cheapest solution until I get it.

Went through 2 updates @ 11:00 AM EST - each took 2-3 minutes. I got an error once going into Wii Shop, but worked fine the 2nd time. For those having problems, it's obviously the fact that Nintendo's online for the first time, and everyon's pounding the servers...

my update was going fine, but now its just sitting there at the same spot and wont move...i think this was the second update. should i just wait or should i start worrying? its been about 15 mins i think sitting there.

My system update went alright but when I try to connect to the internet I for the "terms of agreement" I get error code 52031 and when I test the connection it tells me the internet cannot be found. Any suggestions.

I'm still having problems getting it to update. I keep getting an error saying Nintendo is having problems with the severs but I have a feeling it could something wrong on my end... I guess I'll try later tonight and see if anything changes. If not I might have to buy that Nintendo Wi-FI adaptor...

hopefully its just cuz their servers are bogged down from everyone doing it at once, but my first one took 10 minutes, and I actually passed out during the second one, so IDK how long it took.

What time did you guys do this at?

I did the internet thing at like 1:00 eastern and it went by rather quickly...

I cannot even pass the connection test. My ap works fine and I am able to connect to internet. Still got the error "cannot connect to the server". Anybody can help me out?

I was getting the same error and read on the NINTENDO forums that changing the channel on your router would help. I logged into my router and changed the channel from 6 to 1 (they recommend changing it to 1 or 11). As soon as I did this the connection was speedy and I did not get that error any more.

If it works like the DS, which I'd expect, you an use an access point with your wired router to connect the Wii. I one I got for the DS was a Belkin that was cheaper than the official Nintendo thing.

I think it is definitely server problems, since Wii.Nintendo.Com wasn't working right last night or this morning. I actually got my system at midnight and had a lightning fast update at about 12:45 when I got everything hooked up and the wireless setup, so I assume it is more server problems than anything else.

I did my update last night around 9:00 PM EST. The first took about 20 mins. When it finished, it asked me what country I was in (didn't have that option before) and one or two other questions before beginning a second update, which took about 40 mins. Those of you who have yet to go through it: Be aware that the bar will move almost imperceptibly for a LONG time. You'll think it's frozen, but it's not. Then it gets to about 1/3 along or halfway and moves much faster. At least, that's how it worked for me.

I think this has more to do with the servers being gangbanged than actual connection problems. I also was unable to connect to the VC store last night and got the error message. Things should level out as people finish updating their systems and log on in a more staggered fashion. Nintendo troubleshooting and improving server capacity will also help, of course.

That's about when I did mine and it went just fine. Didn't take much longer for all of it than it took me to empty the dishwasher - 5-10 minutes, maybe?

Went into the VC area and everything seemed fine. Haven't tried yet today.
