I was perusing CL to see if I could find some Wavebirds and the same people are posting their ads like 5 or 6 times in the same day. Within a week the prices went from 450-600 to 350 OBO. I'm finding it pretty hilarious since the only reason this happened is because apparently no one actually bought it to play, they all bought it to resell as it sounds like no one is buying.

"I am accepting offers. Really want to help pay for my gifts."
"I bought too many and need to sell ASAP."
"Leave me a voicemail and I will call back ASAP as I need the money."
"Need to sell before XMas so I can by my own gifts. Hurry!"

RI is a small state (hour and a half to cross it at the most) so these idiots should have known that if everyone buys one to resell locally, everyone's gonna already have one.

EDIT: Forgot the snippets

It happened within a month of the PS3's launch last year, and I certainly hope that it happens to the Wii sooner than later. Let the folks who want to buy them buy them.

Of course, if people were more rational, they wouldn't be enabling the sorts of scalping whores to begin with.

REALLY lame and stupid to squander your Christmas gift money on an iffy investment. Perhaps selfish too.

Or maybe they're just lying to get sympathy.

You've obviously never been to RI. It's definitely the first. There's no middle class, just rich and poor. The only reason everyone isn't rich is because of their stupidity/laziness. Only the people in poor towns are trying to sell the Wii. Notice the correlation?

I work in RI at a store that sells Wii's and let me tell you, we use to always have Wii's instock for a couple of days (like 5 of them would stay in the game case for days before they were all gone), that was before Christmas. Now that it is Christmas time, you can't find them anywhere. Some lady came in today and wanted to buy yet another wii to see if she could recover her money from a bundle she bought (hoping to get $400+ for the system). I smiled and told her good luck finding one (in a polite manner, o'course).

It's still rare to find one, but not nearly as impossible to find if you camp out on sunday. The lines at our store aren't nearly as long as they use to be on sundays (and every customer that asks me when we are getting Wii's in I tell them to check Sunday's ad and if advertise, we will have them) and yet we only now get at max 5 people on sunday in the morning at 7am to ask for it. Last year atleast 15+ would line up at the store. People who really wanted it, got it last year, and people who want one now, are just saying forget it until the stock gets more readily available, rather than paying 500+ for a bundle in which they really don't want/need.

HeeHee! They could always return them to the store and get their money back... Or, post on the Mass CL site. More suckers here...

How many birds do you need? I may be able to help. pm me

Really? I live in Montana, and I've been making a wonderful profit from the 5 Wiis I snagged last Sunday.

Must be a geographical thing.

same things are happening here where I live. most people bought it to flip and now they're all selling on craigslist and it's now a competition to see who sells the lowest high price.

Completely off topic, but I can't believe no one commented on this - WTF?? EVERYONE could be rich? Is Rhode Island in an alternate universe or something? In the real world there's a finite amount of money and a small number of people have most of it ;).

HOARD MUCH?

I live in RI as well, I saw the exact same thing you did with the Wii's on craigslist. I bought one and just sold it on ebay.

I did however use craigslist to sell 1 copy of Halo3 legendary I got from amazon. the 2nd copy I bought form amazon I ended up splitting up the helmet and the game and sold them each on ebay, got 40 for the helmet and 45 for the game. so that worked out, it paid for the 3rd copy that I bought to keep, now I have a master chief helmet on my desk at work that watches over me, lol
