Yesterday, I was preparing to unhook my Wii to take to my parents for the day. My nephew has really wanted to play it so I thought I'd give him a chance.

I currently have it hooked up to a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV Widescreen using the Nintendo branded component cables with the Wii set to HDTV and Widescreen.

Anyway, whenever I changed the settings in the Wii from HDTV to SDTV and from Widescreen to 4:3, I noticed what appeared to be a decent improvement in the picture. I loaded up Wii Sports and I confirmed that it simply looked better and had far, far less jagged edges.

I can only guess that my Samsung is doing a better job of upconverting the signal than the Wii does.

Has anyone had similar findings?

In a unrelated note, I'm also having graphic tearing and artifacts and I'm going to be calling Nintendo this week to see about getting my unit repaired or replaced. It's in a well-ventilated area with WiiConnect24 running yet is running very hot.
