Wii Shop Channel Thread - 12/29 StarTropics II, Maboshi's Arcade, Cue Sports: Pool

The Genesis had the Menacer as it's official gun (like the SNES had the Super Scope) while Lethal Enforcers (for SNES and Genesis) included guns that looked like the arcade ones.

So if they don't add Wiimote support for a light gun game... how is it possible to play? I don't think my NES Zapper plugs into the Wii.

I read that in the original game, you could choose NES Zapper OR use the NES Controller..... :whistle2:(

I'm assuming it's going to be controller only. When Pokemon Snap came out, they mentioned the Wii functionality in the press release. Since this would be the second game to be a bit unique on the VC, I'd imagine they would mention it.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see come Monday. Somebody on some website will have to buy it. Right?

For the record however, Operation Wolf on the NES was damn near impossible to play with the Zapper, the action was just way too fast and frantic for it to work out, the controller is a much better option. Actually, the best option is to just spend the 5 dollars on Taito Legends for the PS2 and get the infinitely superior Arcade version, along with a bunch of other classics.

here is operation wolf for those of you who havent played it yet.

and yea im with lilboo. This week sucks. So are they really trying to set up Smash 64 or does Nintendo like to torture us and laugh at our agony every monday?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qoo-bLKlH08
that was hilarious. I love the voice sequences, especially the pause between ''finished'' and ''here''. They sounded like robots!

eh, I think I'll be more smart with my VC spending. I buy some games on impulse. I even bought MK64, because although it is an awesome game, I own SMK, MKDS, and I'm planning to get MKwii. And anyone who recommends ice climbers and donkey kong are stupid. They've aged terribly.

I can't complain too much, since they really did sort of blow their wad this year. I mean, let's look at it... we've gotten nearly every major Mario or Zelda title AND the most requested import game ever.

I guess my question is... outside of stuff like Earthbound, what's left to 'wow' us with? More importantly, what's left to wow the MASSES with?

They have to take it a bit slow, especially if they want to keep releasing stuff weekly for a further 2-3 years.
1) Wii Ware
2) Yoshi's Island, Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Kart, Super Mario All-Stars, Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing
3) "Niche" games
For example, not everybody will download EarthBound. But there is a group of people who like it and since it doesn't cost Nintendo anything to port something to the VC they can port it without loosing money. Not everybody wants a lot of games. But I'm sure everybody has a childhood memory of some weird game that they loved.

Wii Ware, though exciting, I count as something different.

As for #2... that's 4 games, and then one which is a compilation of other games we already have, plus 2 others which we have about a 50/50 shot of ever actually getting, at best.

Really, I was just pointing out that it's a little much to keep complaining about VC releases when, in reality, there isn't an extraordinary amount of 'big stuff' left. Even niche titles will run low eventually.

Would they really release Super Mario All-Stars when they are already asking 2100 Wii points for its component parts?
This also means that NEXT Monday IS our 200th game. So, if they are going to do something "big" or at least "special" next week it will happen. Let's hope so, this is gettin' kinda lame.
I hope we get Super Smash Brothers.
Would they really release Super Mario All-Stars when they are already asking 2100 Wii points for its component parts?
I hope Nintendo releases All Stars on the VC, but there is no way they would sell it for 800 points. My guess would be 1200-1600 points. I've decided not to buy any of the Mario games on the Virtual Console in case they decide to release All Stars.

Ugh. I need something to sink my teeth into. Considering the past two weeks have been fairly "blah" I'm expecting something amazing for the 200th release.

Maybe it's just me, but if they actually included Wiimote functionality to mimic the light gun for Operation Wolf ... that'd be an instant buy.

I had this insane dream where Nintendo released Mario 1 Remix, which included completely different levels and 2 player simultaneous online play, and you could mess up your buddy/rival's run through it by bouncing on their head and kicking shells at them and so on.

I blame this on playing games far into the night.

Strell - you're gonna start playing SC late into the night, soon. I just have to spend a couple of hours getting that patch, and I'll be right back into that shit.

I just want to say that the stink of Mr. Roper has been scrubbed from CAG, which most directly affects this particular topic, and I hope that remains for all eternity.

yay, a light gun game. except, god forbid, they actually make use of the resources that they have. are people really buying these games? if they did anything to add to the experience, i can see... but, who's paying 5 dollars for this unless it's some sort of nostalgic game for you?

I REALLY hope so. I really, REALLY hope so.

If ANYTHING, I hope we can get SOMETHING special for a 200th game. Is it really asking much?! :whistle2:(

Given the last few weeks (barring a few exceptions)?

Yes.

Yes.
I know. There's always that little bit of hope. LITTLE. BIT.

In other news, I updated the OP. Um. We have Columns and now Columns III. Where's Columns II at?

God the past few weeks of games have sucked. I just ordered a shit load of Wii points and can't see anything to buy except Neutopia and Yoshis Story.

I still have wii points (4800) leftover from November.
I'll take -something- average for the 200th game at this point.
Look at the bright side, guys: Lords of Thunder is confirmed for this month. That guarantees at least one fantastic game.
True.

I want to compile a list of games on VC that are available in mediums other than VC and original release. Anybody want to help? Possible spoilers for a few of these, but I'm not wrapping in spoiler tags because it would make the list very ugly.

Some contain links to Gamefaqs for info on how to unlock. Alternatively, you can use a cheat device like an Action Replay or Gameshark.

Right now I have:

:wii:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
All demos, however.
Not posting list because someone else will make one eventually.

+A shitload of PS2 and to a lesser extent GC and Xbox collections

Basically, I need help from others. Lilboo, when we get a [semi] complete list, would you want it in here? I think a seperate thread might be better.

Woah, woah, woah. Hold the phone. Stop the bus. Park the car. Land the plane. Gradually descend the hot air balloon.

...

There's a Columns TWO, now? This changes everything.

Just got word.
Japan got 1 game.
Smash Bros 64
So, how much you wanna bet we DON'T get this next week?
I say we don't
Because I just made that up. Japan's games didn't cone yet. SILLY PEOPLE!

How fucking lame. Nintendo opted not to make the Wii Zapper compatible with Operation Wolf. You have to use the controller to move around a cross hair on the screen.

....

None of the IR functions of the Wiimote are compatible with VC lightgun games.

That's been known....well since the VC started, which means you're some 13 months late.

They didn't opt out of shit like you purport - it was never there.

If I can use my wiimote to play lightgun games on a computer emulator (just set it up to work as a mouse, I believe - or are the IR functions not working for PCs yet?) then Nintendo can make it work on the Wii. And since they're an actual game company they should be able to make it work perfectly. They're just not willing to invest the money and time.
They're just not willing to invest the money and time.
Yes, but that's a different discussion.

if they're willing to invest the money and time into making pokemon snap work with wii features, they're willing to do it with other games...

just not operation wolf.

nintendo probably didn't opt to do anything with it, it's not their game. blame taito for taking the easy way out, i would think. now... duck hunt? wild gunman? battleclash? those had better allow for zapper control.

Hey guys, now that we have a "Digg it" on every thread now.. start submitting this thread every week. I see a lot of other VC thread/blog stuff that gets 'digged'. fuck them. We are so much better.

Format in the opening post looks a little bit off in some places where you've used the blue color to mark special costs while using Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 2000 at work. It's like they have an extra space/line/enter between it and the game listed above it, plus it's tabbed over. May just be me, but eh, figured I'd throw it out there anyways.

EDIT: Looks fine at home. So it's probably just my work PC. I'll mess with it when I go in tomorrow.

dugg!
Japan's games (For real this time  )
I'm curious to know of the games that are currently only released in Japan and not yet on the US VC. I don't mean those that were japan only in the first place, and are there any that are on the US one that's not on the others yet?

Digging...

I was wanting to check out the shop channel, but our stupid TV broke on Sunday and the new one won't be here till Thursday. Then I remembered I could come here and check. And, damn if it isn't my luck... the TV breaks right when the perfect gaming nirvana that is Columns III comes out. Whatever shall I do?

Thanks, as always, lilboo ;)

On a related note... would anyone care to recommend any decent dungeon crawlers or RPGs (of the NON-grid based movement strategy variety) that are up on VC?

oh yeah! Valentine's Day IS next week.
Last year, I remember Kirby's Adventure & Kid Icarus came out for the Valentine's Day releases. ....Kirby's Dreamland 3 has also just been rated by the ESRB.

...
Now I think Kirby's Dreamland 3 will appear Monday.

Why not..Smash Bros 64?? :(

I'd rather have Kirby 3 than Smash 64. As I've said before, I loved it and all, but I don't see the point of spending 10 bucks on it when Brawl is coming out. I guess if I had 10 bucks to throw away I might pick it up just for nostalgia, but I'd rather wait for something that doesn't have a similar-but-better sequel.

Plus my girlfriend likes Kirby games so I'd like to show her the old-school stuff, especially on Valentine's Day. Although she's probably too smart for the ol' "I got this for me I mean you" deal. Rather have Super Star anyway.
