Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***

This week, Europe got 2 VC games and 1 WiiWare game, Lode Runner - NES/600 Points, Ironclad - Neo Geo/1000 Points, and Military Madness: Nectaris - WiiWare/1000 Points.

I really wish there was a pokemon organizer for WiiWare that worked with Platinum, HG, and SS so I could move pokemon between the games easily. It is a shame they never updated the one they had for Diamond/Pearl, though I am unsure if you could move pokemon from one version to the other using it.
Would it be too much to ask for Castlevania Bloodlines in the near future too?
I'll set up a Genesis and play through the game to summon it.

Seriously, my to-do list for the day now includes putting away my old Turbo Duo. Crazy.

EDIT - Four weeks of no bitching about the VC begins today! I feel so positive!

How difficult is Rondo of Blood? Is it a worthwhile purchase for someone who generally sucks at hard platformers, or will I not even be able to beat the first level? :)

You'll be able to beat the first level.

It never gets as hard as CV 1 or 3 on the NES.

I'm biased but I love it. I remember the first time I played it (in 2005) being utterly floored at the game's design and soundtrack. If I had gotten to play it when it first came out in 1993, I would've thrown my Genesis and my Super Nintendo in the trash. Granted, I would have quickly pulled them out but the initial shock of seeing such an impressive game on what is generally considered the weakest of the 16 bit systems is very significant.

I noticed my first difference in the game. The werewolf boss has shorts drawn on him after you beat him. In the original version he's naked as he collapses. Wolfman no longer has nards.

Cool, I'll probably check it out then. It looks pretty and I'm fascinated with TG-16 games, so many awesome experiences that I wish I'd been aware of back in the day.

I tried getting back into the old style Castlevania games (I had 1-3 on the NES) by buying SCIV on the VC, but just couldn't play it. The Metroidvania games have spoiled me. :(

They are indeed very different styles. Super Castlevania 4 was the best of that particular breed. I would love to see a Rebirth title done in that style.

For those who haven't played it, you should give it a shot. The controls are the most refined of any Castlevania entry, including the later Metroidvania entries.

Same here. I'm very happy to see Rondo of Blood on there. I beat Ys Book 1 & 2 a few months back and it's something I wish I could've played 20 years ago.

Wow. Check your email(s). Nintendo just sent me a free code to download Super Mario Brothers for the NES on from the Wii Shop Channel. That's pretty generous of them. I'm not even trying to sound sarcastic. I'm sure they sell enough of SMB that they could have picked some crappy freebie.

Expires 3/31/2010, so I'd get around to downloading it so you don't forget to.

EDIT: Booo getting an error message when I try to redeem it.

Post the e-mail so I know what to look out for??

I got something different:

Haven't tried to redeem it yet, but make sure you're doing it in the right place where the link in the email said to.

I did, the download ticket spot. Didn't work. Hopefully it works tonight.

Hey guys just coming in to post that I too, have recieved an email for 500 free wii points. Any idea why they are handing them out? They expire march 31.

I wonder what differentiates whether you get 500 points or SMB. Obviously 500 points is better because of the flexibility of choosing what you want, but I'm happy with SMB assuming I get the download ticket to work.

Those of you who got this, please give us some idea of your VC/WiiWare buying habits. Did you buy alot recently? Buy alot at the beginning and then stop? Never buy anything? Trying to figure out the criteria so that if I miss out on this one I have a chance next time around.

I haven't bought anything off the Shop Channel (just Rock Band DLC but that was months ago) but I did download some WiiWare demos recently, which probably makes me ineligible.

I want to get Castlevania Rebirth, Mega Man 10, Max & the Magic Marker and WarioWare D.I.Y. I could really use one of those codes, but Nintendo doesn't love me :whistle2:(.

Nothing here either.

Last few things I got were Mega Man 10, Blaster Master Overload, and Castlevania Rebirth. I've got a balance on my account as well, but would love some extra points for Cave Story.

But from the phrasing of the email, they seem to be giving these out to people who aren't checking / buying anything from the Wii shop? I always hate these promotions where the people who support the companies get nothing.

I haven't bought anything from the Wii shop in a long time, nor have I really checked it. I do play it occasionally, whether it be a retail game or previously downloaded game (and I have bought quite a few). Not to mention I think I have a decent amount of Wii Points sitting in reserve on my account still.

Just to let everyone know, all "Wii Points" branded (as opposed to "Nintendo Points") cards are on clearance at Target. It's YMMV - at mine they are 13.98 currently. Some people have reported them at 9.98.

Just a heads up.

Also I got the e-mail from Nintendo saying I get 500 points. I honestly can't remember if I have SMB already or not, but it was a nice surprise nonetheless.

Thanks for the heads up. If I head out that way I'll be sure to take a look.

No email for me either, hopefully I get one.

Anyone tried Rage of the Gladiator? It got a super positive review at nintendolife.com, though they may be a bit overly positive in their reviews sometimes.

Yup, am only 4 or 5 bosses in though. First 2 were very easy, but the difficulty climbed quickly.

It is pretty much what I wanted Punch Out to be, not as pretty, but cheap. Controls great (sideways wii remote is the only way I have tried). Dialog can be a bit cheeseball, but I doubt that would bother anyone with this style game. I like having skill trees. adds a bit extra to the game.

Lot of content for the price, 10 bosses on normal mode. Then you unlock challenge mode, which is the same bosses with new skills. (I have heard there is an extra boss if you beat them all, but I doubt I will ever be good enough to fight him =P )

I like it a lot. :applause:

Negatives I have heard, you cant reset your skill tree, what you buy is permanent. This is kind of worrisome, but if you can beat all the bosses (on the second difficulty level, with an A rating) then you can max out every skill tree. But you get four save slots, so if you really mess up to the point that you get stuck, you could start anew ... since it is the kind of game you can breeze through once you know the patterns.
The graphics aren't great, but for wiiware they are pretty good (they look a LOT better on my tv than on youtube etc.)
First person perspective - I have seen a few complaints that the camera swiveling around when you dodge is awkward for them .... not a problem at all for me.

One thing that takes a bit of getting used to, is that up jumps. there is no up+punch. You have a high punch (just the punch button) and low punches (down+button). Not a negative or positive, just something that may be a little awkward at first if you play a lot of punch out.

I would definitely recommend anyone who likes the core gameplay of Punch out pick it up.

Hmm, they had to send a revised email with a different code (this time, this one worked) So for shits and giggles, let's see if the revised code was just a universal one that would work for everyone.
Here what was sent to me: 3100 4281 8065 3998
Couldn't hurt to try, but yes I did redeem this code. Just wanna see if the revised code is one time use or if they just issued this code to everyone.

I'll try that code when I get back home this afternoon. My guess is it's one time use like any other wii points code, but it's worth a shot. Thanks for posting it!

Cave Story price confirmed. 1200 points

Bit of an awkward price for me (I dont buy virtual console games, since I still have all the consoles I grew up with)... I played the PC version and didn't see what the big fuss was anyway, so I will likely pass.

That is a shame, as now I will probably not be getting it. Of course if I stumble on a ton of cheap Wii Points I might reconsider.
Not only that, but the PC version is free. 1200 points seems especially questionable given that. I still might get it, though.
From IGN -

The only real problem with Cave Story is that you've been able to play it for free for six years. Hardcore gamers (the audience for this title) tend to be careful with how they spend their money and I totally understand if they are suspicious about paying for something they can legitimately play for free. But, whether it's being given away or monetized, there is no getting around the fact that Cave Story is a terrific game and developers Studio Pixel and Nicalis certainly deserve to be rewarded for their talents. A few new modes have been added for this premium release. Sanctuary Time Attack challenges you to complete an extremely difficult maze in the shortest time possible. Boss Attack lets you take on every boss from the game. And Curly Story replaces the main character with the fan-favorite character Curly. Oh, and Cave Story runs in widescreen here on WiiWare.
So at least we are getting some new content. Plus I think they redid the graphics, as well?

Cave Story is awesome enough I will gladly support them, either way. Luckily I have 200 points sitting in my account, so I just gotta grab $10 worth.

No free points for me today. I've spent probably around 3000 points in the past month so maybe they figured I'm already a customer. I don't know.

Cave Story sounds good enough to probably deal with the price. Definitely if I can find some cheap Wii points.

You could try Kmart with the 10$ off of a 20$ purchase coupon. It is VERY ymmv, but I got it to work last night.

I used to do this with games/devs I liked, but I have been burned too often recently by buying to support devs only to have the price drop significantly a few weeks after release. I know in this case it probably won't drop since WiiWare games do not drop, but still, I have told myself to no longer purchase games just to 'support a dev' or whatnot.

Madworld was the last big burn for me, haven't bought a game at launch since.

I will still buy a game to support a dev, but not as easily as I used to, this one just isn't for me.
