Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***

Just as an FYI on Tecmo Bowl, you only get 12 teams. Those 12 teams do have real NFL players from the time on them, but the teams are only named after the city they are from, thus don't have the full team name.

The fact that they have the NFL players is impressive. I thought Players Inc was in on the same deal with EA as the NFL.

Those fearing the end of the VC can breath a sigh of relief. Plus isn't Tecmo Bowl suppose to be pretty good? I can't remember if I ever played it way back when or not, but I *definitely* prefer the old 2D football games to the complex 3D ones they put out now. That was when football games were fun, not realistic.

On the DSi front, precipice looks good. I'm glad to see a return to more action-oriented Art Style games. All the other recent ones look like a bore to me, but this one looks like it will be fun. I may have to cash in my remaining points card to get it.

My bad. I made it sound like the one appearing on VC had the players still in it, when to be honest I have no idea. Was just trying to point out that it wasn't the Tecmo Bowl most are familiar with, which is Tecmo Super Bowl.
Didnt they already release Tecmo Bowl on the VC? In fact, I know they did, because I have it already.
You are right, as I just looked through the old VC list and it's listed for 500 points. This one is 600 points though. Maybe they added in the players? Who knows heh.

This is the arcade version verses the NES version that was released prior.

Does anyone know how long the various tower defense games last on WiiWare? While I still have a few things to do on Plants vs Zombies, I'm basically done with it and probably won't play it for awhile, but I'm looking for something similar. I was able to get ~50 hours worth of playing out of it, which is obviously great value for $10, so I'm hoping there is something of similar length on WiiWare. The FFCC My Life stuff looks interesting, though I don't know how long each of those lasts.

Wish they had released Tecmo Super Bowl instead.

My Life as a Dark Lord is an interesting spin on the tower defense genre, so not sure if you would be interested in that.

I downloaded it yesterday on the whim since I didn't have anything better to do. I don't know how long it is, but it appears to have about 5 chapters. I played for about 3 hours and am only on the second chapter, so take that as you will. Some of the DLC may extend the play time, but none of it looked necessary to me unless you wanted to make the game easier to play.

I wish they would release Soundvoyager to WiiWare. I'm not sure how well it'd work, but I'd like the chance to buy it twice.

Thanks for the info. The length sounds about right for a normal tower defense campaign. Are there any extra modes or difficulty settings?

It's been a loooooooong time since I've played new WiiWare, but now I'm finishing off Strong Bad season 1 and then I'll try MLaaDL.

Only with DLC.

Alright thanks. Sounds like it's another Swords & Soldiers as far as content goes.
Wow, I just saw some screens from that Sexy Poker game on IGN. I can't believe Nintendo let that get on WiiWare lol.
Lol I just noticed that on the club nintendo site under wii ware thought it was funny it made me enter my birth date to check it out, and then from the site itself 'If you’re good enough, Emi, Sakura and their seductive girlfriends will bet their clothes to stay in the game!' Its going to be funny when nintendo starts getting complaints about someones kid 'accidently' downloading this.

I think Nintendo was affected by the heat they took at last years G3 or whatever that expo is called. Perhaps they think this is a way of showing that they aren't just for kids? In any case don't bite - it's a lousy game according to Nintendo Life, even from the standpoint of the "sexy".

I am new to the Wii Shop but it seems that they are done releasing the older console games and only focusing on the WiiWare titles?

Sexy Poker isn't even their's.

This week, Europe got 1 VC game, and 1 WiiWare, The Revenge of Shinobi - SEGA Genesis/800 Points, and Bonsai Barber - WiiWare/1000 Points.

It's not looking good at the moment, but they could just be thinking that the VC games wouldn't sell well during the summer, so are holding off or something. It's definitely frustrating though.

This week, it's NyxQuest, Rock N' Roll Climber, and Super Star Wars!

Oh good, Icarian is finally out. I'll definitely be downloading that.

Not really Nintendo's fault, but the Brain Age Express games are really a ripoff when you can find copies of Brain Age 1/2 for $15 or less.

Super Star Wars?! Are you shitting me?! That game is all kinds of awesome. Wow, of all the random games I never expected to see on the VC that series just about tops the list. I realize George Lucas and Co. love the moneyz but I didn't think they'd pursue it by selling their really good SNES action games again. Bring on Super Empire Strikes Back.

Definitely picking up NyxQuest. Been wanting to since I've heard of it.

Which reminds me: What in the hell is taking Cave Story so long? It was supposed to be out in January.

Also funny to see Rock 'n Roll Climber come out, given that we haven't heard anything about it since....it was either E3 or GDC where they last talked about it. I wonder if it's improved? The demo they had going didn't inspire confidence, despite that the premise was hilarious ("Guy climbs to top of mountain and ROKKS THE FUKK OUT!").

Very surprised to see Super Star Wars. I blame the slowing of VC games on the fact that you are required to have it rated by the ESRB, which (from what I know) costs a few thousand bucks. This has caused the VC to not be as profitable as it could be, which is why there's been a slowing of releases. Which makes me wonder if Europe/Japan have the same restriction/obstacle/equivalent?

But seeing a fairly good game that's licensed with something popular? Interesting.

Imma update today. I swear.

Wow, Super Star Wars. That sounds interesting. That wiiware game might be good too. I'm going to wait to hear someone's impression of the game first.

This is interesting. It's basically some sort of small temporary partnership between Nintendo and Lucasarts. It confirms that the remaining two SNES games will be released, along with some other promotional tie-ins, such as the Check Mii Out channel running Star Wars themed contests and so forth.

"Additional classic LucasArts games for Virtual Console will be announced in the future."

I wonder what the chances are that old adventure games will be adapted as Wiiware? Probably not great, actually - I wonder if the size limitation would force voices to be ripped out of a port of, say, Loom.

That's pretty lame. If that's the case, then I can't really blame them for not releasing many VC games anymore. Doesn't sound good for anything that's not super popular. On the plus side, Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games should still make lots of profit, so I can hope for those! :bouncy:

I believe this is only true if the title doesn't already have an ESRB rating. Of course this really only affects early SNES titles and most games prior to 1994. I'm not 100% sure if the ESRB rating counts if a game has been ported on a different system (say SNES->GBA).

Since we don't know what kind of profits publishers are making on the Virtual Console, it's hard to say whether or not the couple of thousand dollars for a new rating is purely the holdup other than Nintendo's usual shenanigans.

It's not required to get rerated for the VC. There's no law that says games have to be rated by the ESRB. However, Nintendo probably does have a regulation to get everything rerated everytime they release it. See:

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (Wii) - Mild Animated Violence

The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (GBA) - Mild Violence

If they can't, no need for WiiWare. Just pull an Atari and steal the Wii version of ScummVM. Maniac Mansion would definately be doable, it was ported to NES already, and it's small enough to get recreated for WiiWare.

Wow, Super Star Wars--that game was fucking hard. I still have VC points sitting unused on the console, and 800pts seems fair, but I dunno...I have such a hard time investing in Wii anymore.

Renewed hope for Zombies ate my Neighbors and Big Sky Troopers perhaps?

For that matter it'd be nice to even get Star Wars : Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo for the 64.

I don't understand why these publishing companies need special "partnership" with Nintendo to get their games on Virtual Console. FREE MONEY, people!
