Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***

I don't remember Super Star Wars being unbearably hard. I definately beat it back when it came out over a weekend rental. Then again, I was more or less breathing Star Wars back then so I might've played it for like 32 hours straight. I'll probably get it after finishing FF IV TAY.

This game is f-ing hard. I remember playing it when it came out and being super frustrated that I could not get past the damn Sarlac pitt monster. I have Super ESB and that's even harder. Lousy Wompas.
Which reminds me: What in the hell is taking Cave Story so long? It was supposed to be out in January.
Two posts recently appeared on Nicalis' blog:
1) Nicalis submitted the manual to Nintendo. They say that all that's left is to submit the actual game, and fix any bugs if necessary.

2) They also recently posted about their new translation of the game.

This week, Europe got 1 VC game and 2 WiiWare games, Phantasy Star - SEGA Master System/500 Points, 3-2-1, Rattle Battle! - WiiWare/500 Points, and Family Slot Car Racing - WiiWare/500 Points.

What games do you guys recommend getting besides the obvious mario/zelda and sonic? I just got my wii today and am gonna get a points card on monday.
they don't have much RPG games do they?
They have Super Mario RPG , Breath of Fire 2 , Phantasy Star (2 , 3 and 4 I think). Also some of the Final Fantasy games are supposed to be coming possible soon (based off the fact they have been released elsewhere). If you don't mind more strategy in your RPGs they also have Shining Force and Ogre Battle as well.

Also , while not traditional RPGs , there's also Neutopia 1 and 2 which are kinda like the Zelda series.
Secret of Mana.

/hits StarKnightX out of repulsion for missing it

To be fair I don't really think of Secret of Mana as a RPG , but since I included other RPG-like games I should've have known better to include that as well.
There's also Ys Book I & II.
Which is also not as well known as most of the other games I mentioned save for Neutopia. That's no discredit to it's quality , it just didn't come to mind , especially since I've never played it before.

Any other RPGs that I've missed to further make me look silly. :p

I browsed through the catalog pretty quickly, if I'm understanding correctly I need either a classic controller or a gamecube controller to play SNES. For everything else I can use the wiimote sideways.

Too bad the original dragon warrior for NES isn't on VC yet, I got halfway through it on the real system before.

So I guess I'd be better off just getting a wireless wavebird for not only VC games but I can play my gamecube discs with it too.

In my sig, there's a link to the Wii FAQ here that I wrote (along with the help of several CAGs).

There's a graph in there that shows what controller can be used for which VC game system. It's a little out of date (doesn't have C64 or Arcade games, for example), but it should give you a solid heads up.

Let us know if you have further questions.

You also need a Gamecube or Classic Controller to play N64 games. On each game there's a button you can click on that shows you want controllers you can use for the game.

If you're going to play a bunch of SNES games I highly recommend getting a classic controller since the Gamecube controller's button layout is horrible for N64 games.

Good for most games. Action-y games that use all three buttons would be a bit difficult (Earthworm Jim comes to mind).

In related RPG stuff, you might want to look into Final Fantasy IV - The After Years. It's a Wiiware title but it feels exactly like an old, turn-based, 16 bit RPG. I'm like 2 1/2 hours into it and I've loved every minute.

Paper Mario comes to mind.

I bought the original legend of zelda, kirbys adventure, super mario bros. 3, and the internet channel. Next card I get I'll probably grab megaman 2 and punch out.

Wonder why the original Dragon Warrior isn't on VC yet.

I hope they keep the VC going strong with more Japan-only titles. I bought the others just to encourage more! I really want to see Wrecking Crew '98 and others.

I don't necessarily know what Enix's take on the matter is, but Square more or less has said in the past that they don't like digital distribution because "it hurts the integrity of the brand," which most people interpret as "we don't like selling a digital copy for five bucks when we can have our interns remake an original and resell it for forty on the DS or PSP."

Enix might think the same way since they are now merged. And they've been remaking a ton of the DW series for the DS, so maybe they agree with the above sentiment.

This is all my own speculation though, so don't take it as factual.

I'm with sooners in that I hope they continue more unreleased games here. I really wish they'd go the extra mile and translate titles that never appeared - there's a good number of RPGs I'd like to play from the SNES days - but I don't have too much hope for that. I'd really like Treasure Hunter G to show up, for example, but my breath will not be held.

I'm surprised they havent made any sort of deal out of releasing Devil World here in the states. Seems like a good way to pop the crowd at E3 or PAX or something to announce that all of Miyamotos titles are now available in the Americas.

My most-wanted potential VC titles are a tie between the Super Grafx port of Ghouls N' Ghosts and Rondo of Blood. I have moneyz sitting here ready to buy both of them. Sell me things Nintendo and NEC/Hudson.

Didn't they start releasing the SNES FF's on VC in Japan, though?

Japan already has the first 4 Final Fantasy games (or they will soon as FFIV was listed as releasing this month), so their stance has changed in that regard. The only question is when the hell will they bring those games to the other markets. They've been doing 1 a month since May, so I'm not really sure why we have such a big gap between when Japan gets them and when the rest of the markets get em.

As for Dragon Warrior, I know that series is mega ultra super duper huge over in Japan (is it more popular than FF?), and the NES ones haven't been remade since the GBC days IIRC, so maybe they have some plans to remake those for the DS or something and are holding out.

On another thought, does anybody know how many copies of FFIV:TAY sold? Maybe they haven't released the FF games here yet because TAY sold poorly or something. I haven't bought it yet since I really want to play FFIV again before purchasing it, but I sold my copy of FFIV a long time ago so need it on VC first lol.

This week it's Revenge of Shinobi for VC (Likely with the pink Spider-man boss), and Pop-up Pursuit is a Nintendo-published title in the vein of the Mario Party series, apparently:

Maybe the people complaining about Revenge of Shinobi not winning the Sega poll for 360 rerelease will be happy now.

It's been a long time since I've pulled down a VC or WiiWare title. I miss the excitement of the old announcements...
Any idea how many sudoku puzzles come in the Brain Age pack? Are there easy, medium, and difficult puzzles? And what is this Guitar Rock Tour thing?
Don't know. "Solve a variety of puzzles at three different skill level." Originally an iPhone game from Gameloft, there's a trailer on Youtube for the DSiWare version, and it looks like the songs are no-lyric MIDIs.

Final Fantasy VII is $10 on the PSN Store.

Virtually the entire Square PSX catalog is on the PSN Store in Japan. (Vagrant Story just went up for ¥600 a week or so back).

Also, Square was more than happy to release serial content for Japanese cell phones over recent years (isn't that were FFIV After Years got its start?).

Square sends mixed messages w/ regard to re-releases, what they say publicly, and what they're actually done.

All the evidence points to me sitting on the fence. They say they're against DD, and their track record of overpriced rereleases supports that thesis; but there's just enough DD stuff from them that there are clear contradictions here.

Dragon Warrior is interesting because they appear happy to whore out the name on all sorts of dreadful games that aren't the official canon, yet they seem very protective of the actual main series titles.

I'm sorta kinda interested in Pop-up pursuit , based on videos I've seen of the game. Waiting on some solid reviews though before I drop points on it though.

Since I own most of the ports/remakes of the various FF/DQ games already , about the only one I would be sorta interested in buying on the VC would be FF4 , if only to play the infamous Easy type version again. PSN releases are a different story , since I wouldn't be against replacing my hard copies for cheaper digital copies.

I wonder if , assuming they re-release FF6 on the VC , whether the VC version of it would still include the infamous ultimate master/kill your save file glitch?

I'm still waiting on FF1 and FF4 to be released on the VC here like they said. I'm surprised to see at least 1 not being released yet.

Pilotwings is cool, but I don't have much desire to play Pilotwings.

I had an extra 600 points lying around so I decided to try Neutopia. It's not a bad game but it is trying too hard to mimic Zelda, and when it tries something different it doesn't do it as well as it should. I still like the game though and for a Zelda knockoff it is pretty good.

The flight games in WiiSports Resort are such a tease for PilotWings.

Got around to finishing Nyx Quest: Kindred Spirits last night. I didn't complete it 100%, but it's still a pretty short game (< 3 hours). If you liked Lost Winds, you should pick this up.

It's a little bit different than Lost Winds, but it's a pretty solid platformer, somewhat of a rarity these days.

This week, Europe got 1 VC game and 2 WiiWare games, Pilotwings - SNES/800 Points, Arkanoid Plus! - WiiWare/800 Points, and Bit. Trip Core - WiiWare/600 Points.
I find this hard to believe that no one is excited for Pilotwings? I rather see PW64, but still.
Well that's just it , I've never played the original Pilotwings , but have played and enjoyed Pilotwings 64. So it's not that I'm not excited for it , just not as excited as I would be if I had previous experience to go by. If that makes any sense.
