Wii Shop Thread: ***FINAL FANTASY 3 IS OUT ON THE VC***

Although the news is a week old, I just read it today and I don't see it mentioned in any posts. Apparently Japan is getting the first Fire Emblem game released on the VC this month. I wonder if they'd consider releasing it on the NA VC for an increased price like they have done with some other only in Japan games. I know it's on the DS, so maybe it won't happen.
Due to the difficulty and the length (relative to most other NES games), I think FF was the first game that gave me the euphoria of "holy shit, I beat it!"
It wasn't the first game that did that for me but crawling through that final dungeon, devoid of save points or any other conveniences, unsure if my group could actually beat the boss even if I got to him was pretty thrilling.

I've been out of town, I'm downloading it later today.

Final Fight 2 and Gravitronix.

Here at Nintendo, we hate any consumer that isn't above age 50. So to all of you people who wanted to play LostWinds, fuck you.
Here's an abbreviated version:...
I really wanted to play Lost Winds 2, but that localization from English to English must've been really tough for them.
I really wanted to play Lost Winds 2, but that localization from English to English must've been really tough for them.
:applause:
If you were to somehow :whistle2:$ play the European version on a USA Wii, it shows an ESRB logo on startup, meaning that the files for the US and PAL version are identical.

Hm. I'm sure I played Final Fight 2 back in my days of renting a different game each weekend at Blockbuster but nothing is springing to mind. Still, I'm sure it's better than most of the tripe that gets released.

Now that Final Fantasy has hit I have to pick a new VC release to obsess about. Maybe I'll just go back to my old default, Castlevania - Rondo of Blood. Some new Neo Geo games would be nice too.

It looks just like Super Castlevania IV. I also notice it's listed as coming out on 10/27, unless I am reading that image wrong.

I'm waiting on Castlevania Bloodlines myself. Never got to play it as much as I liked when I was younger since I was a SNES kid.

The music in Bloodlines is soooooo good.

I think I have all the VC Castlevania releases (wait, I don't have CV1 yet) and I'll buy any of them that they put out, including the N64 games.

This week, Europe got 1 VC game and 2 WiiWare games, Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - SNES/800 Points, Heron: Steam Machine - WiiWare/500 Points, and Little Tournament Over Yonder - WiiWare/800 Points.

Probably down for Rygar. The only previous release of the arcade version was on that Tecmo compilation on Xbox but it doesn't work on the 360. (or does it... I don't think I've checked recently)

EDIT - Oh, apparently it does but you have to set the resolution of the 360 down to 480p. I can't see myself bothering with that every time I feel like Rygar. Plus I want to encourage Nintendo to stop treating the Virtual Console like a fucking afterthought when it was the biggest reason I bought a Wii. Oh, and bring on the Castlevania remake.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lost Winds 2 yet, but I downloaded it yesterday and finally got a chance to play it today.

I've only played the first 30 minutes or so, but if you liked the first one you should pick it up. The fixed some things that should've been included in the first game such as a map, and displaying the number of statues you've collected per area. I don't know if they've bug tested this one any better than the first but at least I haven't gotten stuck yet.

I really think the long release time between the games really hurt them, especially when we were pining for decent WiiWare titles early 2009/late 2008. I have to admit, I all but forgot about it and really any excitement I had for the game had waned. I think I'll enjoy the game now, but had a bunch of leftover points from the Pepsi RockBand promotion I don't think I would've bothered.

My bad, I somehow completely missed that thread. I had forgotten that it had been released in Europe a week ago, so it kind of gives you an idea of how long ago since it had entered my memory.

The One Free NES Game thing for the folks who bought the Internet Channel is now available:
http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=101188
On September 1st, 2009, Nintendo changed the price of the Internet Channel from 500 Wii Points to 0 Wii Points. Customers who had previously used 500 Wii Points to download the Internet Channel to their Wii console, will now offered the opportunity to download for 0 Wii Points, one NES game of their choice (valued at 500 Wii Points) from the Virtual Console catalog.

After updating your Wii Shop Channel, you can access this offer by pressing the "One Free Title" button which can be found on the top screen of the Wii Shop Channel.

Please note that this offer will expire at 11:59pm PST on 12/31/2009. This offer cannot be exchanged for monetary value, transferred to another person, and if the Internet Channel was gifted to another person, it is only available to the recipient of the gift.

About Updating Your Wii Console:
Because unauthorized modifications to save data or program files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating will also check for and automatically remove such save data or program files.

**Please note:
If you've updated your Wii console after 10/20/2009, you may not need to update again.

Thank you for updating your Wii console!

Nintendo

As it says, you need to update the Wii Shop Channel to access it. If you go through Nintendo's updater, it will also update the firmware to System Menu 4.2U if you don't have it already. Of course, there are workarounds for HBers to update the shop without touching anything else, but you can look for that kinda stuff yourself.

Any way you update it, when you have access to the Wii Shop channel, you'll notice a "One Free Title" option on the opening screen. It doesn't matter if you click it or not, since if you browse through the NES titles, you'll notice that the prices of all non-import NES games have changed to "One Free Title". To redeem your voucher, just go through the normal buying process.

I used my NES voucher on Super Mario Bros. 3.

You make it sound like everyone has access to this option, not just if you paid for the Internet Channel...how does it know? my Wii was glowing this morning, I guess that's what this is for...so I wonder if the updates installs an app to determine how you got it?? Seems like it should only prompt people to update if they did in fact pay for it...strange strange strange! I'll check later, maybe I'll get a free game!

Just checked on this myself. Downloaded the update and visited the Wii Shop Channel. I never paid for the internet channel, so I didn't have the free NES game option.

Makes sense. The Internet Channel was for sale between two particular dates, and all they have to do to determine if you get the free game is look at when you downloaded it for the first time.

I'm not sure what to use the free game on. I'm leaning towards Punch-Out!!, but Kirby's Adventure or one of the puzzle games (I'm thinking Yoshi or Wario's Woods) would be good too... :whistle2:k

So anyway, Muscle March is being localized and released in Germany:

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=101513
http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=101512
Next week in Japan, their schedule will be:
-Bit.Trip Void (Arc System Works, 500pts)
-Castlevania Adventure: ReBirth (Konami, 1000pts)
-Shadow Walker: Kage no Shounen to Hikari no Yousei (Game Arts, 1000pts)
-@Simple Series Vol. 5: The Judo (D3 Publisher, 700pts)
-Championship Lode Runner (FC, Hudson Soft)
-Sonic & Knuckles (MD, Sega)
-Face Off (VCA, Namco Bandai)
-Rolling Thunder 2 (VCA, Namco Bandai)

What is interesting is that Sonic & Knuckles will support the lock-on feature; if you have S&K and another Sonic game on VC (Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3), then you can access the lock-on version of S&K and that game (Blue Spheres, K in S2, S3&K).

I can't see how EA Sudoku is only 200 points, but if it's true that is crazy.

That can't be what the actual game description reads like for ZAMN, can it?

I never played this, but I keep hearing good things. Might pick it up.

In addition to ZAMN being released (which is awesome in an of itself), Excitebike World Rally has been announced as a Wiiware title. Releases on November 9, complete with online play, track editor, multiple controller options, etc.

As for updating this thread, this might happen today/tonight. A few people on these forums can attest that I've been gone for a good reason, which was my little sister's wedding. I won't really go into specifics but it was a huge undertaking over the last several months. In the end, it was an amazing accomplishment, and went off without a hitch.

So anyway, big day for Wiiware/VC.

Whatever, ZAMN on VC is definitely a surprise.

I am completely shocked to learn about Excitebike. Totally was expecting them to just reveal Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth. I don't think I'll buy it, but it's cool to see old stuff remade.
