Yeah, I'm pretty stoked for Earthbound even though I've never played it. I've seen tons of praise/hype for it over the years, and the idea of an old school RPG that is not in a cliche fantasy setting sounds awesome. So bought when I get home (this almost puts me over the edge for another $5 card from the digital promo too).

Is there a single Nintendo point card I can buy to use for Wii U and 3DS? I've never bought anything off Nintendo's store.
As in being able to use the money on either platform at the same time? No, they have eShop cards that you can redeem on either system, but the money is stuck on that system.

Points cards for one work for the other BUT once redeemed it's tied to that system it's redeemed on. You can use a credit card for individual purchases of any price (even the $.30 games) without storing the credit card information.

Since we can't have a thread and must put any kind of sale into these jumbled up threads (cag needs some new threads, seems like it's the same ole deals lately lol), I'll ask it here:

Is earthbound actually a good game or just sought after due to its rarity?

I don't know what you're talking about, but there's an Earthbound thread right here that anybody can post in.

Really? Might have to try using my card for DK. Pretty nice if it doesn't store your info.

So NES Donkey Kong isn't nearly as good as the arcade version, right?

Yep, it gives you the option of storing the credit card info but doesn't require it. I'm fairly certain after credit card fees that Nintendo is actually losing money on all the $.30 charges I've made for the cheap games but I'm just too lazy to remember to buy cards when I'm at a store. At any rate, just click on purchase and it will give you 2 options of paying (if you have nothing in your eshop wallet) one is to add money and the other says something like "pay balance (or purchase?) with credit card" click on that, enter your card, and that's it.

Hmmm... I have a $20 card and then I could get that $30 from the SMT IV/FE promo. I was going to put the $30 on my 3DS though. It really sucks at times like this that they aren't a unified account.

So now I need to decide if I want to go buy $30 worth of cards to add to my Wii U to get that extra $5 (since I'd be adding the $20 anyway). At least I waited on the $20 - I bought the card 4 or 5 weeks ago but just haven't bothered with it yet.

Of course I have no idea what I'd spend the $20 on (except for 30 cents of it) let alone $55. I have the disc-based Pikmin 3 preordered already.

D'oh! It looks like cards are only sold in $20 or $50 increments and since I'd want to use my Gamestop credit for this instead of my CC I guess I need to apply the $30 SMT/FE code and then buy a $20 card for my 3DS. Hopefully that works and it doesn't have to be CC or a purchased card:

Add funds to your Nintendo eShop account using a credit card or Nintendo pre-paid card by July 28, 2013.*
Not sure if the $30 promo code would count as a "Nintendo pre-paid card" or not...

I fired off an email to Nintendo support. I don't expect a straight answer (as the issue is somewhat complex) but it is worth a shot, anyway. I'm expecting to be told the SMT IV/FE promo is only for the 3DS even though CAGs have verified that the $30 code works on the Wii U as well.

They also sell $35 cards. I was lazy enough that I had a $20 and $35 card unredeemed from months ago, so I managed to parlay that into a free $5. Probably not going to worry about getting the other $5.

I saw that on GS but it looks like those are being discontinued or something because only a handful of GS stores (and not the ones close to me) have them. I'm not going to drive 30 miles each way to get one of those ;). I could always just buy 2 more $20 cards and then redeem the $30 code as I planned on my 3DS. I'm still waiting on a response from Nintendo support. If they say it is OK, then I'll go ahead and do the $20 and $30 on my Wii U and contact them later if I don't get the bonus.

The Promo on Nintendo's website says "Available for Wii U AND 3DS" (FE/SMT)
I know that but these are CS reps we are talking about and they won't understand what I am asking and will probably think I am mixing up a 3DS and Wii U promo as say that it can't be done. But who knows, they might just surprise me. I have slightly higher hope for Nintendo reps than I do for most other places.

I've found that Nintendo Customer Service is very friendly and knowledgable about their products and promos, and would be able to answer your questions about the 3DS/WiiU credits. They're the only CS number I've called where I've actually been happy that I took the time to call them, as they have a "always happy" attitude, not to mention they play classic Nintendo music when you're on hold for a bit :) Last time I called them was to confirm that I was qualified for the Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D soundtrack promo, as their site was being bombarded my launch-day registrations, and the CS people instantly knew about what promo I was talking about. Ok, that's enough shilling for Nintendo CS for today :)

I bought the NES DK because it was only $0.30, but the one I really want is the awesome arcade version that you could unlock in DK64! That was near perfect, and I would pay $8 - 10 for that.

I thought there were music licensing issues with Earthbound.
Not sure if that ever panned out as fact. I hear a lot of rumors on the internet, such as Nintendo took the DKC trilogy off the WiiShop because of Rare, which obviously turned out to be false. Rare even came out with a statement saying they have no rights over the games (just giving a clear example). Point is when a company, such as Nintendo, pulls a seemingly illogical maneuver in the eyes of the consumer and fanbase, conjectures start floating around to justify WHY it is happening. People always have to make sense of senseless situations. So when Earthbound never released on WiiShop, naturally people started rationalizing as to WHY the game didn't come out, hence the music licensing theory. I wouldn't put too much stock into any of them, unless backed up by facts or official statements.

Well there goes the first $10 of my $30 SMTIV/FE promo credit. I almost redeemed it on my 3ds last night but figured I'd wait till today's EShop update to make my final decision, this definitely makes it worth redeeming on my WiiU.

I love that they took the extra step of making the strategy guide viewable on the game pad.
Isnt earthbound on wii u? That SMTIV promo was for 3ds i thought? Are the wii u and 3ds eshops linked?

No new deals for this week. There is an ad for a free two month trial for Hulu Plus, so that's something, I guess.

Cloudberry Kingdom and Harvest Moon are out this week on the eShop.

2 month free trial is nice. Psycho Pass marathon it is plus some other anime Ive wanted to check out. Sucks you cant use the gamepad as the sole device minus the tv to navigate and watch videos but its still not bad for free.

Wanting to buy the 30 cent Donkey Kong but I cant get in the eshop, error 105-4111.  I'll see if I can figure that out later.  Never had a problem getting in to the eshop before.

The new deal for this week:

Nano Assault Neo - $6.99 - 30% Off - Ends 8/31

There's also a weird app thing called Animal Crossing Plaza that seems to be integrated with Animal Crossing: New Leaf to let you share stuff from the game on the Miiverse and Wii U friends? It's free, so there's nothing to stop you from trying it out.

For the record Trine 2 is on sale until 9/5 for $7.99 (Regular : $19.99)

and

Bit Trip Presents Runner 2 is on sale for $11.25 (I think) regular was (14.99).

The new deals for this week:

Bit.Trip Presents... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - $11.25 - 25% Off - Ends 8/29

Trine 2: Director's Cut - $7.99 - 60% Off - Ends 9/5

It looks like the Good Friends Character Pack for Runner 2 is also on sale for $1.99 since that pack is $3 everywhere else.

DuckTales: Remastered is out this week along with Galaga on Virtual Console. There's also a demo for Wonderful 101.

The new deals for this week:

Funky Barn - $19.99 - 33% Off - Permanent Price Drop

Promotions

Buy One, Get The Other Two 50% Off - Street Fighter II: The World Warriors, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers - $7.99 each - ~$15.99 total

The buy one and get the other for 50% on Street Fighter works if you're upgrading a Wii VC version. I upgraded SFII for $1.50 and got half off on the other two games.

No new deals for this week. Nano Assault Neo ends tomorrow morning for those that want to get that game. They seem to have changed the eShop so that deals get their own section, but they don't display information about when they end anymore. That may just be due to their not being anything on sale, so maybe it'll go back to normal when that happens.

Pokemon Rumble U is out now on the eShop for $17.99, The Legend of Zelda is out on Virtual Console, and Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff for $39.99.

Nothing is on sale right now for the second week in a row.

Breath of Fire II is out now for the Virtual Console for $7.99. Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams are out now for $14.99 each. Spot The Differences: Party! is out for $5. Rayman Legends is the big game for the week at $59.99.
