Pretty awesome deal, if they're all like that and he didn't just get lucky. I detest scratched discs, even if it doesn't affect play. Is this condition the same on hardware too? A console for $30 less (with shipping) than retail is awful tempting.
From my experience, yes. Their refurbs come sealed just like new, but with the red "refurb" label on the box. Pretty incredible.
Yeah, I think everyone that's gotten refurb hardware has been really pleased.

I remember some people reporting they had SM3DW and Nintendoland preloaded on their refurbished system even though they didn't purchase the bundle. You would think Nintendo would wipe them clean and force people to spend money on games.

General question, but how is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga? I saw it today while perusing the eShop and, since I've missed out on pretty much all handheld titles, I was intrigued.
It's one of my favorite games of all time and one of the few I gave a 10/10 to. Absolutely adore Superstar Saga, though I only really play it on handhelds.

Apparently in December they intentionally preloaded SM3DW on the refurbs, as well as including Nintendoland like they usually do. Not sure if they're going to continue doing that, but a great deal for those who got them.

As I said before, the GBA version of Yoshi's Island does have one thing going for it, they turned down baby mario's awful auto-tune crying, so you can actually listen to the nice music in the game, and not have to worry about muting the game.

What is the next game, punch out or Metroid prime trilogy?
I believe they said Metroid Prime Trilogy is going to be released on the 29th, so unless Punch-Out slips in earlier, that's what it will be. Doubt that will ever be an $11 refurb.

Bought a SMG2. I'll be eating crow when it's on sale for $5.00 in the next three or so years, but I'd be eating something far worse were I to not buy it now, and it ends up never being at this price again.

I'm currently playing 3DW too, but SMG2 is a totally different type of game. If you've never played an SMG game before I highly recommend it. There's not really any other type of Mario game like it.
I played the first one, I think I want a disc of it when I eventually do grab it, even if it costs more. If I had a bit more money I might have gotten all three. Only one I'm 100% buying is Metroid.

I've got sealed copies of the games on my shelf, and will still be buying all 3 digitally. #firstwor fuck

At least with Nintendo you know it will be another 3 years or so until it's on sale again.

Punch out is tomorrow, and don't discount it, it's a fun use of waggle.
The game is fun, but I have no idea why or how you would play it with the motion controls. It's too fast paced and precise, it would seem. At least they give you option to play NES style.

I heard that too. Many reviewers said as much, and my cousin even bought a Wii Fit board just for this game. He said it wasn't accurate enough - mac would consistently throw the wrong punches.

I never played the singleplayer with the motion controls, for just that reason. But I pretty much always played the multiplayer with motion. That's a blast.

New games are up if you aren't home to see.

Punch-Out!! - 9.99

NES Remix 2 - 10.49

Kind of wish I grabbed NES Remix last week now, guess I'm still grabbing the disc.

3DS games are:

Zelda 1, Link Between Worlds, Kid Icarus GB, and Kid Icarus Uprising.

Zelda 1 is one of the options from Club Nintendo also.

The only way to play Punch Out! are the NES controls. The motion functionality was clearly perfunctory and entirely unnecessary.

Punch Out! on the Wii was brilliant; as good as the original and Super Punchout!, both of which I consider among my personal favorites.

I take it this won't function with the gamepad either, huh? That bites.
They're just re-releases of regular Wii games without any enhancements whatsoever, aside from ease of access.

Also, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort - Worth owning both, just Resort (as it's a sequel/update) or skip them?

Assuming you have a Wii U, get Wii Sports Club.
Resort has a lot of variety, but to me it felt more like a bunch of mini games that you won't care to return to.

So I didn't play Remix 1, and I was kinda thinking that Remix 2 was a likely candidate for Platinum rewards this year. But I'd definitely play it if I bought it now.

Also (and maybe this is a weird thing to hone in on, but) there's something kind of unseemly about the NES Remix series, since some of the "remixing" is the kind of stuff that ROM hackers have been doing for years, and that Nintendo has been actively trying to stop them from doing. (I have similar feelings about Mario Maker, but those are outweighed by the importance of giving people, and especially kids, straightforward tools for making games).

Hmmm, I say.

Small clarification: Punch-Out!! does require the Wiimote, but you can play (in non-motion, NES controller-style mode) without a nunchuck.

so dumb question, never really played punch out (mom wouldn't let us play violent games) so is this the one with mike tyson?  I thought that was always called Mike Tyson's punch out

super mario galaxy 2 was a no brainer to buy, punch out seems a bit more questionable... if you don't have any nostalgia for it, is it really worth playing?

What bothers me the most is that Yoshi is permanently set to "auto-run", as if you were holding down the Y button on the SNES controller. It's a fair port, but the original is still far better. Pity they haven't been able to get around those graphical issues.
The SNES original had the auto-run, too, unless I'm totally wrong. I think with all the egg-throwing, they wanted to give us one less thing to worry about. I played the SNES version a ton and only tried (and hated) subsequent versions briefly, and I don't remember ever holding Y to run. I think I'd remember, too, because I'm one of those weirdoes who never walks in Mario games and constantly holds down the run button.

As I said before, the GBA version of Yoshi's Island does have one thing going for it, they turned down baby mario's awful auto-tune crying, so you can actually listen to the nice music in the game, and not have to worry about muting the game.
I've only played the SNES, GBA (original) and 3DS GBA Ambassador versions, not the Wii U GBA version, but from the versions I've played, the music is a huge downgrade from the SNES original. I don't remember them turning off the crying, either--maybe that's new for the Wii U version. And maybe they somehow fixed the terrible audio.

Couple of questions. I sold my wii u during the holidays to help fund Christmas. I just bought my replacement console but it won't arrive until Monday. Is there any way to buy Mario Galaxy 2 at the sale price and then download it when the Wii u comes?

Also I deleted my account from that wii u. There were quite a few games on there. Is there any way to get that same account on my wii u?
Let us know, but I think you are totally out of luck.

So i found out why my colors get weird when going into wii mode. I have too many P's, but i dont know how to reduce them on my TV. Apparently it needs to be in 480p and its currently in 1080p and i went through all the menus trying to manually switch it to 480p but couldn't find the option. Hopefully when i find the remote that came with the TV it has an easy way to switch the resolution

Edit. Figured it out... had to lower the resolution on the Wii u itself. Is there a way to have it so the resolution is only 480p in the Wii U menu? Or do i really have to switch back and forth every time I play a Wii game?
Looks like no one replied to you. TV issues are tough. And this is a TV issue, not a Wii U issue. Your TV should switch automatically into the correct mode. I feel your pain, though not as keenly--I have TV issues of my own (TV is delayed so retro games are impossible and audio is out of sync with the gamepad).

Mike Tyson is not in this one.

The Punch Out on Wii was my first encounter with the series, and I loved it. It even made play the original and want a sequel on Wii U/3DS. Totally worth $10.

Mike Tyson isn't even in the original NES version anymore. He beat his wife or something and they took him out and replaced him with Mr. Dream. Obviously there are still a ton of the old carts floating around that he's still in, but all the Virtual Console versions and such will be Mr. Dream.

That's correct, but isn't the reason of Mike Tyson not being in the game no more was because a license to use him expired?

At least that's what I've read...

Gosh, I have no idea! Maybe! You'd think that even without the icense, they could have kept printing the original game, but I don't know.

Nintendo also wouldn't want a violent criminal in their games to sully their wholesome image, so I think either theory is just as likely. I just always thought the latter. No idea now!

Edit: (From Wikipedia): "After Nintendo's license to use Mike Tyson as a special Punch-Out!! character expired (they decided against renewing it due to his recent defeat by James "Buster" Douglas), Nintendo replaced Tyson with a fictional character called Mr. Dream and re-released the game in North America as simply Punch-Out!! in August 1990 in limited quantities.[6] This version was released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Japan on February 1, 2012, in Europe on March 1, 2012 and in North America on March 8, 2012."

Guess I was wrong!

NES remix 1 was on sale? Dang.

Well, I highly recommend 2
I don't think it was. I was just on the eShop on Tuesday to buy SMG 2 and don't recall seeing it in the sale section.

That would be Drederick Tatum. Tyson raped a woman.

Well, the official Smash Bros. is also the result of a hacked game called Kart Fighter released overseas (Taiwan, etc.) for the original NES soon after Mario Kart debuted on the SNES.

Does anyone know if Punch-Out supports the pro controller? I know I can play NES style with the Wiimote, but I try to avoid using that horrible controller as much as possible.

That is a super fascinating piece of trivia. I had no idea. Doesn't exactly make me feel better, but... :p

Fun fact: there was supposed to be an unofficial sequel to Punch-Out!! set in outer space. That game was released for the NES as Power Punch II and starred "Mark Tyler," because the publisher didn't want to touch Tyson with a ten foot pole after his rape conviction. Tyler is a dead ringer for Tyson, though, because Mike Tyson is as inseperable from the sport as Hulk Hogan is from pro wrestling.

But yeah, I'm disappointed that Super Punch-Out!! isn't available for the Wii U at a discount. I'll cross my fingers and hope it'll be offered as one of the last Club Nintendo freebies.

Super Punch-Out is one of the games available for coins through the end of the program.

There're five different Punch-Outs available. The original arcade game, released in 1983, the sequel, Super Punch-Out which came out in 1985, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out for the NES in 1987, and while the graphics weren't as good due to the hardware, it pulled fighters from both games along with some originals to fill its roster, and gave us a real tiny little mac since the NES probably couldn't do a wire frame body. The console sequel, Super Punch-Out SNES, is closer to the original arcade games, with a transparent, normal-sized Mac with at least half all new fighters, and some returning from previous outings, including ones from the arcade games not used in the NES game. Then there's the Wii, which uses almost all returning fighters.

Tyson got into some trouble with rape, prison, and he also lost his first fight, so Nintendo didn't renew his contract. Ones released after that feature Mr. Dream, and those cartridges are apparently more valuable because they had a real short production run - as they came near the end of the NES's lifespan.

I seem to remember something about this - I think the plot was he's the greatest champion on Earth, so he has to travel the galaxy and fight aliens to have a challenge.
