I think I'll pick up Metroid Prime Trilogy soon while it's on sale, but does anyone know if the game supports classic controller for the first two games. I want to play the games again, but not with motion controls if at all possible.

I didn't buy Galaxy 2 a couple of weeks ago due to having to use motion controls to play. IMO the motion controls ruin theses otherwise fantastic games, it's just not fun to play when you have to shake and point your controller at the screen to do certain things.

Balls. I'm out. I was hyped too. I got sick of Metroid Prime 3's motion controls real fast.
then you definitely don't want them across all 3 games! When Prime 3 came out everyone raved over the controls and precision they afforded, so updating the first two with them and adding proper wide screen support was a big deal.

Welp, three weeks of sale and I'll have only bought SMG2 and MPT.
......There was something else on sale worth buying?

Nope, motion controls only.

Still downloading but the general consensus is Prime is one of the few times Motion Controls were done properly. They add to immersion and give you more precision than the lock-on targeting the earlier games used. No bullshit waggling like Twilight Princess or DKC Returns.

I wouldn't let it turn you away unless you hate ALL motion controls entirely.

How many times in this thread are people going to ask the same exact question about these games and motion controls?
Until Nintendo realizes we hate motion controls and lets me play Metroid Prime with a Gamecube controller.

In all seriousness though. I figured MP Trilogy was only motion controls, but wanted to ask anyway to annoy you.

You've been able to play Metroid Prime with a GameCube controller for more than 10 years.
Not on my Wii U. I want the trilogy to support other controller options, really just all of the Wii releases to support other controller options. The Wiimote and nunchuck controls have always been cumbersome and more of a hassle than anything.

Don't think I'm going to get MPT. Not a big fan of motion controls. But with the new 3ds coming on the 13th, and the fact that it will be the first one I've owned, mario golf looks pretty tempting.

Sounds like you're asking for GameCube VC, not remakes of Wii games to remove all of the motion control stuff.

Looking forward to playing MPT. Played the first game back in the day and liked it more than I thought I would. I don't usually like FPS games but its Metroid. Never played either of the sequels. Not a big fan of motion controls, but it's not a deal breaker. Glad to have the opportunity to play it at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the update Frisky. Obviously in for Metroid. Tempted to get Stealth Inc 2. Is it exclusive to the Wii U? I really enjoyed the first one on Vita.

I'm kicking myself for not picking up the Wii Remote for $20 at Target a few weeks back. I don't have a way to play MP Trilogy. Anyone know where I could get one cheap besides the Nintendo website? I don't really want to pay and wait for shipping.

For the time being, it's only on Wii U and they haven't talked about other versions, but it's most likely an inevitability as an indie game. They basically took what worked with the original and put it in a Metroid-style shell, so there's an overworld to explore between levels.

The motion controls were such a dramatic improvement to Metroid Prime that I didn't even expect.

After playing through Corruption, going back to analog controls is a little difficult especially for boss fights.

The motion controls in Prime were the best use of the Wii's "gimmick" in my opinion, over games like Skyward Sword and Wii Sports. DCKR and others being absolutely atrocious using waggle mechanics for core gameplay.

Give it a try if you are hesitant, they are definitely the definitive versions of the Prime games.

$10 is insane.

Wiimote and Nunchuck is the only way to play Metroid Trilogy. If you're using anything else you're doing it wrong. :shame: Generally controllers top motion, but theres just no substitute for these games. :nottalking:

Well just started my download of the metroid trilogy. Now I just need fire emblem radiant dawn to release on the eshop. Then I will be filled with joy.

If it has a feature called DRC, turn that off. That is the usual sony culprit for lag. But otherwise just try turning off every video processing feature and switch video modes. There is sometimes a "game" mode.
Nope, no features to speak of. I've been through all the menus. About the only feature it has is an auto backlamp, which is not a very good feature and I've had turned off. Great TV with a great picture, but lag city, obviously not designed for video games unless I'm doing something wrong. One idea I had is to set the Wii U to 480p or 480i mode before playing a VC game, but I doubt that would help. I did set the Wii U to 720p instead of 1080p since my TV's max is 720p. I don't know. I've tried about everything. I'm not sure if it's a problem with any modern games, because they don't lag or are designed with lag in mind I'm not sure. It is definitely a problem with old games, though, maybe because I'm used to how they're "supposed" to play.

That sucks. Usually Sony TVs are pretty decent in the lag department. There's not really much you can do except get a new one. It's the nature of the beast, that TV is probably too old to have a game mode.

If you ever replace it, just Google "Input Lag Database" it should help you in finding a new TV.

It was something I started looking in to, when I was looking hard to replace my DLP TV, but I never really got around to replacing it.
Yeah, it's a great TV, just old I guess. :( I don't think there's anything I'm missing. I feel like I've tried everything.

I don't really want to replace it, because it still works really well, and I might be moving in the next year or two or three, possibly somewhere that it would be difficult to bring a large TV (or any TV) to, so it doesn't make sense to get a nice new 1080p TV with no lag. If I knew I was going to be here, or at least in this country, I'd probably get a new one. Guess I just need to suffer playing stuff on the gamepad.

I'm getting really annoyed with only being able to play Virtual Console games on the gamepad. On my TV, there is just too much lag. Apparently there is even lag on the gamepad, but I guess it's not enough to screw me up (too much?).

On a game like SM3DW, it doesn't bother me, I guess maybe because they're designed with input lag in mind. Or is it just that I'm used to the way the retro games were on the original systems and on CRT TVs? I swear they would be hard for anyone, even someone playing them the first time, because they just flat out require faster reaction time than an HDTV/Wii U will provide.

I guess I would like Nintendo to fix this somehow, or at least acknowledge it exists. I don't know what to do besides get a new TV. Apparently TVs with a "game mode" do not have these issues. I'm sad, because I'm sick of playing them on the gamepad. I don't want to buy a new TV, though. :(

Guess I should have been buying them on 3DS instead. NES Remix is unplayable for me on the TV, okay on gamepad, and much better on 3DS.
It's yout TV, I have a Sharp Aquos and had the same problem. The tv is just an older model and there really isn't any way around the lag. I ended up getting a Sony KDL-60W630B and I can say for sure that the lag is MUCH more reduced and I'm actually able to play Gradius and Super Mario World at a decent level. I have to offset input a little, but it's doable compared to one of my CRTs. New games as you may have noticed have a movement factor that retro games never had. I.E. in Mario 3d World when you start to move his feet start to shuffle and then he gains momentum. In Super Mario Bros for NES, he had momentum but the input on the controller caused him to start in a direction immediately.

So no GBA release this week? Barf.

May consider the Metroid Prime trilogy even though I wasn't super fond of the first one. The price is right, though!

Time to go download another version of Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Thanks CAG for letting me know about these damn sales, generally speaking I don't go to the shop on any console much, unless I want something specific.

My Paypal account hates you all.

Just got my Wii refurb shipment. I got:

Wii Console with Mario Kart - Excellent, like brand new, like the poster here said. No scratches on the console, or on the game disc.

New Super Mario Bros Wii - Now we're getting into a bit of trouble. This one was had a bunch of scratches, all very small, all very light, clustered in a small area, probably occurred during manufacturing. Not too bad, but if I bought it at a store, or Amazon, or through another means where I wouldn't have to pay the shipping, I'd be seriously thinking about exchanging it, maybe. Real good, but not perfect.

Punch-Out - Lots of long scratches, very light, but clearly visible when held up to a naked bulb. Definitely not new, but also nearly impossible to find new and sealed, and this shape or worse is the best I'd likely find it in.

So, these are good, but might not necessarily be equivalent to new and sealed.

Also worth noting, as said in the past, these are marked as refurbs on the packages themselves - not stickers, but actually printed on the inserts themselves. Not a big deal, unless you plan on trading or reselling them down the line.

Picked up Metroid Prime Trilogy, can't really say no at that price.

Releasing these Wii games at $9.99 for the 1st week is one of the smarter things Nintendo has done in a while.

I now hate my Basic Wii U console since I can't download MPT.

So,  I have a question, will a HDD from an old computer work on the thing as long as I have a Y cable? Will there be a problem with speeds or something like that? I'm not very knowledgeable on this type of stuff, so please understand.

I love mine along with all the other white consoles next to it. I use a Seagate 2TB desktop external hard drive for all WiiU storage.

If you are directly pulling a hard drive out of a computer (i.e. you're not using a USB HDD), you will need to purchase some sort of enclosure/adapter. Desktops tend to use 3.5" drives and laptops tend to use 2.5" ones. Solid state drives are out there, but not in most "old" computers.

The enclosure/adapter you want will most likely need to be SATA to USB, like these:
http://www.newegg.com/Hard-Drive-Enclosures/SubCategory/ID-92

Most enclosures include an external power adapter, so you won't need a y-cable for the connection.

Really tempted to double dip/trade out on MK8. My Wii U is all digital with the exception of Mario Kart 8 and Nintendoland. I'll definitely be getting Zelda U physical (only games I own physically are Zelda games), so I want to switch out my Mario Kart 8 physical copy now for digital.

Its TIV at Gamestop is $35, so it'd be an extra $10 out of pocket. Yay or nay?

If you think you'll get $10-worth of play out of MK8 in the future, I say, "yay."

Not sure but did you know you can use a USB stick? That's what I use with my Wii U.

Just a heads up. The TIV at Best Buy is $39 right now with the bonus or $42 with GCU.
