I just got my Wii U 2 days ago so my Wii U backlog is only 2 games. :) Currently playing Super Mario World 3D. Backlogged Nintendo Land and NES Remix Pack. Nintendo backlog is going to grow swiftly what with all the NES, SNES, N64, AND DS games available, and me being an old fogey (in my 40's), nostalgia is big for me. Now the PC(1180), PS3(75), 360(22), PS4(14) backlogs are just brutal. Thankfully I have refrained from an Xbone so far. I oftentimes wonder how many games i'll never actually get to. But there is a certain comfort knowing they are there when and if I want to play them. ;)
Yeah, I don't even want to think about my overall backlog. 360 has to be around at least a hundred games I haven't finished. I've got over a hundred games on Steam when I barely PC game and can't run most of them anyways. Hopefully being light on money keeps my Wii U catalog manageable for a while, but I also started working on Wii games I never finished since it's so convenient, and bought a few dirt cheap ones like No More Heroes 2. Going to grab Paper Mario since I'll have the upgrade option from Club Nintendo too.

I do plan to play everything eventually, except some of the PC Humble Bundle stuff, but it's an uphill battle since I'll play one thing forever.

My Wii U backlog consists of 3 games: Smash, Mario Kart 8 (just got it!) and maybe Super Mario 3D World (damn you preinstalled!).  I might add Don't Starve to it if the price is right when it comes out.

Anyone use a case for storing the GamePad when not in use?

I have dust issues in my apartment even with super cleaning so I was looking at this:

http://www.amazon.com/Tomee-Wii-Protective-GamePad-Nintendo-U/dp/B00ATJIOTG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428855292&sr=8-2&keywords=wii+u+gamepad+case
That looks really nice, but I don't think it'd work for me personally. I pretty much always leave my GamePad in the charging cradle, since its battery never seems to last long. If that's not an issue for you though, it looks like a quality case! I personally like the blue

Too bad the pad doesn't hold a charge for more than a day or two.

Is Watchdogs Wii U worth playing over 360? Thinking about returning my Shiek Amiibo since she's not really rare and I only got her because I thought she would be. That'd cover most of the current Best Buy price.

I bought this recently... http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009Q5XGO2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1429023944&sr=8-1&keywords=Nyko+wiiu+pad

I can't speak for how well it works since I don't play my wiiu all that much to test it out, but it got good reviews which is why I bought it.

Hmm, tempted by Pikmin since its basically not in print anymore. BUT when I sold my old WiiU i obviously lost my save and idk if I want to play through the first half again.

Someone make my decision for me.

Go for it. That game is great from beginning to end.

Nintendo released an update for Smash. Eight stages got 8-player Smash support, you can upload replays and screens to Miiverse, and a DLC shop was added.

Love the dlc. Great value if you are a fan of the game and want more of a challenge. Getting those platinum medals is no joke.

I'd try out the challenge mode and free dlc and if that is your cup of tea the bundle is even more challenging.

Meant to post this earlier. Is Captain Toad a good buy at $27.99 or should I hold out hope of the physical copy ever having a sale? Would be only $4 more right now thanks to GCU.

I haven't played it yet but I'm sticking with my physical copy since a lot of first party Nintendo stuff has been going out of print after like a year this generation.

I'm extremely tempted to pick up Pikmin 3 and Capt Toad, but I may just go get a physical copy of Captain Toad. Also, If I haven't played any of the previous pikmin games, would I be fine just picking up on 3, or should I try and play the first two?

There's no benefit to playing the first two Pikmin games before the new game. You can play them later if you want more Pikmin goodness.

I'm still not sold on DS games on Wii U. Just looks awkward and kind of ugly.

I was looking forward to them too when they were announced. Not sure what I was really expecting though, not much you could do with them. Maybe I'll wait for some sort of DS games sale on the eshop.

Ooo the new MK8 stuff is out? Sucks that it took so long but its also kind of nice since I had entirely forgotten about it. Will be a nice excuse to boot up the game this weekend.

amiibo tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits - Free

Paper Mario - N64 - $9.99 -

The amiibo tap thing seems like a weird demo-focused version of NES Remix featuring amiibo figures.

Isn't that the thing where your Amiibos let you play "highlighted scenes" of classic NES games? The thing which no one quite understands the point of other then making another thing to get people to craze Amiibos for no apparent reason.

How it works is that you tap an Amiibo on the GamePad and it'll ask to register it, which I don't know if this is specific to the app or if it's because I don't have Super Smash Bros. or Mario Party 10. Then it gives you a present that is a classic NES or SNES game that you can play a series of three minute scenes from it.

It may be related to the Amiibo you tap on it or it could be random, as my Wind Waker Link gave me The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past while Zelda gave me Metroid. A Link to the Past included scenes like the beginning where you venture out to the castle to get your sword/shield and a couple of boss fights. Metroid brings up the first area where you get the ball morph ability. It seems like you can do as much as you can fit in that three minutes, so it may not be limited to a specific part of the game besides when the scene starts. The amount of scenes varies depending on the game, as ALTTP has nine scenes and Metroid have four scenes. To switch to the next scene, you just tap the amiibo on the GamePad again. If you let the timer run out, it goes back to the main menu and not a new scene. After you register the amiibo, you can just tap it on the GamePad to bring up that game again since you can't tap the game's icon on the screen to play the scenes again.

It's pretty cool as an easy way to demo the game to friends or show off cool parts of these games to friends, but there's not much else to it from what I can tell.

Oh nice, I just did the Wii transfer and was wondering when Paper Mario would land in the eshop.

Gamepad compatibility here I come!

Now I just need them to add Star Fox 64 and Mario RPG.

If you registered it with Smash or Mario Party, it uses that profile.

The games selected are random. Captain Falcon gave me Link to the Past, Luigi gave me F-Zero, and Zelda gave me Kirby's Dream Course.

I guess that's a relatively OK way to demo some of those old games there's no other way to try out. Assuming you already have a stack of Amiibos.

I just got an email from Nintendo doing there's a Splatoon "demo" (server test beta really) going down 5/8-5/9. Says download it and play 5/8 8-9 PM PT, 5/9 4-5 AM PT, and 5/9 12-1 PM PT.

Really weird and limited times.

I think you are looking at 8 hour intervals around the world. NA for the top one, Asia for the second, and Europe for the 3rd.

Looks like they want to see volume at those specific night time hours in each region.

Heck, I am just glad that they are doing network beta testing.
