By now everyone knows that the Wii is not region free, but fret not. I imported all of the Naruto games on gamecube and had to order a boot disk (Freeloader) to get them to with my gamecube. Got my Wii tonight (I am loving this system so far) and decided to test out my import games. The didnt work using them alone, but I used freeloader and now my import games work on my Wii as if they were on my Gamecube.

Word of caution: I inserted the freeloader disk, and selected it from the disc channel, the system read it and restarted. Went back to the disc channel again, selected the freeloader and the system took me to the normal freeloader screen and asked me to swap the disk like normal. I am assuming that the freeloader disc needs to be in the system from the start, or it may restart after the first read. Either way it works, and I will be trading in my gamecube tomorrow.

I'll check in a minute. I'm too tired to move at the moment.

Confirmed. The disc needs to be inserted before the system is turned on. So insert Freeloader, turn system off, turn system on, load Freeloader. You're good to go then!

Not working for me. I guess mine's too scratched up.

My freeloader doesn't work either.
For the people it does work for, have you guys updated your Wiis yet? I was thinking maybe in the initial online update that Nintendo could have blocked the Freeloader.

The freeloader I have has tiny little plastic feet things around the center. This won't interfere?

edit: Eh, mine won't work either. Good thing I kept my Gamecube.

Just a heads up, bumping this up, move it to another thread if needed.

I had version 1.06B of the freeloader. That did not work in the Wii. I just got the version that promised it would work in the Wii today in the mail from Play Asia. Works perfectly. It's v. 1.06b. Got Naruto 4 running with no problems (even inserted the disc after the console had booted), it ran in progressive scan, it's all good.

So, the freeloader they're selling at PlayAsia right now, while a tad pricey, will work with your Wii to play import GC games.

The action replay disc ver 1.14 works also and has built in freeloader. It will even boot the Advance Game Port disc, but the hardware portion of it wont work.

So they're the same version number, but one works and one doesn't? Couldn't that just be luck of the draw?

Yeah my version with B doesn't work in my Wii. Kinda sucks but I hardly use my import games and it gives me a reason to keep my cube around.

I'd like to see a universal freeloader so I can play import Wii titles too...hopefully that's possible.

They're making a Wii specific freeloader. Whether it works with Gamecube games remains to be seen. Hopefully it will. Furthermore, I'd love it to be a dongle rather then a boot disc as I don't have four friends to play Naruto with.

It's probably also worth noting that on the bottom of the disc, where "1.06b" is stamped it also says, "GAMECUBE + WII"
My Action Replay seems to be working as well. I just booted up Nintendo Puzzle Collection with no problems.
Yeah, I've had the same results.
I've got an older version of the Action Replay too.
