Yeah, try the Wiimote out at an EB (or GC - they just leave them sitting on the counter, no need to check it out with a Driver's Licence

).
However, I think you will hear from 95% of the people on this site that the remote works better than anyone anticipated. It is very intuitive and very cool to use (especially the perfect way it 'rumbles' as it passes over icons in the menus - you have to try it to know what I'm talking about).
So I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it, in any case.
Just to be fair about the price comparisons. OK, when I figured the $100 before for GC + Zelda I was figuring he'd get a used GC. So let's go all new this time:
GC + Zelda + memory card: $170
Wii + Zelda + memory card + regular GC controller: $340
Still, I think the Wii is well worth the extra expense (comes with Wii Sports, can play Wii games - duh, Virtual Console, Internet, Weather channel, etc).
Of course, most people here would suggest getting a Wavebird controller ($30 or $35) for EITHER system. Having wires hooked up to your otherwise wireless Wii is an insult

(not to mention the chance you might yank it off the shelf is well worth the extra for the Wavebird). Of course, I feel having any GC stuff hooked into the top of it, including Wavebird receivers, ruins its aesthetics. I just use my GC for GC games.
