Ahhhh then why can't I? Someone else also told me I would be able to but the game stutters every few seconds. Please help... does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?? I really don't like this happening after spending so much money.

Could be a myriad of things... PC gaming isn't as straight forward as console games.

And what resolution are you playing at, that's important to. You could play maxed out at one resolution but have issues at higher resolutions.

1440x900

I just tested a bunch of the settings and it seems that the main thing that is slowing the game down for me is shadows. If I turn all settings as high as they go and turn shadows off, the performance test says I average 50 fps. But then change it and put shadows on High, and all of a sudden my average is is 27 with a low of 10.

Any ideas on what I can do?

I have the latest drivers. And running in the background is just normal vista stuff, i'm not downloading stuff or anything. Memory usage is only at 30%

Make sure you have the latest ATI drivers(new ones every month), game updates(there is a large-ass patch for CoH). Sound, chipset driver and windows updates also matter. Also do a virus scan, adware scan and a spyware scan. Then do a registy cleaning with CCleaner and then defrag. All of those should help.

I have a 4850 with 4GB RAM with a Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz and the game runs on max just fine at 1650x1050. You should be fine too. But I am using Vista 32 not 64. So that could be an issue.

Honestly I would put my money on the video drivers and the game updates. Try uninstalling the game and reinstalling then patching. Also try uninstall the drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling the newest ones.

The computer is brand new and company of heroes is the first thing I ever did on it. I put the game in, it automatically installed 2 patches, but I still have the problem. All my other drivers are up to date as well. My graphics card driver is from 7/3/08. Sound and vista and everything is up to date as well.

Any other ideas....? :(

To give you an idea, I have nearly the same setup as you. It's an [email protected] GHz (it will do 3.2, but even at 2.56, I don't notice a difference over stock in CoH), 4 GB RAM, Vista Ultimate x64, and an HD4850 at stock settings. I use 1280x768 instead of 1680x1050 because I can't tell the difference, and the former runs much better. I have everything maxed out, including 8x AA. I don't have DX10 on because the difference is ever so slight, but the frame rate tanks. With the setting I have, I get a minimum of 46 FPS, and the average is 77.

What are the recommended specs on the box for CoH anyway? Saw a few at Target the other day (though knowing my luck, they probably got snagged already). Not a PC gamer, so I'm still on a 9800Pro.

Recommended:
P4 3.0 GHz
1 GB RAM
256 MB Geforce 6800

Personally, I would never play the game on a system like that. 1 GB doesn't cut it, and a 6800 isn't exactly speedy. I suppose it depends on what resolution you want to play at and what your expectations are.

I used an Athlon 64 3400+, 1 GB RAM, and an x850 pro to play this game and it ran well at medium settings. I also tried to play it on a 9800 pro but it was fairly bad. That actually might have been the reason I upgraded to the x850 in the first place.

I just built a lower end system with a 7200 and 2 gig of ram and can't run it at max settings. Although OP besides just knowing you can I would ask is it that big of deal? The gameplay is what makes this game great IMO. I can't say enough good about this game.
