Will I find a better TV than this for the price?

There's a 46" Aquos and Samsung LCD on there for about $1000. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

That's certainly a good price considering you won't pay shipping or sales tax (both of which could be quite costly depending on where you're from). And Panasonic is about the best in the standard plasma game right now. You could step into a 42" or so LED-LCD for about the same price probably, but for my choice I'd take the extra size (and I still find a good plasma has better color if set right even over LED). The only issue would be lighting in the room you'd be putting it in.

Edit: It's also important to note that people can literally see things very differently. I wouldn't blind buy on something like this unless you really have to. I'd go to to a Best Buy or whatnot and compare at least similar models from the same manufactuers if you can.

It depends on what your trying to do...if your gaming then plasma no doubt....otherwise LCD...I have a 50" Viera and I'm in love with it...stunning picture as well as no lag time while playing fast video games such as MW2 etc....more info and I'll give more input! :)
Plasmas use up a lot of energy and electricity but have a beautiful picture. I prefer the LCD or LED (LED more expensive). I would look at one of these options.

These are the 'newer' models. They don't use as much energy and are supposed to last quite a bit longer. I have a Panasonic Plasma and love it. I wouldn't have any problems with a Samsung LCD either... all nice tv's.

Dell has a problem with taking tons of orders and canceling orders weeks later so I would probably go retail / Newegg / Amazon...

Seriously? IMO it's the other way around. Game playing, go LCD. Movie watching? Plasma.

LCD's have a delay in gaming from what I have noticed from my gaming experience...I even played on a 2ms Samsung and noticed a lag...plasma is cheaper and overall higher quality

What about a mix of both?

I'm sure I am similar to most people around here as I spend a good amount of time doing both :D
Looking for a good TV under the $1,000 mark. Would prefer 46-50"

What do you guys think? No tax and free shipping is also pretty nice.

Would you guys suggest going the plasma route or LCD? Or possibly a smaller LED-LCD? (I prob spend half my time playing games and the other half watching tv/movies on my TV)

THanks a lot
Hey, I have this tv hooked up to my PS3/360. Of course it looks great.
While burn-in is not so much a problem any more, make sure you first put 150 hours on it with this:
http://www.webapalooza.com/plasma/.
Plamas have more reflection than LCDs, so if there is a lot of sunlight coming in through the windows, think about LCD.
Also be aware that the Panasonic U model is a new 'cheaper' model than the S, G, and Z models, they are all 1080p, but the U doesn't have the full 1080p vertical resolution. Read up some more on avs here:

I really don't think you can go wrong with LCD. They might not have as deep of blacks or as bold of colors, but with the right settings, you probably won't even notice. In all honesty though, either way you'll be playing/watching in HD, and it will be awesome, haha.

You should do some research and look into other factors, like how much light your viewing area will have; smaller details like that. I'm not 100%, but I think plasmas are meant to be watched in darker environments.

Not me, I would go 1080p all the way....get something you're gonna be happy with for a while (especially if you're spending almost a $1000 on something). If you are gonna throw down over $900 on a TV you should get one with full Hi-Def. 720p is allright, but if you have a TV over 40", you will notice the difference between 1080p and 720p. I do when I watch a movie in 720p vs. 1080p. To me, I dont think it is worth it to sacrifice picture quality for only $300...I think it is worth the additional $300 to be truly happy with your purchase. :))

I have a 47" 1080p LCD and I love it. I would stick with LCD (or LED if you can afford it) and stay away from Plasma. Plasma looks pretty good, but they are not as reliable as LCD/LED, and as mentioned by someone above, they consume more power. ;-)

Can i keep DVDs around these tvs or will they mess them up

i got 2 stacks of dvd moveis on both sides of my box tv .. if i got flat screen will the heat coming off the tv mess up the dvds

Turkle, you had it right the first time. A Panasonic plasma has one of the best pictures in the business. Now you have a thread here with a bunch of ignorant noobs who shop at Walmart throwing out cheap tvs even Kenny would pass on.

lol, alrighty.

however I don't think I am going to purchase that one off newegg. They raised the price and I am looking at some of the newer models.

I went to best buy today and I looked at these two:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panason...1979&skuId=9788953&st=panasonic g20&cp=1&lp=1

I guess these are the newer 2010 models, both of them seemed pretty similar though so I am probably leaning towards the cheaper one.

Does anyone have any experience on these models or the similar ones from last year? Thanks :D
ew: Sharp 47" 1080p Widescreen LCD HDTV for $699 + free shipping

Ending today, Dell Home has the Sharp 47" 1080p Widescreen LCD HD Television, model no. LC-47SB57UT, for $699 with free shipping. That ties last week's mention as the lowest total price we could find, this time by $269. Sales tax is added where applicable. Features include a 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution, 450 cd/m2 brightness, 6.5ms response time, four HDMI inputs, and VGA, component, and other video inputs.

The Price is right
I wish I could find some more info on this TV, i tried looking around but couldn't find any reviews or anything. When I was at BB i looked at some LCD's , I was much more impressed with the picture quality of the plasma's though. $699 is damn cheap though.

I would probably go with a plasma over an LCD if I could choose, I hate the ghosting/motion blur on many lcds, but I'd also be afraid of burn in on a plasma if you play games on it.

I have a 60" Mitsu DLP. Best tv I have ever owned, you just cant beat the price for its size.
I watch blu-rays, tv, and 360 games on it and it is just beautiful( and I consider myself a moderate videophile).
No motion blur or burn in problems at all either, and its 3D ready. If you have the room I would definitely recommend one. If you search around you can find em for $999 quite often.

If you are looking at panasonic plasmas, go with this and use bing too, but better hurry, this deal ends on April 6.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A3520796 - (50" S2 for $999 + tax + free ground shipping)

Also, the newegg model you posted now has a $100 off coupon. And if you find a target that still has these (the 50U1), they are clearanced out. of course, it's been on clearance for over a month so chances of finding one are slim.

As for the argument of LCD vs. Plasma, I was uneducated and touted the LCDs too, until I got a 50" 1080p Samsung plasma. I have 2 Sony LCD TVs, 1 Panasonic LCD, and the Samsung Plasma. The picture quality is NOT EVEN CLOSE. The Samsung plasma takes it by far!

Thanks for the info I was looking at that same model $150 more at best buy.

And where do you see that $100 coupon? Thanks

G > S > U
The differences are pretty small though, but they are there.

Not sure how long it is good for - EMCYRYZ73.

Not sure how long it is good for - EMCYRYZ73. I would still recommend that S2 for $999, it is a great price considering it's a 2010 model if you were sticking to your original budget of $1000 (I'm assuming).

Also, the only way that burn-in is going to affect you is if you leave the game on pause for a long time with the tv on. Now image retention is another thing, but with these newer plasmas, it will go away and won't be as bad once you break it in. I'm shocked so many people are scared to play games on plasma. That's all I do and I haven't had one issue.
