Will this speaker set give me true 5.1 on x-box?

I bought this over a year ago. for 100 bucks and at that price it was a deal.. Overall Im very happy DVD sound good. 5.1 sounds good.. and it can get plenty loud.. keep an eye out for this one if they ever get them in stock.. Im very pleased with my system.

Just make sure whatever system you get has an "Digital Audio" input. there are 2 types. Optical also Known as "Toslink" and Coaxial.. I think The Xbox only has an adapter for the Optical.. you need to buy that sepreately. it replaces the RCA cables that come out of your xbox basically.. Good Luck that system I have a link to has Optical Audio input :D

Also Supernothing...thanks for the heads up...i'm almost leaning more towards that solution...my buddy has a set similar to that and with movies it sounds really nice and on a budget you can't really beat one of those Home Audio kit dealy's.

No problem. The set I linked to above was still listed as $237 in store. I asked if I could get it for the price online because it was $199 and he said no because it was probably an online special. I asked him to check the price and it rang up $199. So if you decide on that one it should be $199 in store and online.

that seems like a good price for that system...tomorrow I maybe making a purchase...other thing i was wondering is there anyway to get that optical cable for cheaper...28 bucks or what not seems a little pricey

Look for open box items. I'm sure it's cheaper elsewhere, or online, but I wanted mine right away.

yeah..i agree..something I'm not that familar with I would like to buy in a store rather then online....plus the return policy is simple in B&M....

just an update for anybody still following this thread

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1077627972485&skuId=6414524&type=product

bought that system for my room...everything else seems to work fine OTHER then sometimes when playing x-box games i get a "cackling" sound in my left front speaker...odd is that it only happens when playing x-box games and only sometimes...doing anything else on the system and it's fine..i'm not sure what to do!!!

anybody have any ideas what could be making that sound?!?!?!?

thanks for all the help with everybody who posted in the thread[/u]

That's the same system I bought and I have no problem with with cackling. I would check the wiring. Be sure you don't have the rear surround speakers and front left/right speakers in the wrong place. That's about all I can think of right now.

Yeah, check the wiring.....glad you went with a home theatre rather than the Logitech speakers.

$200 is not bad for that system....good stater system,

I would've saved up a bit more if I were you, but I understand we are all on budgets.

Circuit City has an ONKYO 6.1 system that many rave about for $500

Yea the ONKYO is good (I'm saving up for it) but it takes awhile to save up $300 (or $500 if you just started) That system will hold you for awhile then if you want you can upgrade.

I have a Sony 5.1 stereo setup in my bedroom that I use for DVDs. The only problem is that the 5.1 is through 6 RCA cables. You can only get 5.1 if your DVD player has a built-in decoder (which mine has). The closest I can get to 5.1 currently is Dolby ProLogic II. Is there any way I can hook up my Xbox for true 5.1.

I really don't want to buy a new stereo setup for my bedroom. In my living room, I do have a home theater setup, and that was a big blow to my wallet, so you know why I'm hesitant to change my setup in the bedroom.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

ummm i think you can get a dolby recever if you already have the speakers, i think i saw one for like $150 at best buy but that is pretty expensive.

i fixed the problem..it was the av pack for the x-box...took it back got another one and it was fine..it only happened when i played x-box games?!??!

You will need a receiver to decode the 5.1 dolby. If you get the Monster A/V cables or component cables there is a jack on the cable to plug into the receiver. Just make sure the receiver has optical inputs.
