CAGiversary!
thanks Im wondering if microsoft may not lower the price of the xbox even though the 360 is coming out this fall, since they are already losing money on it. theres a few games (metal slug , samurai showdown V) id like to get for it but i dont want to pay 149.00 and i want a ps2 to play god of freaking war!

I'd say the PStwo will drop for sure this Christmas to try and undercut the 360 sales. I doubt the Xbox would drop. At least, not until the 360 is on shelves.

Unless the sales of both systems enough to warrent a price drop I'd say the fall at the earliest.

Absolutely no way to tell. I can give you 5 reasons for and 5 reasons against it happening. All you can do is wait and see.

Prime time for price moves would be after E3 or this xmas.

$129.99 Bob

The systems have dropped in price every year at E3 since 2002, so I think like others suggested, a $129 price drop is probably going to happen. I'm really hoping for a $99 price drop but am not expecting it (need a new XBox)

Smells like $129 for Xbox and PS2, and MAYBE $79.99 for Cube....MAYBE...

If PS2 drops to $129, I will be sure to pick one up, with a 10 year warranty.

Remove the old hd and transfer with old. Or use memory card, action replay, that is if you can still turn it on.

Same here.
I really want to get a Slim PS2 to take to Japan with me, but anything over $100 is a wee bit steep (seeing how I already have a PS2 w/HDD). But I may cave at $129...

Also, I wonder if Sony will announce an official version of this:

Have you checked the power conversion for Japan? Also, youll be tied to Region 1 if you get it here.

Also, why on earth buy here if you are going to Japan?!!! Have you seen the kick a$$ options and variety they have over there?

Because he wont be able to play any games he brought in the US?

As for the op want to get a xbox because of samurai showdown V, you are going to be so disapointed.

Well I actually plan on getting a Japanese slim PS2 also, lol. I'm hoping Sony releases a silver one like they did in Europe.

I just want something to play my US games on (I plan on importing the US version of Kingdom Hearts 2 if it comes out while I'm over there.....wow that sounds weird.....importing a US game? haha) and I'm not to keen on modding my consoles. And plus this way I'll be able to watch both Region's DVDs.

As for the power conversion, I thought all US electronics worked fine, but the voltage is less or something (so you have to charge batteries longer, for example). Anyone know what the deal is?

I think Japan and US use similar voltage, similar enought that a convertor is not neccessary. I use my Japanese PS2 in a US power outlet without any problems.

I cant remember but yes, things are different. Not as bad as say Germany vs the US but Japan isnt just plug it in and go.

Not a good idea for the long life of your console. Close counts in horseshoes NOT power conversion.

Japan 100v/50-60Hz

USA 120V/60Hz

As you can see you not only need to step DOWN the voltage, but also adjust the frequency in many cases.

Unless of course you like your electronics crispy.

i like mine original recipe.. i was thinking of getting a straight up modded one for that purpose.. but that isn't smiled on talking about it around here. you know with the piracacy and all.. but yeah.. i'd be too busy playing that cool Mario Kart GP at the arcades in Jap then kingdom hearts

I would pretty much guarantee the PS2 will follow the PS1 price path, eventually going down to $50 and eliminating th ePS1 as a product. (The PS1 may be discontinued sooner than that but there is no way it will continue once the price match up.) Sony can probably move another 15 million PS2's as the lower price makes it accessable in more regions.

The Xbox is another story. Microsoft doesn't own the chipset and doesn't have the freedom apply the traditional die shrink and integration methods to reducing cost of the chipset and supporting hardware. Forbes has already run a piece stating Microsoft was on the verge of buying their last batch of chips from Nvidia for the final production run of Xbox1 units. They already take a big hit on each Xbox sold and cannot offer a price drop without making the deficit even worse. At the current price they may have hit the limit on how much can be accepted for subsidizing hardware sales.

This adds more interest to the issue of backward compatibility. If Xbox 360 is to be more successful than its predecessor many buyers will not be previous Xbox owners. Although they never saw fit to buy an Xbox it would be hoped that plenty of Xbox titles hold some appeal in PH form if they can be run on the new machine, not to mention major titles that will still be topping the charts when 360 launches. Having no venue to offer those consumers other than a good deal ona used Xbox and a video switch isn't a good prospect.

Xbox will probably be discontinued and replaced by 360 ASAP. Retailers will probably discount it untill they are all sold out.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden is definitely worth it. I got it for a steal at $3.50 after I traded in Star Fox Adventures and a couple of old ps1 games with the blockbuster trade 3 get any used game for $10.

Yes if PS2 drops to $129.99 which I'm sure it will after E3... MS will drop their price.

If sony does not drop the price I predict that MS will not either.

At Christmas I predict Sony will drop the price to $99.99 Xbox 1 will be $99.99 The Xbox 2 will be sold out everywhere at $299.

I have a feeling the removable hard drive will be sold as part of a bundle for $399.

Just my guess. MS probably hasn't decided for sure what they are doing yet. I bet they have a decision tree made up to react to changes from Sony.

WHAT no price drops. Didnt they tell of prices drops the last 2 years before E3 started. dont look good to see one this year. I think they would break out E3 with price drops then wait till its over and say 20 buck price drop when everyone is leaving

I would take AFI out of your sig and place morning glory in its place if I were you.
yeah i need a xbox, just so i can play ninja gaiden.
Basically the only games on XBOX that interest me are ninja gaiden, fable and KOTOR.

I am hoping for a price drop on Xbox. I refuse to pay more than $100 for a new one so a drop to $130 or so would be a step in the right direction. I can't imagine them keeping the price at $150 once the 360 comes out.
I guess not. E3 has end but no price drop. Forget it, I'm getting the PSTWo today, been waiting since last year.
lol, have fun with it!!

I was told in another thread that since Nvidia is working on PS3 that Microsoft has stopped production of the Xbox so that means that there probably isn't to many more shipments of the system coming down the line.
