Windows Movie Maker - ran out of memory, the heck?

I finally recorded some gameplay videos so I can upload them to youtube, and I tried to splice them in Movie Maker - but the program keeps complaining that it ran out of memory.

Which makes no sense. I have a gig and a half of RAM. There's lots of space in the hard drive. The internet isn't helping, so I figured maybe someone here knows what's going on. I didn't have this problem before... so why now?

I had this problem. I dont know what caused it. Reformatting was the only thing that fixed it completely.

In my experience, the cause has been too many junk background programs running. They gobble up a lot of memory, then Windows blames your video program as the culprit. I would disable as many unnecessary programs as possible, such as auto-updaters, taskbar programs that start automatically when starting Windows, etc. Also run Spybot.

But I only have my friggin antivirus on!

(And yes, I do have Spybot, I run it every so often and there's no garbage in my system. What the Shaq-Fu!)

it's a memory leak. I have 2 gigs of ram and I get that from time to time. It's a no frizzles movie maker. The only time I use it is when I capture analog to digital :( But then my capture device gets fussy at times and LOVES to reboot my machine/bsod it :(

It seems that it was a codec issue. I recorded this video with my gamebridge, then converted it to AVI so I could load it in WMM - but it caused the whole out of memory error.

I installed another program and it ran the video fine. I do agree it might be a RAM issue, though, this stupid rig is old and I'm overdue for an update. Thanks, either way. :)

Quite frankly I think that Movie Maker is a pretty crap program, I might actually delete it off my hard drive. It constantly crashes if it doesn't like a certain codec or if you add too much stuff and you have to like save every second.

Besides, it's a hassle to get all those problems fixed and I know that not all of us can afford a state of the art program like Premiere so I'd just recommend some sort free alternative that works just like movie maker, if not better. But yeah if any of you have no problems with it then good.

Well, I got a copy of Magix Movie Edit Pro 12 for $3 off a local store. It works, it's a bit sluggish with MPEG files but it's good with other formats.

I want to record some Youtube videos (gee, what a surprise, haha) and Movie Maker was the only alternative I had until I found this other program. I can't record with it because my computer sucks, but it's good for editing at least.
