It's a design flaw in the Qualcomm chip that powers current WP8 devices. Any graphically intense game or one that uses the internet connection constantly will cause the phone to heat up - even simple games like UNO. And some WP7 games do it too. It IS safe to play Order & Chaos Online or whatever (I've put countless hours into it), but you need to manage your playtime and not overdo it.
Thanks, I'll have to try it out again. Maybe limit myself to 20 minutes at a time, but that might be hard with an MMO.

Zombie, I'm sorry to hear your phone got baked! It's weird, I've played games for hours on end since I got the 920 and I've never damaged my phone. I guess if it got hot enough I would let it rest though, seldom as that has happened. You tried actually paying Nokia for repairs?
Thankfully, it's my wife's phone and not mine, so at least I'm not personally effected. It still sucks, though. We would usually play on her phone for no more than 20-30 minutes at a time, but our son played with it for a while and then he left it on while doing something else. I'm not sure if he was playing a game or watching cartoons (he turned 3 last month and was already a pro at using the phone), but I remember that it was frozen when we noticed it. I tried sending it into Nokia because it should still be under warranty, but they sent it back with two letters, one stating that the warranty doesn't cover physical damage (seems like a gray are for this situation) and one stating that the phone is no longer under warranty. I was under the impression that they would be able to give me an estimate for repair costs while they had it, but I guess I'll have to send it in again for that.

Have you heard a lot of reports of phones overheating to the point of breaking? I got a 1020 a couple weeks ago and it gets hot really really fast when playing games. Even ones like Uno & Friends, where you'd think it wouldn't take as much power. After a few minutes of Order & Chaos trial, I couldn't even touch the phone. People ingame suggested getting a case so I wouldn't have to touch the burning hot fun, but I don't think I should be playing a game that gets that hot in the 1st place.
Overheating appears to be a very common problem and a lot of people claim that turning off NFC fixes it. Others claim that it has to do with some apps constantly trying to update. So far, I haven't seen anyone claiming that their phone has actually overheated to the point of no longer working.

So it sounds like Microsoft bought Nokia's phone division.

I guess it's a sign that MS is serious about the smartphone market, which is good.  But I don't like how MS has handled certain things about Windows Phone, namely gaming, so I'm hesitant to say they'll do a good job with Nokia.

Let me say that Implode is a horrible game. In theory it sounds like a great idea, but the actual implementation and game mechanics are horrible. There are many levels where I knew EXACTLY what I needed to do (via screenshots posted on the web), yet it took me 15 minutes of moving 1 bomb in basically the same spot just hoping that moving it a hair in one direction or another would trigger a different result. It doesn't make sense, it doesn't require skill, and it's definitely not fun. Avoid, and play something more fun like Pocket God.....yes it's that bad.

I'm hoping the Nokia acquisition leads to much better things for Windows Phone, but realistically, I think Microsoft will screw it up.

I thought Implode was decent. I am following the same screenshot guide and know what you mean about the bomb placement. On many levels where the guide was not working, I tried something completely different and it has worked, so there are multiple solutions to most levels. But yes, I agree that it does suck when you have a near perfect set-up and a block just stays barely above the blast line forcing you to replay the same level over and over again for 20 minutes. I'll agree with it being a good idea with some bad implementation.

Implode kinda sucks, but I'd take it over Pocket God still.

I didn't play with any screenshots or anything, I just grinded out as many achievements as I could and called it a day.

Yep. Pocket God was somewhat underwhelming. Fun for maybe the first five minutes but boring after. Here's hoping Thursday brings better deals.

Quick question, does anyone know if there is a way to backup, or transfer, game saves and text messages?

Modern Combat 4 is DOTW at $2.99. Tempting. I didn't much care for the controls so it was a definite pass @ $6.99. Anyone here with firsthand experience that can comment on the campaign and/or multiplayer community?

The campaign in Modern Combat 4 is great and there is no multiplayer community. This of course is due to the poor matchmaking and lack of chat. Check out my review for more details.

Sucks because half the Achievements are multiplayer only. But you can quickly boost all but one or two with a friend.

So I can understand matchmaking being much better on Android or iOS but do they support voice chat as well?

LOL. Gameloft never learn. I managed to do the "change time" trick in Six Guns. It's worthless though because of the crappy rewards and the limited inventory slots.

Yeah, the other platforms support voice chat. Thing that many developers don't understand about multiplayer modes is you have to have a lobby system in which players can sit around and hang out while they wait for new opponents. If there's no communication, a waiting player has nothing to do and thus won't wait around. They'll go do something else instead.

Also, iOS and Android have way more potential players AND the game goes on sale for 99 cents sometimes. Hence more people playing in the first place. But this sale is a good thing. I'd just expect to mostly have to set up matches outside of the game rather than finding a lot of public matches.

Modern Combat 4 is the DOTW

BulletAsylum is $1.  Not even sure I'd recommend it for that price.

One of these days MS is going to get another dollar from me on WP.  One of these days........

These dollar deals have been horrible of late. I should've saved the 3-4 dollars I spent on these terrible games and picked up a nice $5 game instead. I am almost ready to break down and get PvZ for full price.

Good guide. I'll have to give it a more thorough read later. I may have to purchase some gold at some point, because my current equipment is not cutting it anymore. Werewolves are just destroying me.

I'm curious what weapon you're using? I am still rocking the basic (fully upgraded) carbine. Its great for taking out normal bandits and demons, but like I said it's useless against werewolves and those metal enemies.

Thanks man. I'm using the Longshot Repeater 1887 rifle, which cost 18,500 gold if I recall. It has made life a lot easier since it does like 35 damage on most hits.

If you just want to grind up to a better weapon, I find the Fort Malanoche quest (lower right corner of Arizona) is pretty easy to grind. Enemies don't start appearing behind you until the 30s, so until then you're unlikely to take excessive damage. Even the Dragon Revolver is good enough to get you up to that point.

Just curious, what's the install size for Where's my Water 2?

The app states that it should be 76 MB, but when I install it, it's really 760 MB. Yeouch!

Sonic 4 Episode 1 is $2.  It's probably a nice enough port, but I really don't care for Sonic games at all, so I didn't really care for it.

I'm very happy with Angry Birds Star Wars 2. Even though it's episodes 1-3, it is still a huge improvement from the first ABSW. I'm surprised that they are still finding ways to keep the game fresh. When I saw the news that it came out a day early on WPC, I didn't believe it. Made my day.

There aren't as many levels as other AB games, but I'm sure they will come with time. Rovio does a great job delivering post launch content for several months (or in some cases years) after launch.

I was most excited to see that it was Xbox enabled.  Maybe a sign that their certification process is becoming simpler.  But more than likely Rovio just knew to submit it early OR got special treatment since it's Angry Birds.

I bought Angry Birds Star Wars II but haven't played yet.  Does it really have achievements linked on XBL?  I haven't seen the list posted, but sure enough it says it's an Xbox title.

X360A just added the list http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/angry-birds-star-wars-2/achievements/.

I was able to get 14/20 140/200 from playing through the game once and doing 2 or 3 bonus reward levels. There is finally an achievement tracker in this one. Also has in-game non Xbox achievements as well.

What does this mean that I can buy it on my phone and then play on XBOX for cheap?
Not exactly sure what you are asking. Windows Phone has games that have Xbox achievements. Many of the games are only available for mobile devices. A couple are also available on XBLA, but you have to buy them separately.

Hey, EastX, thanks for your solid and continuous Windows Phone coverage!  I am seriously loving this phone and this os.  Being a recent adopter, I'm now backtracking with reviews and what-not.

Angry Birds Star Wars II is surprisingly engrossing!  I haven't been into an AB game for a long while, but they really did find new ways to make it fresh.  Kudos to Rovio.

Just thought I'd chime in to say I got an insurance upgrade from a Lumia 900 to a 920 earlier this week. I was getting super pissed at the lack of new apps on WP7, but I've been quite pleased to find what's available on WP8. Everything runs so much faster with the extra RAM too. Not sure how much longer I'll stick with WP, but this will at least keep me happy until next summer when I'm due for my next upgrade.

I'm glad you like the coverage. It makes me really happy that somebody here at CAG besides Tyler and Ooga reads it. Not that those two don't count! They count extra.

Congrats dude; that's quite an awesome insurance replacement. Let us know which WP8 games you end up getting into.
