Just wanted to pop in and say my 1520 arrived.

Liking it a lot so far, size isn't as big of an issue as I might have worried it to be. Aside from not being able to type with one hand anymore, it seems fine and I'm sure I will adjust even better as I use it more.

Screen looks amazing, and the screen size works wonders for browsing, playing games, and watching Youtube. Haven't gotten much into gaming yet but I played a bit of Snes8x and it worked well. Been downloading all of the free games Nokia offered so I can't wait to jump into them, and I also picked up Rayman Jungle run and Jetpack Joyride.

Updated phone to WP8.1 and aside from not being able to connect to wifi (Which a soft reset fixed) it seems to be very stable.

King's Bounty: Legions is free on WP, cross-platform with PC, Facebook, iOS, and Android
Do you know if that is the first game to be cross-platform with all those devices? If it is, hopefully it will not be the last.

Having a little trouble with Lumia 1020 8.1, but hopefully nothing serious. It turned off in my pocket and backpack a few times. This never happened until 8.1. One time it turned off a few seconds after I took it off the charger and showed a low battery icon. It took about a minute before it would turn back on again. Battery was at 75%.

Settings>(swipe) Applications> Cortana > Search Settings

Decided last night to jump right into start screen changes and get used to them. Turned on 3rd column of tiles and got a background. Really enjoying it so far, but there are a few apps I wish were transparent.
There's an app now that makes certain apps transparent, WPCentral is raving all over it. (Sometimes I don't get what's so great about some of their favorite apps, but nonetheless...)

Anyone know if they finally fixed the issue with Spartan Ops being cross buy PC->Phone but not the other way around?

Already have it and used it :)

Still a few they cannot make transparent like Skype. If Skype and Weather Channel were transparent, I'd be very happy. I might switch weather apps if there is a transparent one. Weather Channel app looks neat, but is so inaccurate in the past few months.

Rabbids Big Bang is the red stripe deal this week for the price of .....free.

It's a good game, but the controls suck. Even with the black hole there are a handful of levels I cannot finish because of poor touch-detection.

Also, for people who care. This game has a bunch of like 3 point, 8 point, etc. achievements, I know that having a number that is not 5 or 0 at the end of a gamerscore can bug some people so figured I'd point that out.

It's the first one I can think of, certainly, but there could be some little puzzle game or something that does the same thing. Cloud Raiders will also be cross-platform but I don't think it will have a regular PC version like King's Bounty.

Never encourage negative eccentricity. Just let them deal with it IMO.

Seems like anyone that doesn't have WP8+ is completely left behind now and I'm not even sure they are willing to support WP8 with enough good games to make the platform viable for the long term.  But since I like getting achievements, does anyone have any advice on where I could pick up a WP8 device that will run all the current games for a decent price?  I'm not looking to use it as a phone, would only use WiFi for games/email/twitter, etc.  I know there is a ram requirement for some of the games so I guess that would cut out some of my options.

The Lumia 520 can be had for $50 or less. It won't play everything as it doesn't have 1 GB ram, but it'll play almost everything else.

Might have to check ebay for one if I can score one for around that price. How many games need 1gb? Which phone with 1gb ram can be had on the cheap?

I'd say about half or a third of the Xbox WP8 games need 1 GB of RAM. A few WP7 games need 1 GB when running on WP8 also. Many non-Xbox WP8 games need it, especially anything developed with Unity.

The best time to buy would have been when the refurbished Lumia 925 (which has 1 GB of RAM) was on sale at AT&T for $80 over the weekend. You might hold out for a similar special to pop up again if compatibility is important.

It was $80 for just the phone or did you have to get a contract too? I have a old HTC Trophy that I just use on WiFi for gaming/email/twitter/etc. Just looking to do the same thing with a WP8 device.

Okay, my old HTC Surround is in its death throes, and I am looking for another Win Phone 7. I'll be playing a game for a few minutes, then the phone just shuts off, and often vibrates seven times. This seems to indicate an internal problem with the phone. (I'm getting a replacement battery, but I don't think it'll help.) :(

I don't actually need it, but I have a few WP7-only games I'd like to play, so I'm hoping to find a cheap replacement WP7. I don't ever plan on activating it with a carrier. Any suggestions? Used or new doesn't matter to me. I just don't want to spend very much.

(Honestly, I don't really want to get a replacement, but it'll bug me to no end if I can't finish the game I've started.)

I picked up an HTC 7 Arrive (Model HTC T7575) pretty cheap about a year ago. A quick check on ebay for used but working phones yields several results < $30

I'd also say grab the 925. As a 521 (basically the same as the aforementioned 520 model but with 4G capability and a lesser camera) owner, I've been denied a few of the recent sales/free games (FIFA 14, SIMS freeplay, NBA Jam) because of the RAM requirements. There's a good amount of games that I'm unable to play until June when I upgrade to 925. That it, unless T-Mobile gets a more updated Lumia by then.

I have a 521 as well and I am pretty sure it runs NBA Jam.....I think...maybe!

Just how many Xbox-enabled games are supposed to be free right now? I noticed last night that Let's Golf 2 is free, so I downloaded that. And then when I got a notification about the Rabbids game, I checked the store and saw that Asphalt 7 Heat, Assassin's Creed, Brain Challenge, Earthworm Jim, Order & Chaos, and Shark Dash are all free as well. I don't recall seeing any of these being offered for free when I was downloading games last week.

I think Wordament might've been the first. It's not a Facebook game, but it's on WP, iOS, Android, and PC. There was a browser version, but I'm not sure if it's available anymore. The different versions all give you different achievements, but as far as i know, you still play against people on different platforms.

That is so odd to me. I don't understand the anal retentiveness of some people, and this is coming from someone with mild OCD.

It was off-contract. Shame the deal ended so quickly.
Well, it wasn't an intentional deal; they made a mistake when pricing the L925 as well as a few Samsung phones. And according to everyone on Reddit, the phones came pre-activated and people had to call customer service to cancel the service so they wouldn't incur monthly fees.

Nokia gives away free Gameloft games to certain Lumia owners

Ah, I see! I'm not sure how I missed them for so long, but I'm glad I came across them. I kinda feel bad that they're not available to everyone, though.
Yeah, it's kind of a bummer seeing games given away and not being able to get them with a Windows Phone :( I understand why Nokia phones do get the promos though.

Pretty good, though I'd go for it if it was a 1520. I'm on a 920 right now, the big selling point would have been the camera...

Is a Lumia 521 worth buying at this point? Because my phone sucks
For $60, why not? I did well with it for three months, then upgraded to a 920. Depends on how much you have to work with, Nokias can be had for decent prices on ebay.

I'd say do what I did, use the 520 for a while, then see if you wanna move up. The biggest thing I didn't like about it was the lack of flash and a front facing camera, but if you don't care about that then go for it.

I believe somebody posted earlier that there are also a decent sized chunk of games that 521 cannot play.

Bejeweled Live seems to be the deal this week on WP for $1.99. It's likely the same game will also be on sale for Win8, but the price remains unchanged thus far.

Can someone on 8.1 tell me how the Calendar is? I discovered this morning that on WP8, the calendar removes any entries that are more than two weeks old, which is a bit ridiculous to me. When I need to refer to older events, I don't want to have to get on the computer or boot up my old phone. I tried a few different apps, but it seems like they can't display older calendar entries either (which is too bad because I've found that I really like Simple Calendar). So...has this been fixed for 8.1? Or is there some kind of workaround that I haven't been able to find? I haven't found any solutions on WPCentral, Microsoft Answers, Reddit, or Google.

Between this and my new inability to subscribe to (or unsubscribe from) podcasts has me really frustrated with WP8.

EDIT: I went ahead and updated to 8.1, which didn't fix the issue, but at least the calendar app is much nicer. And I can subscribe to podcasts again, although Talk Nerdy with Cara Santa Maria doesn't seem to be available anymore for some reason. I'll have to look into this a bit more.

If anyone plays Kingdoms and Lords, my game glitched and now I have 97 million diamonds (the premium currency) which I can turn into endless gold and I'm down to buy your resources at extremely high prices to get you some gold. Let me know if you'd like some.

LOL! Congrats. I finished the game myself and have 5+ million gold so money is not an object. I wish mine glitched the same way so I can play around with some of the special units that can only be bought with diamonds. I am jealous. :)

I just breezed through the rest of the campaign lol wish I could trade diamonds to others. It'd cut the length of the game dramatically.

I've been playing Zombie Tsunami for a few weeks, but now I'm at the grindy parts and have no motivation to finish it without achievements.

Can you describe how it gets overly grindy? I haven't played it. And would a reasonable purchase have been enough to get over the hump and enjoy it normally?

I wrote out something long, pressed backspace, and browser went back a page.

Long story kind of short, the game is a really fun endless runner where you play as a zombie and eat people. As you eat people, your horde gets bigger. You lose when all your zombies die. There are missions like other endless runners. I hit a series of missions that require a large amount of coins. I'd have to play at least 300 more good runs just for 1 of those missions. I've already played a ton of the game that I'm starting to get sick of it. If it had achievements, I'd grind it out. There are mission skips you can buy (expensive, but more than x5 cheaper than not using them), but that feels a little bit like cheating. I might do it anyways.

It is a good game and I don't want to scare people away from it. Be prepared for a grind.

I downloaded Picnic Rumble today. I think it's a new game. Simple gameplay, yet so hard. Lots of fast thinking pretty early. I'm on the 2nd boss. It is free for a limited time.

Wordament sequel tomorrow. Achievement list for W8 version is out. Probably same list for Windows Phone. Looks easier 200/200 than the first game.

EDIT: Anybody having trouble syncing Yahoo email in 8.1? Started having problems with it yesterday.

Royal Revolt 2 coming to WP8 and Windows 8 on May 15

Wouldn't hurt to discuss non-Xbox games every now and then, boys. The people in the Android and iOS deal threads seem to enjoy their games even though they're not Xbox-enabled. :p
Honestly, I play non-Xbox games far more than the Xbox ones. There's so much more variety and many of the developers actually care enough to provide useful troubleshooting and release regular updates.

EDIT: Anybody having trouble syncing Yahoo email in 8.1? Started having problems with it yesterday.
No issues here. I just checked and it's working as expected.

Another new Win8 game: Microsoft Treasure Hunt. It's......wait for it......adventure mode from Minesweeper. No idea why they would invest time and resources into doing this!!

Also, I've heard the new Wordament game is coming out on WP as well. Hope that's true.

I really liked adventure mode and I'm glad they separated it. More achievements :) Looks like they added in a few features too. I hope it comes to WP.

Hopefully that and new Wordament will be available in US soon

New Kinectimals game (Free)

The first game still cannot find my location. This one looks similar from what I've played, but with dogs and micro-transactions.

New Wordament is pretty fun. I probably wouldn't buy it, but for free it is great.

Downloaded a couple of interesting not XBL games, but haven't gotten around to playing them yet.

EDIT: Also some people are getting Bing Rewards points from mobile searches on WP. I noticed a Bing Rewards settings in Cortana settings when 8.1 came out. Glad to see it finally working for some people (not me). It adds another 10 points daily, which is really nice. About 25 points a day if you use all searches. 290 for $3 Microsoft Credit.

Unless my math is horribly off (which it usually is), that is over $100 (about $9 per month) a year from Bing Rewards alone.
