wireless adapter

The Xbox wireless adapter is a Ethernet-to-wireless bridge, which is also known as a wireless game adapter to vendors like DLink, Linksys or Netgear. Plug it into the Ethernet connector on the back of the Xbox and it's on a wireless network. Works on 802.11B & G if memory serves right.

The Xbox 360 wireless adapter is a USB 2.0 wireless adapter that works on 802.11A, B or G. It's an actual wireless network card, connected via USB 2.0.
Any noticeable difference in speed? Pros/cons of using the bridge versus the USB adapter?
Thanks Shrike, I was wondering the same thing as well

It doesn't really matter, since the real limiting factor for online gaming is how fast your connection to the Internet is.

Ethernet maxes out at 100Mbps, USB 2.0 has a maximum (theoretical) of 480Mbps, and in any case, more 802.11G LANs max out at 20-25Mbps throughput.

Honestly, it shouldn't matter, though the MS 360 adapter is $100, there's a third party one that is B/G only that I've seen at BB for $80 (from Datel), and the wireless B/G adapters from Linksys, DLink and Netgear all end up being somewhere around $60-80+. The MS Xbox adapter is $99, though you can find it cheaper around the Internet. EB & GS had them used for $20 a while back I think, though I don't think they're around anymore, and I think it was B&M only.

IMHO, as long as you have a 802.11G network, you should be OK with any of the options.
I've asked this before but it seems be be a thread killer. Can I use any adapter? For example: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10375941&loc=101&adid=17662

thanks,

Nope, AFAIK.

The MS 360 wireless adpater works, without question, and from what they kept saying, it would be the only wireless adapter out there that works via USB.

Datel came out with this little gadget, which I don't know if it connects via USB or via Ethernet:

Someone that would find a more direct link for it, or owns it, should be able to shed more light on it.

Any of the following should work:

Just to name a few.

My roommate uses the Xbox Ethernet adapter and its never given him a problem, either on the original Xbox or his 360.

I would recommend the regular ethernet one if you want to play online with multiple systems using one adapter since the usb can only be used on the 360. I've been using my Linksys WET11 for over 3 years, which you can get for like $20-30 on ebay now. It's just an ethernet bridge, that was available before "gaming" adapters were available and does the exact same thing. It doesn't support the G and A settings, but I never notice any lag and my network runs fine.
